Chapter 19 Occupying Your Heart

"I wonder why she left me without a single word. Maybe it was because she worried that I, a cripple, would shamelessly pester her. We've been together for so many years. I cannot believe that she thought of me like that!"

"Don't call yourself a cripple!"

"Fool," Charlie said softly.

"If I were not a fool, how could I be willing to endure frustration for you every day?"

"You are the one who does and will accompany me. I don't want to hurt your heart."

Zoey remained sad. Love made her selfish and greedy. Possessive about Charlie, she did not want him to keep another woman in his mind.

Her eyes fell on his neck, around which there was a black thread. She stepped forward, stretched out her finger, and pulled it slightly. It should be the vajra that Olivia talked about.

"Can you give me the vajra?" Zoey stared at Charlie and asked tentatively.

Charlie looked at her with doubt and asked, "Did someone tell you something?"

"I saw Olivia, and she told me that it was a gift from Caroline. Is it true?"

"Yes," Charlie admitted it.

Zoey pursed her lips and continued, "Now that you've broken up, why are you still wearing this?"

"I'm used to wearing it."

"Charlie, I don't want you to wear it. Can you give it to me?" Zoey fathomed Charlie's bottom line bit by bit. She became so greedy that she desired to possess the whole of him, both physically and mentally.

"What if I refuse?" Charlie tilted his head to look at her with a smile on his lips.

"I'll snatch it or steal it when you fall asleep and throw it far away," Zoey replied mischievously.

"Sometimes, you act like a child." Charlie gently shook his head, took off the vajra from his neck, and put it in her hand.

"Well, are you happy now?" Charlie asked.

Zoey had not expected that Charlie would agree to her request. She stared at him in surprise, and the corners of her lips were lifted. She leaned over and hugged Charlie.

"Thank you, Charlie!"

"Thank me for what?"

"Thank you for starting to accept me." From the fact that he gave her the vajra from Caroline, Zoey understood that Charlie was sincerely trying to love her.

"Fool." He kissed the hair on the top of her head and asked worriedly, "You didn't look right just now. Did someone bully you?"

Zoey hugged Charlie tightly, recalling her humiliating past.

Among many jobs that she had before, the hostess was the only one that made her ashamed.

Being a hostess was a desperate decision. At that time, Amelia Carter, her sister, suffered from a severe illness. But her father went abroad. Her stepmother kicked her out when she went to ask for help. And her mother could do nothing but cry. When she was helpless, she passed a nightclub and saw a job posting at the door. She had no option but to apply for it.

Her job was to drink with others in low-cut dresses. Whenever she was almost drunk, she would stab her thighs with a pointed ring.

Feeling that his chest was wet, Charlie looked down and saw Zoey's tears. His heart suddenly tightened. "Why do you cry? Shouldn't you be happy that I give you the vajra?"

"Charlie, I want to tell you something." Her voice was a bit nasal.

"What?"

She was not afraid of losing face, but she was unwilling to let Charlie suffer that. If Olivia brought in Don, who was right outside the house, and disclosed that she worked as a hostess before in front of the guests at present, the Kingsley Family and Charlie would become an object of derision.

Unable to stop Olivia, she had to tell Charlie.
