Chapter 2 Picking up a Lost Child

Three years later.

In the old town of South City.

In a private Chinese medicine clinic.

After sending off the last patient, Kira stretched herself, got up, and took her leave.

It was dusk, and a red sunset covered half of the sky.

As usual, she walked back to her residence.

When she passed a bridge, she ran into a little guy sitting on the edge playing an airplane model.

The fence of the bridge performed practically no function, and a careless mistake would send the kid into the river.

She knitted her eyebrows and picked up the little kid without further ado.

Then two chubby hands warped around her neck. She lowered her head and saw a pair of dark eyes as big as grapes.

He blinked and opened his mouth, "Mommy."

Kira stiffened at the milky voice.

She was confined but had never seen her baby's face.

Her heart softened, and she smiled at him, "I'm not your mother, why are you here alone? Where is your family?"

The little guy pursed his lips and cried naughtily, "You're my mommy!"

Kira patiently explained, "I'm really not your mother, tell me where your family is? Do you have any contact with you?"

She fumbled through his body.

The kid lifted out his pockets himself.

The corner of Kira's mouth twitched.

He stared at Kira, pursed his lips, spoke in a distressed tone, "I don't have a mother, and my family abandoned me. Can you take me in?"

Kira scolded his parents in her heart.

She thought about it and suggested, "Human trafficking is illegal. Come on, I'll take you to the police."

Unexpectedly, the kid started crying as soon as her words came out.

His two chubby hands held her neck, and his fleshy face landed on her collar.

He choked with sobs in a sorry plight.

Kira's heart melted.

Poor thing…

"I don't want the police. I want to stay with you. I want you to be my mommy, take me home!" He threw a tantrum.

Kira knitted her brows between two fires and sighed helplessly after quite a while, "Alright, I'll take you home."

She didn't have the heart to leave him there, and he didn't like the police.

She had to take him back first, then asked for help, and looked for his parents.

Kira made up her mind and took him back to her house.

It was a one-bedroom apartment.

After entering the house, she wanted to put him to bed before lending her friends' help to find his parents. Unexpectedly, the kid followed her like a shadow.

Kira had to drop the idea temporarily. Allowing him to follow her into the kitchen, she cooked two bowls of noodles.

To her surprise, the kid was not picky about food. All the vegetables, eggs, and carrots were eaten while more than half of the soup was drunk.

Replete, he curved up his eyes and shouted in a milky voice, "Mommy, your food is so good."

Kira's eyes moved emotionally. She took out a piece of tissue and wiped his little mouth with a smile.

Then the boy once again followed her like a shadow.

Kira had to put him to bed with her best coaxing skills.

She took out a book and read fairy tales to him.

Halfway through the book, the kid still kept his shiny eyes open, but she was overcome with drowsiness.

Henry Myers held on to her arm tightly, and his big eyes glittered in the dark slyly.
