Chapter 8 Carole Lost Her Job

"What?" Carole widened her eyes open in disbelief. "Manager Lloyd, what did I do wrong?"

Manager Lloyd explained straightforwardly, "You've probably offended some big shot. He ordered us to ban you, and no photography studio in town will dare hire you!"

"Ban me?" Carole was stunned.

Who had she offended? The clue was that the person was a big shot!

Could it be that mysterious husband of hers?

The thought made Carole let out a bitter laugh.

Her boss looked at her sympathetically and said, "You're very good at business. Maybe you could go to another city. I'm sure you will ace your job there as well."

"Thank you!"

Carole dropped her eyes and walked out of the office in silence.

As she walked out of the photography studio, she felt the entire sky was darkening.

This was a job she had held for two years and had relied on to provide for her mother's medical bills.

On the way back to her place, she checked her bank account balance, and it was only a few thousand dollars left.

She needed to find her next job soon!

She turned to walk out of the bank when a hand suddenly tugged at her. "Carole, where were you last night? Your phone is off, and I'm worried!"

"Rachel!" With tears welling up in Carole's eyes, she hugged her friend, who had appeared out of the blue. "I've just lost my job!"

"Lost your job?" Rachel was startled.

The next second, she smiled and said, half-jokingly, "I was worried you'd lost your virginity when you hadn't answered your phone all night."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Carole patted Rachel's shoulder and could not help smiling.

Rachel had been Carole's friend for many years and had always been there for her when she needed help.

Rachel was an optimistic, positive girl. When she was around Carole, all of the latter's terrible thoughts would be thrown into outer space.

Upon returning to the apartment she rented, Carole immediately charged her phone and started to look for a job online.

However, for a few days, she sent her resume to multiple companies, but none of them were interested in her.

As she was anxious, the hospital called to inform her that her mother's condition had worsened and that she would have to pay a large sum of money for the treatment.

Carole kept thinking about raising the money and had not slept well for days.

Rachel offered to help. However, as Carole had taken too much help from her over the past two years, she did not want to get Rachel involved once again.

This time, she wanted to solve the problem on her own.

This day, she came to the hospital to visit her mother.

Carole's nose felt sore, and her eyes were red as she looked at her mother, who was lying on the hospital bed and looked pale and lifeless.

"Mom, you have to get better soon. I miss you! I want to take you home!"

"Mom, I'm no longer the same unruly daughter who only knows how to get you into trouble. I'm hardworking now and can earn money to support you!"

"Even though Dad and my brother are gone, but, Mom, you still have me. You couldn't bear to leave me alone in this world, could you?"

"Mom!"

Carole babbled on and on to her mother.

However, her mother lay still and did not respond to her.

Then, suddenly, a doctor came into the ward.

Looking at Carole, the doctor said, "Your mother's condition is not good. If the treatment is delayed, I'm afraid..."

Carole's heart shivered, and she lifted her bloodshot eyes to look at the doctor. "Hasn't my mother's condition been pretty stable? How could it suddenly deteriorate?"

"Your mother should have received better treatment for her condition, but unfortunately..." The doctor intentionally did not finish his words.

But his meaning had been made very clear.

It was because of a lack of money!

Carole lowered her head sadly.

She must not let her mother leave her. She had to give her the best treatment!

At this moment, she made a decision in her mind.

......

After walking out of the hospital, she fished the note out of her bag, then with a shaking hand, she dialed the number written on the piece of paper.

At the moment, Oscar was in a meeting.

Seeing the caller ID Honey Bun on his phone, he waved his hand to stop the subordinate, who was reporting to him.

Then, he strode straight out of the office.

Leo hurried to catch up with him, his mouth twitching.

He thought to himself, "Miss Watson, I'm sorry!"

"I'm an accomplice!"
