Chapter 18 Feeling Like an Outsider
Leonard walked quickly ahead of Ashley, and the woman followed him strenuously.
Hearing the sound of the car outside, Leonard's grandparents knew that Leonard and Ashley were back. They immediately helped each other out of the house to greet the couple.
"Ashley, welcome." Upon seeing the young woman, the Elder Master of the Bryant Family beamed with joy and then gave a stern glance at his grandson. "Do you have to walk so fast? Can't see that Ashley has difficulty in following you up?"
Learning that Leonard was married, his grandmother was so excited that she did not fall asleep all night. Seeing Ashley, she happily and tightly held the latter's hand. "Pleased to meet you, Ashley. So glad that you've married into the Bryant Family. Come on in. I've asked the chef to prepare many delicious dishes for you."
"Grandpa and Grandma, it seems that you don't have me in your eyes anymore." Leonard was completely ignored. He sighed helplessly, entered the house, and sat on the sofa casually.
"Ashley, why don't you rest here tonight?" The Elder Lady neglected Leonard's complaint and took Ashley to sit on the sofa, saying, "Leonard's parents are abroad. Only me and his Grandpa live in the house. It's so good to have you two here."
Ashley glanced at Leonard, who was sitting across from her, but the man completely ignored her look for help. She smiled awkwardly, replying, "Grandma, I have work to do tomorrow, so I won't live here tonight. But I promise you I will visit you soon when I'm free."
After thinking for a while, the Elder Lady said, "It's okay to stay over. There are new clothes for you in the house. Leonard will take you to the workplace tomorrow morning. You won't be late."
"Grandma..." Ashley was interrupted before her words were finished.
"You'll stay tonight." The Elder Lady said in a dominant tone.
Given no other choice, Ashley had to nod in agreement. However, thinking about the business trip the next day, she got a headache as she had not packed her luggage.
"Leonard, you will take Ashley to work tomorrow." The Elder Lady turned to look at Leonard." Both your grandfather and I like Ashley very much. You cannot let her down."
Sitting on the sofa, Leonard was drinking tea. At his grandmother's words, he shook his head helplessly. "Grandma, now you and Grandpa got a granddaughter-in-law in the house, you don't care about me anymore, do you?"
"Over the years, your grandfather and I are wrecked by anxiety because of your marriage. Finally, you married such a pretty woman. Do whatever you want to do. We don't bother to care anymore." The Elder Lady glanced at Leonard.
"I have one request, though. You have married Ashley, and you must be responsible for her." The Elder Master added, "If you fool around outside, I will confiscate all your rights in the company."
Leonard nodded. "I'm fine even if you forget me completely. Feel free to spoil your granddaughter-in-law."
Ashley looked a little awkward. After all, she and Leonard were not very familiar yet, and there were lots of misunderstandings between them.
"From now on, your grandfather and I will spoil Ashley unconditionally." The Elder Lady said with a sincere expression on her face.
"Exactly." The Elder Master echoed his wife.
"Ashley, this is the wedding gift from Grandma." The Elder Lady took off a jade bracelet from her hand. "This bracelet has been with me for decades and is the heirloom of the Bryant Family. Now, I'm giving it to you. Hope that you can continue to pass it on."
"Thank you, Grandma. But it's too expensive. I can't accept it." Ashley hurried to refuse as she knew the bracelet must be incredibly expensive at first glance.
"Just take it, kid. It represents your grandmother's best wishes. If you don't accept it, she will feel upset," The Elder Master said with a smile, "It's the Bryant Family's blessing that Leonard married you. Sorry that you have to suffer a grievance as the wedding is delayed."
"But the wedding must be held someday. And it has to be a grand one." The Elder Lady held Ashley's hand tightly. "You're our only granddaughter-in-law, and we'll give you the best in the world."
At his grandparents' passionate attitude towards Ashley and their smiles, Leonard thought inwardly, "Well, it seems that marrying Ashley was the right decision. It at least pleases Grandpa and Grandma successfully."
"The wedding is not in a hurry. We can deal with it later," Ashley said with a smile. After all, her marriage with Leonard was currently unstable. They may divorce at any time. Therefore, it would be better to keep it a low profile for the time being.
"Of course it is in a hurry," The elder lady said anxiously, "For every girl, the wedding is a significant matter in their life. You have suffered a grievance in marrying Leonard. We definitely will not let you suffer another grievance in terms of the wedding. You don't have to worry about the wedding details. Leave it all to me. I'll invite the best wedding company in the world to prepare a dreamy ceremony for you so that you'll obtain the best memories in your life."
"Grandma, I know you care about me." Ashley stared at the older woman with a sincere look in her eyes, "But I don't think now is the best time to hold the wedding. I mean, it's too sudden, and we haven't prepared ourselves well psychologically. Also, if my parents get to know that I've got married right after graduation, I'm afraid they will be too shocked to accept it."
The Elder Lady gave a glance at the Elder Master and saw him nodding. Then, she also nodded in agreement. "Okay, then. I won't push you too hard. But when you decide to throw the wedding in the future, you must let me know immediately. I will make it the most luxurious wedding in the world."
"Okay, thank you, Grandma." Ashley smiled.
At this moment, the butler came over to notify them that the dishes were ready and invited them to go to the dining room.
"Let's have dinner." The Elder Lady reached out to grab Ashley's hand. "I hope you'll enjoy the dishes."
Ashley nodded and walked towards the dining room with one hand held by the elder woman.
The Elder Master followed them up closely.
Being ignored completely, Leonard let out a helpless sigh, got up from the sofa, and walked towards the dining room.
At the table, the Elder Lady and the Elder Master kept serving Ashley with dishes, and no one paid any attention to Leonard. He sat there alone, looking at the other three chatting and laughing, and involuntarily felt a little strange inside.
"Why am I feeling like an outsider?" Leonard sighed.
