Chapter 8 Broken in Body, Firm in Spirit
Elsa slowly woke up and howled as soon as she opened her eyes.
"Ah! Wolf!"
Mrs. Reed soothed her for quite some time before Elsa calmed down.
Leaning on Mrs. Reed's bosom, she looked at Lora with red eyes, "Lora, I was so worried that you didn't come back. I came to search for you during the night. How could you release the wolf to bite me? Do you hate me?"
Elsa looked aggrieved and sad. Equally frightened, the servants from the Wood family began to blame Lora.
"Miss fell during the trip uphill."
"You went too far to release the wolf!"
"How could a girl stay outside during the night? It's shameful."
The villagers took Elsa's red envelopes and followed them to gesticulate.
"Lora, this is your fault. Your sister really cares about you."
"Yeah, she's a young lady growing up in the city and suffered so much tonight. Look at her pale face!"
Lora lowered her head and curled up her lips. Elsa's bitchy look didn't change at all.
It was easy to be more lovely than Elsa, and it was easier to be bitchier than her.
In a fluster, Lora raised her head, "I released the wolf to bite you? Gray could rip off the neck of a boar with one bite. Do you think your skin is thicker?"
Lora's gaze landed on Elsa's neck, meaning if she really released the wolf to bite her, her neck should have been broken.
Elsa felt a chill down her neck, and her face turned paler. When Lora compared her to a boar, some villagers laughed out. Hearing that, she blushed and couldn't speak with her trembling lips.
Lora looked aggrieved, "If I didn't stop Gray in time, it would bite. Shouldn't you thank me? I thought people from North City were all polite..."
Elsa almost choked and gnashed her teeth after quite a while, "I was wrong to blame you. Thank you, Lora."
Elsa hated her to the core. She not only lost face but felt pain all over. Her shoulders were scratched by wolf claws, and she wondered if scars would be left.
How would she let this pass so easily?
She pulled herself together and grabbed Mrs. Reed's hand, "Mrs. Reed, I feel sick and got a fever. Help me to go inside and rest for a while..."
Elsa struggled to get up and wink at Mrs. Reed. The latter immediately helped her to walk towards the hut.
Although the wolf raised by Lora was unexpected, the wild man should still be in bed. As long as he was found, her effort tonight would not be for nothing.
Despite their limp legs, they supported each other to walk into the hut. They were broken in body but firm in spirit, which almost moved Lora emotionally.
She turned to catch up and stop them, "Elsa, you have a fever? We should go down the mountain. I'll decoct herbs for you."
As she stopped them, Elsa felt her legs no longer weak and strode to the bed.
As expected, the quilt spread out and bulged. Someone seemed to be lying there. Elsa shook off Lora's hand, "I can't hold on anymore and should lie down for a while..."
She lifted the quilt, snatched the flashlight from Mrs. Reed's hand, cast light over, turned her head, and shouted to everyone excitedly.
"Oh my, guys, look. Why is there a person hiding on Lora's bed..."
Elsa finished shouting but didn't find any surprise or contempt on their faces. She realized that something went wrong.
"Elsa, what person? What are you talking about?"
Elsa turned back abruptly and found no one on the bed. There was another quilt under the lifted one. Nothing else was there.
How could it be?
Lora was hiding a man!
"Elsa, are you alright? Are you scared out of your wits and talking nonsense?"
Elsa looked at Lora who showed distinct sarcasm. Lora's gaze at her resembled that when she saw a neuropath. Angered by that, Elsa rolled her eyes and wobbled.
"Miss, are you alright?"
Mrs. Reed hastened to support Elsa. Unable to vent her anger, she pushed Mrs. Reed away.
"Go away, worthless thing!"
It was Mrs. Reed who told her that Lora was hiding a man. Now the man was gone. Mrs. Reed was such a loser!
