Chapter 5 Make a Coffee for Him
Nelly was unfortunately hospitalized.
Soaked by the rain, chilled by the wind, and knocked by Benjamin, she had no reason not to faint.
During her hospitalization, Benjamin had visited her twice.
In his first visit, she was still in a coma, so he couldn't say a word to her.
In his second visit, she was awake. But on seeing him, she pretended to be sleeping. The attending doctor kept him out for the reason that "the patient needs more rest".
Benjamin could tolerate it at first. After all, it was he who had caused her to be injured and put on a drip for two days.
But later, she was still indifferent to his "apology". Eventually, he exploded with rage — he threw the flowers into the dustbin outside the ward and left in a huff.
He didn't believe she could keep going like this.
Indeed, she couldn't.
The Longman Group.
"Nelly, where have you been these days? Much work can't start without you!"
The department manager was a bald married man with a large beer belly in his 40s. His favorite thing was to sweet-talk her every day.
As soon as she arrived at the company, he hurried to her side immediately.
Knowing what kind of man Jack Ward was, she didn't show any surprise. "Mr. Ward, I went to visit my relatives in another city these days. I'm sorry to be back late."
Actually, she felt quite disapproving of his words that much work couldn't start without her.
That was because she never had the chance to participate in any large event in the department.
While Jack wanted to say something more, Jessie Ward, Benjamin's secretary, walked over and informed that the boss had something urgent to tell Nelly.
Nelly was surprised.
Benjamin had never had any contact with her in the company.
She had married him without the bride price or wedding party, so their relationship had been unknown to the public. In others' eyes, he was still an eligible bachelor waiting for his first love to wake up.
By comparison, Nelly was only one of the ordinary employees of the Longman Group. No one would associate her with the superior boss.
At this moment, all the gazes were on Nelly as she followed Jessie to the office. It was as if they were watching her go to the guillotine.
The door was slightly ajar. When Nelly walked in, he was sitting on an office chair, with his back to her. She couldn't see his expression.
Then, she heard him say, "Come here."
She obeyed. From her angle, she could see his sharp eyebrows, prominent nose, and thin lips that were said to be a characteristic of a fickle and heartless man. She was not sure whether the law was suitable for all, but at least, Benjamin was a perfect example.
"What can I help you, Mr. Longman?"
This was in the company, after all. Now that she was his employee, she had to be polite to him.
"Make a coffee for me."
He didn't look at her. Through the French window, he was appreciating the blue sky, soft clouds, pretty flowers, tall trees, and the distinctive high-rise buildings outside with interest.
After a moment of silence, Nelly asked, "So this is your urgent thing to tell me?"
"It seems you're reluctant?" He finally turned to her and said in an arrogant tone, "I'm the pillar here. If I collapse out of fatigue, the company will face the crisis of bankruptcy, and you will join the ranks of the jobless. Isn't it something urgent?"
"I see..." She curled her lips as she replied, "What a trivial thing! It seems the company doesn't have enough employees."
His brow raised, he asked in a threatening tone, "What did you say?"
Receiving his cold stare, she smiled seemingly obediently. "Nothing. I'm off to make the coffee now."
When she turned around and touched the doorknob, he said with a frown, "I have a coffee machine here. Who let you go out?"
With a polite smile, she asked cooperatively, "Where is it then? I'll get it."
"How can you get it if you're so far away from me?" He cocked a brow meaningfully.
Could the coffee machine be hiding under his desk? With a glance at this domineering man, she hesitated and slowly moved to his side. While she was looking for the machine, a big hand gripped her wrist and gave her a hard pull!
