Chapter 15 Are You Giving Me Orders
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it." Donna didn't have other choices except for apologizing.
"You think that will do? Can you afford them?" Ruby was relentless.
"Then tell me how I can compensate." Donna lifted her head to face the woman.
Ruby stiffened at the sight of her face.
In disbelief, she stood there and looked at the maid.
This maid... was so pretty!
The acknowledged beauty but had to admit her unique temperament.
Women could evaluate each other accurately, especially through examining appearance!
As Ruby stared at her in shock, Donna asked wonderingly, "Miss Perez, what's wrong?"
Ruby fumed even more, laid her eyes on Karl, and requested, "Karli, fire her! What's the point of keeping such a clumsy maid!"
She fretted. This maid was too pretty and a potential threat.
Donna was excited deep down. What a stroke of luck for her to crush those flowers! Perhaps, as this woman made a scene, Karl would kick her out of the house.
She waited readily for Karl to drive her away.
It was a long time of silence, and the tension was horrible.
Ruby remained furious and relentless.
But Karl was as cool as a cucumber.
In the end, an authoritative, deep voice broke the silence, "Are you giving me orders?"
"No, it's not like that, don't get me wrong." Ruby panicked instantly and explained hurriedly.
"What do you mean then? Ordering me around?" Karl sounded unpleasant.
She glared at Donna viciously before replying, "No, really, I was pissed. These flowers are my favorite, so..."
When she talked to Karl, her voice was meek and submissive.
"Apologize to Ruby immediately!" He turned to Donna.
"I... I've made an apology, but she didn't accept it." She muttered.
She looked discontented. In fact, she felt grieved to be taken here for no good reason and had to endure this. She was overwhelmed!
"Are you sure about your attitude?" Karl narrowed his eyes that glittered dangerously.
From his gaze, she detected a distinct threat.
Flustered, she immediately walked to Ruby, closed her eyes, lowered her head, and bowed, "Miss Perez, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to spoil your flowers. You're a noblewoman; please don't go down to my level."
Donna sounded natural in her speech. After all, with her family's downfall ten years ago, she was no longer a rich young lady but a commoner. Ten years of hardship taught her a lot, and she knew when to bow her head. Sometimes, a fight would get her nowhere and only aggravate the situation.
Ruby relented with her humble bow, raised her head high, and curled up her lips to smile contemptuously. "Since you know your fault, why not show more sincerity?" She said blandly, her eyes full of sarcasm.
