Chapter 9 A Call
Kelly cried in pain, "Ow, ouch!" In reflex, she raised her other hand to force open David's hand.
In her haste, she abruptly grabbed him by his wrist.
His pulse popped under her soft fingertips, and her attention was instantly drawn.
Turned out...
That was why!
Secret sorrow... impotence.
No wonder the 25-year-old man never got close to women!
At that moment, Kelly made a decision with no hard feelings... She would agree to Chapman's proposal and get engaged to David.
She had no reason to say no to such a win-win situation.
She could cure his hidden disease to return his favor.
Her eyes, like rolling dew on a lotus leaf, suddenly glittered knowing light.
There was a hint of sagacity and craftiness.
David stiffened at the sight of it but denied it the next second.
How was it even possible?
She was just a callow girl from the countryside. Not to mention seeing much of the world, she probably didn't even go to school, so sagacity was just impossible for her.
While David was in a daze, Kelly freed herself from the shackles.
"The Kent Family is century old, and the top power in City W. Since Chapman extended the branch for me to climb up, I certainly should cling to it. I'm not that stupid to let it slip."
Her speech was straightforward. It was out of the simplicity and honesty of a village girl.
"Ugh..." David narrowed his eagle's eyes and raised his hand, "Heh." A burst of cold laughter came out of his thin lips.
He stuck his hand in his pocket, took out a white handkerchief, and wiped his hands that just touched Kelly, "Great! You'll regret this."
People showing everything on the surface was not fearful!
Kelly was not daunted at all.
But on the surface, she deliberately cowered, put both hands in front of her, and looked vigilantly at him, "Chapman promised me that he would protect me."
"Wait and see!"
He fiercely dumped the white handkerchief in the trash basket and strode out toward the shuttle vehicle outside.
Kelly slowly snapped her gaze back.
She turned around and went upstairs... Her mouth should be cleaned properly!
...
At Clark's house...
Kelly's stepmother, Rose, couldn't sleep well the past few days.
The life and death of that bumpkin were unknown. It was like a time bomb in her heart that might explode at any moment.
In her bedroom, she paced back and forth.
"Worthless, what a bunch of losers!"
So many people were sent to kill that village girl, but the mission was unsuccessful!
Rat-tat.
There was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?"
"Madam, a call for you."
Rose pulled open the door, "The caller?"
"Prime Group, the Kent Family, according to the other party!"
"Which group?" Rose clasped the maid's hand.
"Prime... Prime Group..."
Before the maid could finish her speech, Rose had trotted downstairs, "Mr. Kent..."
"Oh, sorry, Mr. Phillips, hi!"
"What? You mean my daughter fell into the water and got saved by you?"
"Did she mention how she fell into the... What? She couldn't remember? Oh, okay, I'll call my husband right away and pick her up as soon as we can."
