Chapter 13 A Bastard
Seeing Bess's embarrassed expression, Aanisah felt quite happy instantly. In short, she had never been so arrogant and proud in her life.
But when the glorious moment passed, Aanisah suddenly realized that some things were not as simple as she thought.
Like... What was her relationship with this man?
Or... Was this man powerful in his family?
Or... How much power could she exercise?
"Mr. Wood, can I ask you a question?" Aanisah looked at the man next to her with fear. At the moment, they were sitting in the car, which was quiet enough for them to hear their own heartbeats.
"Andrew Wood!" Andrew withdrew his gaze from the phone and turned to look at her, "You can call me Andrew, or Andy if you like!"
Andy?
Aanisah couldn't help but shudder.
"Uh... we are not that familiar yet. I'd better call you Mr. Wood." Aanisah was wise enough to pick a proper title for him. But... Andrew wood? Why did this name sound so familiar? As if she had heard it somewhere before.
"Are we?" Andrew raised his brows slightly, "I thought we were familiar enough to trust each other."
Aanisah pulled the corners of her lips awkwardly but couldn't even squeeze out a perfunctory smile.
There was a big gap between their backgrounds. Would there be someday that they wouldn't even share the same values and topics?
"Uh... Mr. Wood, you are so funny!" Aanisah avoided his gaze for questioning her, "Well... Actually I want to ask..." She hesitated because she didn't know whether she would be thrown out of the car after she asked the questions out.
"Just say it. I don't like women who stutter!" Andrew withdrew his gaze from her face and flipped through the electronic documents on the phone again.
Aanisah turned to look at him. His side face alone was enough to make her uneasy.
"Do you share a high status in your family?" Aanisah finally asked after a long struggle.
Andrew paused, then turned to look at her, "Define high and not high."
"Uh..." Aanisah thought for a moment, "Let me put it this way. If I am bullied by Johnny and the others, would you be able to help me?"
Andrew raised his brows slightly and frowned as if something suddenly occurred to his mind, "I forgot to tell you one thing."
"What?"
"I'm an illegitimate son of the Wood Family!" Andrew looked at her plainly, showing no guilt or shame, but calmly introducing himself.
"What?"
Aanisah looked at him in horror. She had thought that she had relied on a big tree to support her, but now, she suddenly felt that she had fallen from the big tree, and she was even facing the ground while failing.
"Disappointed?"
"If I had known this, I wouldn't have said that." Thinking of how she bragged in front of Bess, Aanisah almost wanted to die, "I thought you could help me. But now, it seems... you can't even protect yourself!"
That's how she identified a bastard?
Andrew was supposed to tell her the truth, but now he had lost his mood. Seeing her disappointed expression, he couldn't help but feel a little angry.
"Aanisah Brook, if you are here with me only because you want to defeat Johnny and your sister, then you are on your own because I won't do anything!"
"What did you say?"
"I don't want my woman being by my side with her spirit in somewhere else! What's more, I don't want her to be with me while thinking of other men at the same time!" Andrew kept staring at a file on his phone, his words cold and indifferent.
