Chapter 12 A Perfect Back Burner

A wallet slid a short distance on the table. Benjamin said in a disdainful tone, "Take as much as you need!"

Nelly was always frank with her love for money. Besides, she was asking for her own money, so she had no psychological burden at all.

After drawing out six 100-yuan notes, she was about to close the wallet. Just then, she spotted a corner sticking out of it. She looked down and saw a picture, at the bottom of which was a pretty line of words: On Feb. 14, went to Tokyo Tower with Benjamin.

"Kay, if you know your beloved Benjamin is holding another woman intimately, would you jump out of the hospital bed for jealousy?"

Somehow, she felt a little sad. But still, she maintained a calm look as she returned the wallet. Waving the notes, she smiled. "Thanks..."

Just then, a loud voice sounded...

"Faye! Faye! I want to see you!"

"Sir! This is our boss's office! You can't go in... Ah! How could you push me?" Jessie's cry came from the door.

Then, five people gathered: Faye with a pale face and trembling lips, a young man claiming himself as Faye's fiancé, Benjamin narrowing his sharp eyes, Jessie on the ground, and Nelly watching all of these with interest.

If anyone was to blame, it was Benjamin. If he had locked the door during estrus, Faye's future husband wouldn't have broken in so easily.

Nelly stepped back to a relatively safe corner lest she be involved and hurt in this dispute.

"Why are you here?" Heedless of her improperly dressing, Faye bounced up from Benjamin's arms in a shock.

Hearing her question, the young man blushed with anger. "Faye! Didn't you promise me that you wouldn't have an affair with your boss again? We've engaged! And I'm willing to forgive you for the things you did before. Why do you..."

"Shut up! Stop saying that!" Faye shouted.

"Why not?" The young man strode up to her and pointed at Benjamin. Savagely, he said, "Because of him, you cheated on me. When I found it, you wanted to split up with me! No matter how I begged you, you didn't look back at me. But then, you told me you changed your mind and only loved me all this life. So I proposed to you with joy and thought we would have a happy life together. But then? Then I came specially to see you today and your colleague told me you were in your boss's office. I even cheated myself that you were talking about work with him, but... Hoho... Faye, you betrayed my trust!"

The young man, Faye, and Benjamin were confronting one another coldly. Faye had a look at Benjamin, who didn't take the farce seriously, and felt slightly relieved.

Wasn't he angry? Didn't he want to drive her away?

Oh, she understood! He was testing her at this critical moment to see who she would choose between her fiancé and him.

Eyes closed, she exhaled deeply. When she reopened her eyes, she became rather resolute in front of her furious fiancé. "Now that you've seen this today, I don't want to deceive you anymore. Yes, I indeed have an affair with Mr. Longman and I'm really happy with him. By then, I'd been his woman. I knew you were a traditional man and couldn't accept the fact, so I broke up with you."

"Then why were you back with me? We've even engaged..."

The young man felt like crying for getting no sound explanation after being cuckolded. Nelly felt very sorry for him.

Faye looked at him, her voice pitiful and innocent. "Have you forgotten? After the breakup, you begged me to stay for a long time. Do you know how water wears away a stone? For a moment, your gentleness and patience softened my heart, so... I'm sorry. I was too muddled to reject a warm hug. I didn't mean to hurt you again today... Let's break up. You're a good man and you deserve a better woman."

Tears ran down her face. But were her words all true?

Certainly not. The fact was that, soon after she dumped her boyfriend, Benjamin gave her a check as compensation for ending their relationship.

Therefore, she returned to her boyfriend's arms. After all, this man who loved her wholeheartedly was a perfect back burner.
