Chapter 9 Census
Michelle smiled awkwardly but knew not how to pick up the conversation. After all, she was not Thomas's real girlfriend. "Mrs. Ruiz, I'm flattered!"
Ivy grabbed Michelle's hands, found them icy cold, and felt surprised, "Michelle, why is your hand so cold? It's not anything good and quite likely to be a sign of a cold womb. It can influence your fertility! I'll take you to see a doctor another day and have some prescriptions that could improve your condition!"
The corner of Michelle's mouth twitched. It was not a sign of cold womb at all, but her limbs turned cold due to her anxiety. After all, she had never faked anyone's girlfriend before. Besides, the other party was her boss. If she spoiled the show, she was very likely to be fired.
She felt frustrated about her bad luck. For no reason, she was accused of plagiarism. When she finally got an opportunity to turn back the tide, such a thing happened. The slightest carelessness could capsize the boat. Why did Thomas's mother come at such a moment? If she came a bit later, she might not have run into her and received a threat from Thomas.
Thomas found the question brusque. Who would talk about fertility when they met for the first time? Besides, Michelle was not his real girlfriend. That would embarrass both of them.
He had to steer the conversation away from the topic, "Mom, it's not a cold womb. She just caught a cold last night. Usually, her limbs are warm! So, just drop your concern!"
Ivy was relieved a little. Never would she want an infertile daughter-in-law.
To her, carrying on the family line was the primary matter.
Thomas wouldn't date, otherwise, she wouldn't have to worry about it.
Around 30, he still refused to date anyone. Rumor had it that he was gay, and all the family members were afraid that their family line would be cut off.
Ivy saw his beautiful girlfriend and finally rested her mind at ease. At least, it proved the sexual orientation of her son.
"Michelle, how old are you?"
"I'm 23!"
Ivy was pretty satisfied with her age. It was easier for women to conceive at younger ages. "What do your parents do? Running their own company or serving the government?"
Michelle knew not how to answer the question. It was just a show. Did she need to answer honestly?
She was worried that Ivy would look down on her for her ordinary status and background. Then the show would be for nothing, and she might lose her job.
Thomas couldn't bear Ivy's inquiries, "Mom, could you not ask so many questions when you meet for the first time? Is this a census? Don't scare my girlfriend. If Michi breaks up with me because of this, I may not fall in love again! Didn't you say that you wouldn't care about her status and background as long as I'm willing to date seriously, get married, and have our babies? Why do you ask so many questions now? Are you going back on your words?"
Since Thomas was so repulsive, Ivy had to restrain herself. Although she claimed that status and background didn't matter, she couldn't really do that. Then again, as long as he was willing to get married and have babies, her background would not be a primacy issue.
