Chapter 11 Seems that You Hate Me
Leonard was sitting on a chair in a white shirt with a slightly open neckline. The sleeves of the shirt were rolled up to his elbows. His slender, pretty fingers were tapping swiftly on the keyboard, and his clearly defined face was wearing a severe and meticulous expression.
Victor stared at Leonard's face for a good while, then said in a jealous tone of voice, "Why God loves you so much? You're given a supreme family background, attractive features, a great figure, and of course, wisdom and talent. People like you are naturally hateful."
"So you hate me?" Leonard raised his eyes slightly to glance at Victor. "It must be hard for you to pretend friendly to me all these years."
"Not very much." Victor smiled. "Oh right, I heard that you have bought a piece of land in the north of the city and plan to build high-end apartments there. Why don't you leave the one next to yours to me?"
Leonard paused his work, looked at Victor, and nodded slightly. "You're well-informed. But if you fancy purchasing an apartment, please go to the company's sales department to register. It won't work if you hope to get it privately through me."
"Leonard, my dear President Bryant. We are good friends and brothers for more than a decade. You can't just ignore our friendship and brotherhood for an apartment, can you?" Victor immediately let out a flattering smile.
Leonard got up and walked to sit on the sofa next to the floor-to-ceiling window. Victor hurriedly followed and brought Leonard a cup of tea.
"It's just an apartment. You, President Jenkins, can buy it with ease." Staring at Victor's smiling face, Leonard coughed slightly.
Victor handed the teacup to Leonard and said, "Come on. Even if I have money, it's hard for me to get an apartment designed by you. For instance, all the South City Starry Apartments were booked long before its opening last year. I failed to get one last time. That's why I am now trying to please you, the president of the Bryant Group and the general manager of the Architectural Design Department."
All the commercial buildings designed by Leonard in C City did not need pre-sale advertisements because they would be sold out before they were built up. Leonard was the reason for the Bryant Group properties' high popularity.
Leonard nodded slightly. "Alright. I'll ask someone to keep one for you."
"Thanks. I'll buy you a drink another day." Victor beamed with joy and drained his tea. "By the way, did Olivia contact you recently? I met her a few days ago."
Leonard shook his head calmly. "No."
"Well, let's ask Olivia out for a meal tomorrow. You guys haven't seen each other for a long time." Victor thought for a while and continued, "I think she still likes you and cannot let you go, so she dare not come to you."
Leonard fell silent for a while and said, "I'm going to A City tomorrow for a business trip, so I won't have dinner with you."
"A business trip? Really? Are you trying to avoid meeting Olivia? What are you afraid of?" Victor smiled. "She is getting more and more beautiful. Honestly, I'm tempted."
"That's great. Make a move on her!" Leonard was wearing an indifferent expression as if it had nothing to do with him.
Victor shrugged helplessly. "She likes you. I don't have a chance."
Sitting on the sofa, Leonard put his hands on his knees casually, looked at the sunlight outside the floor-to-ceiling window, and got lost in thoughts. What appeared in his mind was Ashley's drunk appearance, the details of them being together, and the woman's satisfied moans.
Victor was surprised to look at Leonard in a daze and let out a meaningful smile. "I have known you for so many years. This is the first time I saw you in such a state. Are you thinking about a woman? Who is it? That girl at the bar?"
Leonard tilted his head to give a warning glance at Victor.
"Okay, I'll shut up. I won't say anything. But, I know there must be a woman by your side." Victor said surely.
Leonard did not retort.
At this moment, Victor's cell phone rang suddenly. He answered it, then sighed and got up. "My father forces me to go on a blind date once again. I have to leave. Let's hang out when you come back from the business trip."
Leonard watched Victor leave, got up, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to watch the bustling scene of C City outside.
Thinking of taking Ashley back to the old mansion for dinner in the evening, Leonard actually had a glimmer of anticipation in his heart. That was a strange woman he had only seen twice, and she climbed into his bed through despicable means. Why was he so obsessed with her?
At this moment, Ashley was reading the documents carefully in front of the desk. She was smart and had a great memory. Thus, she could memorize the information quickly. And she wanted to do her best to prove her abilities to Leonard.
At the President's Office, in addition to the President's Secretariat that Brenda was in charge of, senior assistants headed by Jacob and assisted by Frida were responsible for Leonard's work, and Debbie, who was around Leonard all the time, was his personal assistant.
As Debbie fetched the ironed clothes for Leonard from downstairs and was about to enter the president's office, she saw Ashley sitting in the senior assistants' office. Instantly, she paused her pace and approached Ashley slowly. When she saw the other woman's face clearly, she somehow felt flustered and jealous inside. Still, she comforted herself. "It's no big ideal. President Bryant likes men and has no interest in women."
"Hello, I'm Debbie, President Bryant's personal assistant, and you?" Debbie's desk was outside the President's Office. The senior assistants dealt with their work in a separate glass office next to it. She actually wanted to work in the senior assistants' office. However, she was turned down by Brenda and Mia for her insufficient qualifications many times. When she saw a new employee sitting inside, her heart immediately was wrapped by jealousy and curiosity.
Ashley immediately got up from the seat to look at the exquisitely dressed colleague, then revealed a smile. "Hi, I am Ashley, the new assistant of President's Secretariat. Pleased to meet you."
"New assistant of President's Secretariat?" Debbie frowned slightly. "Then I think you might have entered the wrong office. This one is for the senior assistants. You should go to the secretariat over there."
Sensing the obviously unkind vibe the other woman gave off, Ashley still maintained a polite smile. "Assistant Dawson asked me to come over. He said President Bryant is going on a business trip tomorrow and needs a helper, so Director Reid asked me to go along with them."
"You? Director Reid arranged for a newcomer to go on a business trip with us?" Wearing a disgusted look, Debbie smiled. "I'm telling you, President Bryant is an extremely demanding person for life and work. You are new here and thus not eligible to go on a business trip with us. I will immediately notify Director Reid to arrange for another assistant to go with us. You may go back to the secretariat now!"
Debbie had a sense of superiority as the president's assistant, and both her expression and tone of voice were saying that Ashley was very repulsive to her.
