Chapter 16 Phoenix Apparel
At Leo's words, Bree instantly understood what was going on. Even Hugh, who had been disapproving, fell silent.
Phoenix Apparel was once the pillar of the garment industry in the country, whose history was more than a hundred years. Basically, it was the foundation of the Corbyn Family's heritage.
Back then, it was the start of the Corbyn Family's glorious history in S City.
It was where the Corbyn Family started to make a name.
Hervey's expression changed frequently.
He thought about countless possibilities but never expected Leo to ask for Phoenix Apparel.
Ever since Alex Corbyn's death, Phoenix Apparel had been on a downward spiral. After more than ten years, Phoenix Apparel was currently nothing but an empty shell. Hervey kept it running only for fear that closing it would hurt the group's reputation.
Should he give Phoenix Apparel to Leo?
Intuitively, Hervey wanted to say no.
It had taken him more than a decade to wipe out the Corbyn Group. He, of course, did not want anyone to recall it.
Leo was the only bloodline of the Corbyn Family.
If Leo got Phoenix Apparel but failed to revive it, that would be fine. However, if he managed to get the Corbyn Family back to the public's sight, the dusty past would definitely be brought up once again.
"Dad, he wants Phoenix Apparel. Why don't you just give it to him?" Unlike Hervey's scruples, Oliver nearly burst out laughing when he heard Leo's request.
Phew!
Oliver initially thought Leo would seize the chance to enter the Lewis Group. To his surprise, however, all Leo wanted was a shabby company. He certainly was willing to help his brother fulfill his wish in this case. As for the meaning of Phoenix Apparel's existence, Oliver did not care at all.
Phoenix Apparel indeed had a glorious history. However, it was currently nothing but a company on the verge of bankruptcy.
"Okay." Hervey, after careful consideration, nodded in agreement.
So what if people began to think of his deeds in the past? As long as he was the Lewis Group's chairman, no one would dare gossip about him.
"And Corbyn's Mansion," Leo added.
If Phoenix Apparel would only wield a negligible effect on Hervey in terms of reputation, the Corbyn Family mansion meant something physical.
In fact, Corbyn's Mansion was not a single house but Chinese gardens covering a vast piece of land. Given that an inch of land valued an inch of gold in S City, the mansion's price was astronomical.
However, could Harvey say no to Leo?
That was Corbyn's Mansion.
That was to say, the mansion was surnamed Corbyn.
That was something no one could change.
Hervey's facial muscles twitched. After a good while, he eventually nodded, gritting his teeth.
"Deal. Then, we'll leave Mr. Lewis in peace now." Hugh was pleased to see Hervey's distressed expression.
As soon as Leo and the others left, Oliver could not help asking, "Dad, why did you give him Corbyn's Mansion?"
"It's Corbyn's Mansion. Leo's the only grandson of Alex Corbyn. That mansion is his estate since the day he came of age." Hervey slapped the desk in anger.
"But..." Oliver was unconvinced.
"That's it. You get out!"
Harvey was unwilling to give the mansion to Leo either. However, it was different from the company that Harvey could not rename it.
At the underground parking lot...
After seeing Hugh off, Bree glanced at Leo with an inquisitive look in her eyes like a curious cat.
Leo started the car, asking, "What do you want to say?"
"You actually came here for Phoenix Apparel and Corbyn's Mansion in the first place, right?"
Bree said confidently with a "you can't fool me" expression on her face, "The shares are just an excuse. You didn't want them back, at least for the present."
Leo looked at Bree with his brows raised. He was somewhat surprised by the woman's insight and discernment.
"What has brought you to this point?"
"It's simple. If you were intent on getting your shares back, you wouldn't care what Hervey had to say."
Bree's analysis was clear and logical.
"If you did want to get back the Lewis Group, you wouldn't have acted rashly and alerted the enemy."
"If you insist on getting your shares back, Hervey is bound to be defensive of you."
"And with the shares diluted, you won't be able to take control of the Lewis Group with what you have, no matter how. You'll have to buy up the other scattered shares if you want to get it back. And once Hervey notices, you guys will be completely against each other."
"The most important thing is that once you fall out, Hervey will probably choose an extreme measure if he cannot win you."
"Hervey can destroy the Lewis Group, while you can't just stand by and watch the Corbyn Family's foundation being ruined. So, you'll have to take another route."
