Chapter 10 Breaking the Rule
Mr. Wilson talked about Sheldon's habits for six minutes, worrying that Christine would break the rules.
It was a great honor for a woman to get closer to Mr. Collins. The woman before Mr. Wilson's eyes had actually moved in to live with Mr. Collins. It would not a surprise if she wanted to take a chance to steal the spotlight.
However, at Mr. Wilson's words, Christine maintained a calm expression and did not show any displeasure. "Mr. Wilson, no worries. I won't break any of you've said."
In fact, since that night, it was Sheldon who had made intimate moves on Christine, and the woman had no intention to flirt with the man at all. Learning that he had so many quirks, and particularly, did not like others to get closer to her, she somehow felt relieved.
Just as they finished the conversation, Sheldon's voice sounded from the second floor, "Come up here."
Christine was not quite sure whether Sheldon was calling her or Mr. Wilson. However, she noticed that he was staring at her. Thus, she headed upstairs.
In the meantime, Mr. Wilson hinted the woman with his eyes, hoping that she would remember what he had told her and not annoy Sheldon.
Actually, as long as Sheldon did not approach her, Christine would never take the initiative to get close to him.
"What do you do for a living?" Sheldon asked Christine.
"Brand planning," answered the woman frankly.
"Come in and help me with the paperwork."
The work Sheldon had brought home must be significant. Was he not afraid to let Christine see them? Did he genuinely trust her?
"Mr. Collins. Honestly, I am sleepy and fancy a rest." Christine refused the man as she had no intention to get deeply involved in his life.
Unexpectedly, as she turned around, Sheldon yanked her back, forcefully pressed her shoulders down, and made her sit on the couch next to the desk.
Christine blinked, feeling confused. Had not Mr. Wilson said that Sheldon disliked having close interaction with women? Why was he breaking the rules on his own?
The man then placed a pile of documents before Christine, saying, "Finish checking on these files before sleep."
Christine replied with a frown, "I'm not your secretary or assistant!"
"So what? You're living at my place. It's natural for you to do some work for me."
At his words, Christine actually did not feel angry any more. "Fine, I'll check on the files. However, I will not take responsibility for the results."
"Just tell me the strengths and weaknesses of each of them, and I'll make the decisions," said Sheldon.
Christine withdrew her eyes, moved a meter away from the man, and then began reading the documents carefully.
Why did the woman sit far away from him? Sheldon furrowed his brows.
The first document Christine read was from the planning department. The Collins Group was large. Even though the woman had expertise in brand planning, she actually had little to say about it.
Some of the other documents were from subsidiaries of the Collins Group, and some were from the business department. Generally speaking, the business department was the core of a company. Why was the man showing her such significant files? Involuntarily, Christine cast a confused glance at Sheldon.
Sheldon, however, was staring at the computer screen. It was apparent that he was not doing something serious. Thus, Christine got slightly furious. How could the man ask a pregnant woman to read the documents for him while he was browsing something else?
She was curious to see what he was looking at.
When she leaned in, however, Sheldon swiftly closed the page he was reading. Christine then decided that he was reading something nasty.
Christine curled up her lips into a cold smile. "Mr. Collins, the work is yours. Do it or not, as you please. I'm not going to work for you. You know, I can't afford to shoulder the rise and fall of the Collins Group."
After throwing the business department's papers on his desk, she turned and walked away.
Her figure was slim, but her departing back was tinged with coldness and determination. Sheldon stroked his perfect chin and did not refocus on the screen after a good while.
He reopened the previous web page, and the question in the search bar was, "What kind of beverage could help a pregnant woman with her sleep?"
...
In the bedroom, Christine felt exhausted. After taking a quick shower, she changed into her pajamas, intending to go to sleep.
At this moment, Mrs. Jones knocked on the door. Christine opened it, asking, "What's the matter, Mrs. Jones?"
"Miss Smith. Mr. Collins has asked me to prepare some soup for you. Which one do you prefer, white fungus and lotus seeds soup or lily bulbs and milk custard?"
Sheldon specially asked Mrs. Jones to prepare two kinds of soup in case Christine did not like one of them.
