Chapter 7 Releasing Wolf

"Wolf! It's a wolf!"

Greatly frightened, Mrs. Reed and others dropped their flashlights before fleeing in all directions.

Elsa, the poor lady from a wealthy family, had never expected such close contact with a wolf. Deep down, she wanted to scream and run for her life. The reality, however, was that she didn't dare to move a bit.

Her eyes and mouth agape, she couldn't utter any sound and shuddered vigorously. Overcome with unprecedented fear, she rolled her eyes and tilted her head in a swoon.

"Gray, come back."

Standing by the side, Lora was satisfied with the terrifying scene. After appreciating it for a while, she calmly beckoned to the wolf.

Gray immediately let go of Elsa in seeming disgust and walked obediently towards Lora. Crooking its hind legs, it squatted beside her like a faithful guard.

Gray was raised by Lora and released to the wilderness when it grew up. In her previous life, the pharmacy caught fire, and Gray rushed in for the rescue. Unfortunately, the wolf and her grandmother both perished in flames.

With a bamboo whistle, Lora just summoned Gray and hadn't got the chance to get close to it.

At that moment, she squatted down, hugged Gray, and affectionately rubbed her forehead against its fur.

"Gray, I miss you so much." She slightly choked with sobs.

Unsure of the reason for its owner's grief, it believed that she was bullied. Frantically, it bared its fangs and howled around, causing another round of screams.

After quite a while, the villagers calmed down. After the ban on guns, there were occasional traces of wild animals in the deep mountains. Those villagers were bolder than people from the cities and knew Gray.

"Fear not, that wolf, raised by Lora, will not randomly hurt people!"

The village chief reassured Mrs. Reed and others for quite a while before they came to their senses. Limply, they rolled to the villagers.

Mrs. Reed slumped to the floor with a pale face. With scruples and fear, she stared at Lora and Gray for quite some time before speaking with a quiver in her voice.

"Lora... Miss, could... could you send the wolf away?"

Lora looked at Mrs. Reed when a flicker of ridicule flashed across her eyes.

See? People all bullied the weak and feared the strong. Just now, she called her by her name and now called her Miss.

She hadn't had enough fun yet and wanted to threaten them with the wolf. Only if she kept Gray there, people might accuse her of deliberately releasing the wolf to cause trouble.

Besides, she couldn't take Gray with her to North City. If Gray's presence scared the villagers, they might hunt it down after she left.

Lora stroked its head, "Go."

But Gray didn't move and even looked around vigilantly as if it feared its owner would be bullied after it left.

Lora felt a stream of warmth in her heart and patted it again reassuringly, "It's okay."

Gray raised its head to give a long howl and then dashed into the already faintly lit mountain forest.

After Gray ran far away, Mrs. Reed crawled to Elsa and cried, "Miss, you should be alright. If anything happens to you, how could I explain to mister and madam."

Lora kindly squatted down, picked up Elsa, and patted her hard on the cheeks.

"Elsa, wake up! If any misfortune happens to you, I won't have the nerves to go back home!"

She cried more sincerely than Mrs. Reed. The latter choked from her howling and gaped at Lora.

Until Elsa's pale face was patted red, Lora asked in a state of utter stupefaction, "Mrs. Reed, I am young and ignorant. Should we pinch her philtrum in this case?"

Reminded by her, Mrs. Reed really came to pinch Elsa.

Lora spoke kindly, "We should wake Elsa as soon as possible. If she remains unconscious, would she die from shock?"

Mrs. Reed was worried for the girl that she brought up. If something really happened to her, she would find it hard to explain. Reminded by Lora, she pinched her hard.

At the sight of Mrs. Reed's pale face and Elsa's bloody philtrum, Lora was humane enough to stop talking.
