Chapter 17 No One to Protect Her Anymore

"You're my girlfriend, and this is my obligation." His gentle voice fascinated those maids.

Only Donna frowned and looked grim.

It turned out they were a couple?

If so, why did Karl kidnap her and do that thing to her? Didn't he cheat on Ruby?

Donna racked her brains but still couldn't figure out why he kidnapped, tortured, and made life hard for her.

How did she offend the man exactly?

Donna was lost in thought and oblivious to the surroundings. Ruby called her a few times and finally brought her back to reality.

"Miss Perez, what can I be of service?" She asked.

"Help me remove the small bowl; I don't need it." Since Ruby called her to do the job, the others certainly didn't dare to come up.

Collecting herself, Donna went over, bent down, and picked up an empty bowl from the table.

She carried it and just turned to leave when someone tripped her, and she fell in Karl's direction!

If the man got up in time, he could catch her. Only he didn't and just sat by. As she fell on her stomach awkwardly, the bowl crashed and cut her hand.

"Ah!" She cried painfully from the heavy fall. After a long day, she was exhausted and hungry. Now the fall made her sad.

Ruby covered her mouth and feigned surprise, "Ah, what happened? Are you alright?"

Donna looked at her hand that was cut by the broken pieces. Blood was still oozing. She clenched her fists, gritted her teeth, and got to her feet.

As she got up, Ruby spoke tepidly, "You were so careless. It looks like you became a maid of the Kent family without any training. That's bad; your efficiency is a problem."

Donna fumed as this woman intentionally tripped her!

Only Ruby looked so innocent. Even if she laid it bare, who would believe her? Even if they believed her, who would help her?

Aware of her situation, she had to grit her teeth and endure it. However, she would not swallow her pride but replied indifferently, "Thanks for your concern, Miss Perez. It was just an accident and had nothing to do with my efficiency. Miss Perez, I think you should be clear about it."

She stressed her tone for the ending part of her speech as if every word contained profound meaning.

Ruby paled but predicated that Donna dared to complain. In response, she grinned, "Well then, be careful. It's embarrassing to fall like that in public."

She laughed behind her hand.

"What are you waiting for? Clean up the pieces." The man finally broke his silence.

His voice, as emotionless as ever, sent a shiver through her.

Her heart sank as she squatted lonely and picked up the pieces with her still hurting trembling hands.

At this place, she had to stay humble while enduring mistreatment and ridicule.

If Hamilton were around, he would protect her.

Pitifully, he was gone... No one was there to protect her anymore.
