Chapter 10 President Assistant
Seeing Ashley sitting there in silence, Mia asked with a frown, "Miss Powell. Have you made your decision? If you are still willing to stay in this company, I will have someone continue the entry procedures for you."
Ashley closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh inwardly, then opened her eyes and replied with a smile, "Okay, I will stay. But my ultimate goal is to enter the Architectural Design Department of the Bryant Group as a designer."
Mia glanced at Ashley and shouted towards the doorway, "Carla, take Miss Powell to go through the entry formalities. Then help her with the work handover. Don't make any mistake."
The young woman who welcomed Ashley earlier entered the office immediately and answered, "Yes, Director Pearce, don't worry. I will take Miss Powell to President's Secretariat."
Ashley got up and nodded slightly to Mia, who was dealing with her work elegantly. Then, she followed the other woman named Carla to go through the procedures.
"Hi Ashley, I'm Carla, the chief personnel officer Mia's assistant. From now on, we're colleagues. Feel free to ask me for help when you meet a problem at work in the future." Carla Carter was a young woman with long curly hair and looked gentle and pretty. When she smiled at Ashley, there were two tiny, adorable dimples on her cheeks.
Ashley nodded slightly. This was her first time entering the workplace. Although many people said that the workplace was often a place full of sheer cunning and falsehood, she thought that such a situation only existed among those who had common interests to compete with each other.
Ashley knew that after entering a company, she should first build up a good relationship with one colleague so that she could get along well with others and adapt to the company environment quickly.
"Hi, Carla. Nice to meet you. You are the first person I got to know in the Bryant Group. Hope that we can become friends in the future." Ashley was actually quite excited and forgot that some seniors told her that one should not make friends with colleagues.
Carla smiled. "I will take you to the president's secretariat office on the top floor. Someone there will explain your work and matters that should be noted to you. Do not make any mistake at the president's secretariat office. Otherwise, you will not even pass the trial period."
"Thank you for your reminder. I will be cautious." Ashley nodded and entered the elevator towards the president's secretariat office on the top floor with Carla.
After walking out of the elevator, Ashley first noticed the thick carpet on the floor, and then a spacious and bright lounge area with seemingly comfortable sofas, tables, and chairs. When she walked further inside, she saw a semi-open pantry, a large outdoor bar, and another lounge area outside the pantry. Then, they arrived at the President's Secretariat. The office area was spacious and bright, but everyone in the room seemed extremely busy.
"Director Reid, this is Ashley, the newly recruited assistant for President's Secretariat selected by Director Mia." Carla knocked on the office door of Brenda Reid, the person in charge of President's Secretariat, and then brought Ashley in.
Brenda started her career as an insignificant assistant. Currently, she was the head of the President's Secretariat. Her long curly hair was tied into a ponytail, which appeared clean and neat. She was wearing delicate makeup and a somewhat grave and standoffish expression.
Brenda lifted her head to look at Ashley, saying, "I hope this time the new employee is better at dealing with pressure and won't resign after a short period. If the unwanted situation happens again, the President's Secretariat will no longer recruit people through the Personnel Department."
"Director Reid, don't worry. That situation won't happen again. Right, Ashley?" Carla replied and looked at Ashley.
Ashley immediately nodded, saying, "Yes, Director Reid. Please don't worry. I'm good at dealing with pressure and won't give up easily."
Director Reid nodded at Ashley. "Well, I hope you can remember your own words."
"Director Reid, I have something else to deal with downstairs and will leave now." Carla smiled and then turned to leave.
Just as Ashley was about to say something, a young man in a white shirt and black suit hurried into the room.
"Assistant Dawson." Brenda said to the man who entered her office in a polite tone of voice, "You show up in my office in person. What's the matter?"
Jacob Dawson was Leonard's special assistant and worked for him for years. Therefore, people in the company were all in awe of him.
"Director Reid. President Bryant is going on a business trip to A City tomorrow morning. Frida is on sick leave. I need you to arrange for an assistant to come with us. Please pick a suitable person for me. I need to explain something urgently to her, "Jacob said in a hurry.
Brenda thought for a while, then looked at Ashley. "What about her? She is new here and hasn't taken over any other work yet. It's fine for her to go on a business trip with you."
Jacob looked at Ashley, then nodded. "You come with me."
Ashley glanced at Brenda and then followed Jacob out.
Jacob took Ashley to the senior assistant's office outside the president's office, told her to sit in front of the computer, and then threw a large pile of documents in front of her. "Before we set off tomorrow morning, you must familiarize yourself with all these documents. We are going to A City to talk about a huge project. It's important for us to answer whatever questions the other party might ask, and no mistake is allowed to happen. You understand?"
Ashley was surprised to see the thickness of the file of files but nodded her head, replying, "I see, no worries."
Ashley's answer made Jacob stunned for a second, but he was too busy to say anything else to her. "Read the documents here. I'm going out to get busy."
"Okay." Ashley looked at the superior office she was in. It was decorated in a modern, simple style. The table in front of her was full of various materials. When she looked up, she could see a closed door a few meters away, which belonged to the president's office.
Ashley's heart pounded violently as she thought that Leonard was sitting in that room.
In the president's office, Leonard was sitting behind his desk and looking at the drawings. Victor was sitting on the sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window and having coffee. The two of them had been silent like this for a good while.
"President Bryant, don't you want to tell me something? Such as the girl you took away from the Charm Bar yesterday." Victor asked cautiously, "When did you get to know a girl like that? She seems to be a pure woman. She is very young, right?"
Leonard kept silent.
Victor got up, walked over to Leonard's desk, and sat down. "Are you really not going to tell me? Even if you keep it a secret, I'll figure out a way to find out about that girl."
With his brows furrowed slightly, Leonard lifted his head to look at Victor coldly. "Why are you so gossipy? Do you have anything else to do?"
Victor revealed a smile. "You have taken over all the business in C City. Of course, I have nothing else to do but gossip about you."
