Paula

I snapped to my evil thoughts, and because I was too innocent to believe that there are horrible people who could do such nasty things. I just couldn’t believe it!

My father and my mother asked me worriedly, “what’s wrong, Paula?”

I shook my head and drew a wide smile, but deeply I was not feeling okay “nothing, my stomach just growls! I think I’m hungry.” I mocked.

But I couldn’t tell them! My father already wanted me to break up with Dave. He didn’t give me any reason!

I wondered if he knew something, and he was hiding from me to not shatter my heart!

No way! Dave can’t do that to me and even if he did! Elizabeth won’t do it! Yes!

When my face announced that we had arrived at the ballroom, I was talking to myself— I searched my eyes for Dave's car, but I didn’t see it. I searched for Elizabeth's car too and there was no sign for her either!

I don’t know why it came to my mind. I guess it was fate or maybe angels wanted to help me. I called Elizabeth on her cellphone but she didn’t pick up.

So because her house was too close to the ballroom, I asked my father, “please, father, we still have time. Could you please drive me to Elizabeth's house. I need to check on her.”

He nodded and weirdly, he didn’t refuse; my mother was just staring at me confused. I didn’t give any reason because they knew that Elizabeth was my best friend as my soul mate. So there was no way I would start my engagement party without her.

I kept calling her but she didn’t answer, so I called Dave as well, but he didn’t answer!

Once my father parked the car, I opened my door and rushed to her house ringing the doorbell. No one answered, not even her parents! Which was weird!

I remembered they used to hide a spare key under the small statue next to the gate. So I grabbed it and opened the door. I shouted, calling her “Elizabeth! Auntie! Uncle!” but no one answered.

My father was already following me and asked me “why are you here? She’s not here!”

But before he could finish his words, I heard noises from upstairs.

But with my pure intentions, I climbed the stairs, I thought there was a thief. I whispered to my father “I think there's a thief.”

And that was seconds before we both unlocked the door at the same time to see dave my boyfriend and Elizabeth naked on her bed and having sex!

I yelled breathlessly in the thunderstruck, “dave! Elizabeth!”

“you son of a bitch!” my father hollered at dave.

Elizabeth stood up and wore her clothes slowly. As if nothing happened. She coldly said, “don’t make a fuzz! He didn’t love you.”

I gazed at Dave, and he just lowered his gaze and nodded, “yes, I didn’t love you, Paula.”
