Chapter 10 Ready
Rose hung up the phone and pondered for a while before the corners of her mouth curved up in a triumphant smile.
She then quickly took the phone and dialed the number of James, Kelly's father.
...
At Kent's house...
Kelly just came out of the kitchen with a cup of warm soup.
She then felt a cold and fierce gaze.
She certainly knew who was looking at her.
Kelly raised her eyes and happened to meet David's gloomy eyes.
His features were outstanding and dashing. His dark hair was neatly combed. His well-ironed shirt set off his upright figure. Two cufflinks studded with gems were pinned to the cuffs.
From the inside out, he looked noble and elegant.
Besides, he boasted striking academic and family background. In any sense, his marriage partner would not be a village girl without much education nor a great family.
Kelly knew her distance!
She had never thought of rising to the top by marrying into a wealthy family.
She was not a submissive little woman either.
Especially when David looked at her as if she was a worthless insect, she itched to make fun of him.
Kelly snapped back her gaze and walked straight to Chapman.
"Chapman, here is your tonic diet!"
"Good kid! Stop bustling, sit down and dine! I've told the chef to prepare the dishes favored by David and you."
Chapman pointed to an empty seat next to David as a signal for her to sit down.
"Now, I can't live without your tonic diet. If you go home, my life will be difficult."
He paused, "Well, how about you stay?"
Kelly got the implication of Chapman's remark.
She deliberately sat down next to David and called out in an affectedly coquettish voice, "Chapman!"
Then she bowed her head coyly.
As expected, the man beside her looked icy.
Kelly slightly raised her head and shyly glanced at David out of the corner of her eye.
Then she used chopsticks to pick up a piece of lamb chops, turned sideways like a bashful little woman, and tried to place it on David's plate.
"David, lamb chops for you..."
"Get your dirty hand away from me!"
No sooner had he finished his speech than the maid hastened in.
Intentionally or unintentionally, she glanced at Kelly, "Mister, two people calling themselves Miss Clark's father and aunt are requesting an interview."
All the high spirits were dampened.
Kelly drew back her hand and put down the chopsticks. Her pretty eyes were filled with coldness.
She turned to Chapman.
"Mm, let them in." The old man nodded.
"Yes, sir!" The maid went away.
"You ready?"
"I am!"
Kelly nodded. Now her face looked frosty, and the coyness had been long gone.
David glanced at their faces suspiciously.
...
At the gate of Kent's manor...
James and Rose got in by shuttle vehicle.
A wide and flat tarmac road extended from the gate into the distance. On both sides erected exotic trees from around the world.
A gothic castle was hidden in the lush trees. Hazy in the distance, its spire looked majestic and mysterious.
