Chapter 20 Will You Dislike Me?
"Charlie, will you dislike me?"
As she told Charlie her unpleasant past, she felt painful, as if she was taking off her own clothes in public.
"I know." Charlie held her tightly and whispered.
"How do you know that?" Zoey asked in surprise.
"Before meeting you at the cafe, I investigated you. So I am clear about your past. At first, I thought that you agreed to marry me for some ulterior purpose, but now... Zoey, I like you. How can I hate a good girl like you? "
She stared at him, tears streaming down her cheek, blurring her sight of Charlie. "Charlie, what should we do now? If Olivia discloses my past, it will bring a disgrace on you."
Charlie snorted with laughter. "I had experienced that when Caroline dumped me after I was disabled.
Besides, I don't think you're a disgrace. You're brave, kind, and responsible. Zoey, I start to like you. Whenever I think about your past hardships, I feel a pain here."
With one hand placed on his heart and the gaze filled with compassion, Charlie soothed her. "Don't worry. I'll handle that."
"Okay!" She nodded and looked at Charlie with an expression of trust.
Charlie called Edward in and asked him to deal with Don. And then he called Anthony and asked him to take Olivia away.
...
In the banquet hall.
When Charlie brought Zoey in, the food had been started to serve.
They were seated with Mrs. Kingsley and elders from other powerful families, including Emily Roland, Olivia's grandmother.
Emily was about the same age as Mrs. Kingley, but unlike the latter, she was bony with high cheekbones and sharp eyes, looking unapproachable.
"Charlie, you are literally unreasonable. What did my granddaughter do? How could you evict her for no reason? Why don't you kick me out as well?"
Before anyone else spoke, Emily asked with indignation, her harsh gaze fixed on Zoey.
Feeling the embarrassing atmosphere, Mrs. Lewis laughed. "You misunderstood. I just heard it was because of something urgent that Olivia had to leave early.
Charlie, start your meal with your wife. There are crabs that you love today."
"Thank you, Mrs. Lewis," Charlie said.
"No need to be so polite." Mrs. Lewis started to greet Zoey, who was sitting next to Charlie and on her left side.
"This is Zoey, Charlie's wife and saver. If it weren't for Zoey, Charlie would have been dead.
I am delighted with her. Tomorrow I'll take Zoey to the shrine of the Kingsley Family. From then on, she will be Charlie's wife recognized by our ancestors!"
It was the second time that Mrs. Kingsley had seriously introduced Zoey in public.
She wanted to tell the guests that Zoey was Charlie's wife recognized by the Kingsley Family rather than a humble woman who desired to take advantage of her beauty to marry a powerful family.
Holding Zoey's hand, Charlie looked around and added, "She is part of the Kingsley Family as well as my woman. If someone dares to offend her, I will make you pay a heavy price.
The Kingsley's Family will make you in trouble!"
Her eyes watery, Zoey stared at Charlie, held his hand firmly, and thanked him in her heart.
If not for Charlie, she would have suffered from enormous humiliation.
Charlie smiled and comforted her.
Seeing Mrs. Kingsley and Charlie, the Kingsley Family's most powerful people, were so protective of Zoey, the guests no longer dared to display their contempt.
