Chapter 22 He Deserves Better

All of the eyes were glued to her.

Zoey's movements were so fast that Charlie saw the big crab was broken down in seconds.

There were two plates before Zoey, one of which contained the crab meat. On another one was the crab shell arranged as the original look.

The crowd marveled at Zoey's eye-opening performance, which made the utensils ostentatious and superfluous.

Putting the crab meat in front of Mrs. Kingsley, Zoey asked, "Grandma, how is my performance?"

"Impressive!" Mrs. Kingsley replied.

Subsequently, under Zoey's guidance, Charlie clumsily shelled the crab with his hands instead of the utensils. The guests around them bitterly witnessed their public displays of affection.

...

The party lasted until 10 p.m. After sending off the last guest, Zoey followed Charlie back to his room.

It was the first time that Zoey came into his room. She sat on the sofa by the window. Seeing that Zoey was a bit sad, Charlie walked over and held her hand.

"If you don't like the party, you don't have to attend it. In fact, I don't like it either." Charlie said.

"It's a fact that I do not deserve you," Zoey said in frustration.

The people she met and the things she experienced today upset her.

Charlie had her sit on his lap. As Zoey nestled in his chest, he felt worried.

"Silly." He kissed the top of her head and said.

"What did you do to Don?" Zoey asked.

"I lock him up. What do you want to do with him? Kill him?"

Zoey stood up at once and looked at Charlie, saying nervously, "It's illegal!"

Charlie laughed and said, "It is easy for the Kingsley Family to make a man vanish in the world. If you want, I'll make that man evaporate right now."

Staring at Charlie's profound eyes, Zoey reached out to touch his handsome face.

No wonder why so many people strove to gain power by hook or by crook.

"No need to kill him. Just shut him up." Zoey was unwilling to violate the law.

"Okay."

Zoey sat back in his arms. As she looked at the bright moon in the sky through the floor-to-ceiling window, she felt her eyelids heavier and then fell asleep.

She woke up in an unfamiliar room. It was not Charlie's bedroom but the guest room next to Charlie's.

In the large, darksome room, she could hear her heart thumping. She jumped out of bed and ran to Charlie's room.

His room was not locked.

She walked in barefoot and saw the man lying asleep on the bed, her heartbeat slowing down.

She lifted the quilt, slid into it, and hugged Charlie, who woke up immediately.

Feeling the familiar body scent and temperature, Charlie knew it was Zoey without turning on the light.

"It's so late. Why are you awake?" As Charlie had just woken up, his voice was somewhat hoarse.

"There's a ghost in my room."

Charlie was speechless.

"You cannot get me back to my room. The ghost will take me away."

The reason was too lame to be believed.

"Charlie, let me sing you a love song. In my hometown, it is a custom to sing a love song for someone who you like. And I have yet to sing one to you."

Charlie was wide awake now.

He nodded.

"The forsythia is round, the watercress fresh.

Pick up one and put it before the mouth.

A refreshing fragrance floods the nose.

Waves of thoughts surge in the heart.

The watercress is long, the forsythia fragrant.

The big and small baskets are full of them.

But my lover's heart is as deep as the sea.

When can I fill it with my love?"

As Zoey's crisp voice sounded in his ears, Charlie could feel her breathing. His body temperature began to rise, his breathing heavy.

He was a bit aroused, only to find Zoey fell asleep.

Charlie held Zoey gently in his arms, placed her against his chest, and patted her as if she was a child.

He enjoyed the posture in which he could hug the girl and fall into a dream with her.
