Chapter 10 Miss Watson is not a Weak Woman
"Carole, we're family. We didn't help you two years ago because we really didn't have any available money. Your uncle and I have been guilty of that!" Nicole had a sad look on her face as she said so, and her eyes even turned red.
Unfortunately, no matter how seemingly authentic her performance was, Carole could not believe her.
She could never forget about Nicole and the others' ruthlessness after the accidents had befallen her family.
Her uncle and his family had invaded her father's business, thrown her out of the house, and refused to pay her mother's medical bills.
She once knelt on their doorstep for a day and a night until she fainted.
Carole's eyes filled with hatred as she thought of the past.
"Stop acting in front of me. Everything you have now used to belong to my family. Someday, I'll take all of them back!"
Selma rushed over to Carole and pushed her. "Bitch. if my father's business wasn't in trouble, you think we'd be here for you?"
So here was their purpose!
Carole looked at the two women in front of her with a sneer like they were clowns.
"Yeah? What a loser your father is! But it's none of my business if his business is in trouble. You really think I am capable enough to help him out?"
"You!"
"Selma!" Nicole hurried to pull her daughter away, smiled at Carole, and then explained, "There's a Mr. Lewis who really likes you. Your uncle has arranged a dinner party tomorrow evening and wants you to be there to meet Mr. Lewis, as well as ask him to introduce you to a new job!"
"I'm afraid it is more than just a dinner, isn't it?" Carole knew that there must be a trap.
Finding a job for her?
They were obviously trying to sell her to that man!
She was not stupid!
"I'm sorry, but I won't show up. Go back and tell my uncle that Selma is better in pleasing that man than I am!"
"How dare you!" Selma raised a hand towards Carole in exasperation.
Pa!
A palm print immediately appeared on Carole's face as she was slapped in the face.
"You have to be there tomorrow! Otherwise, we won't give you a penny, and you can just watch your mother die!"
Selma lifted her chin smugly and looked at Carole defiantly.
Just at that moment, the car that had come to pick up Carole arrived.
Witnessing Carole being beaten, the driver was shocked.
He thought he needed to get out of the car to help Miss Watson.
As he was about to do so, Carole turned around.
Gritting her teeth, she raised her hand and slapped Selma hard in the face.
Selma got dizzy in an instant!
Bravo!
The driver almost clapped in delight.
It seemed that Miss Watson was not a weak woman at all. Well done!
She had the same trait as Mr. Morris.
Selma had not expected Carole to fight her back. After a few seconds of being stunned, she lunged at Carole again.
"Stop!"
The tall, burly driver gripped Selma's arms tightly.
He used his body to protect Carole.
Then he said respectfully and politely, "Miss Watson. Mr. Morris asked me to pick you up!"
"I see." Carole nodded somewhat awkwardly.
She was a little worried that what was happening would affect her interview later.
The driver did not let go of Selma until Carole got into the car.
And it was not until the vehicle was out of Selma's sight that she eventually got back to her senses.
"Mom, who was that man? Have you seen him before?"
Nicole's eyes were full of anger and unwillingness as she gritted her teeth. "It doesn't matter who that man is, he's just a driver. All that matters is the boss behind him!"
"Mom, are you saying that Carole is with a rich guy now?
"Probably. Where else can she get the money to cover her mother's medical bills?"
"So, what shall we do? If Mr. Lewis cannot get Carole, he won't help Dad. Is our family going to be broke soon?"
"Nonsense! It won't!" But Nicole was also feeling distraught.
She had lived a rich, comfortable life for years and definitely did not want to live in poverty.
Therefore, she must find a way to get Carole into Mr. Lewis' bed!
