Chapter 14 Stay Home and Wait for Me

Christine protected Franklin as if he were a child. It made all people there astonished.

The police looked at Christine in surprise.

The lightning flashed in the sky at the moment, and there was a loud crash of thunder. The face of Christine was too pale to find another color, and nobody could read her thoughts through her desperate eyes.

Seeing that she hugged him so tightly, Franklin wrinkled his brows, held her shoulders, and glanced coldly at those policemen.

"There, there. I will come back in a minute."

There was some softness in his cold voice.

The policemen took a deep breath with relief on hearing his words.

"Thanks, Mr. Brook." The policeman continued, "And there was news about that accident you asked us to investigate. It could be better if you come and solve the two things together."

"Okay, I will go with you after taking my wife to the room," Franklin said in a pitiless tone.

Franklin carried her in his arms, put her on the sofa, and fetched her a cup of tea, "Stay home and wait for me. Trust me, I will be back. Okay?"

Christine lowered her head and took that cup of tea. But she grabbed the corner of his clothes when he turned around, "Can I go with you? I am terrified to stay home alone on a thundering night? You won't leave me home alone, will you?"

All she asked was to stay by his side. She had been in prison for three years and died there in her previous life. Nobody knew better than her what an awful place it would be.

Franklin only answered her with silence.

Then she looked at the policemen nearby in the same way when a pool guy was begging some bad men.

"My husband couldn't have murdered Martin Jones. You must make a mistake." Christine changed her tune, gnashed her teeth, and jumped down from the sofa, "Sir, I also want to call the police. Martin Jones intended to do something wrong to me. He wanted to murder me. The car accident that day was originally our self-defense!"

The policemen didn't know what to say and wondered if she was falsely accusing Martin.

Christine even wanted to sew Martin's mouth with a needle to prevent him from talking nonsense and framing her husband!

"That's enough." Franklin frowned tightly, carried her in his arms, and put her back on the sofa. And then he gave an order to the housekeeper, "Bring her a cup of hot tea and don't let her get out."

Franklin put on his trench coat and quickly drove away with the police without looking back.

And Christine, her hands were tightly held by the housekeeper and Mrs. Miller. Or she would have been out and followed Franklin in such a raining and thundering night.

Seeing that Franklin was away in his car, Christine lowered her head and could not cry anymore.

The housekeeper was worried about her and petted her back carefully, "Madam, don't worry about Mr. Brook. He will be fine and back."

"That's right. He will be back when you drink the tea, sleep, and wake up." Mr. Miller added. In their eyes, Christine was the same as a child who was not mature enough.

Christine clenched her fingers slowly. She suddenly raised her head and looked at the heavy rain outside. She was not crying anymore and dried up her tears. She finally calmed down.

She could not lose her mind now.

Martin would frame Franklin. Martin had acquired several contracts through her, and he could defame Franklin's company by that.

After thinking for a while, Christine ran to the garage, drove a car at random, and rushed out of the villa when the housekeeper didn't notice her. And she left a message, "Don't call Frank or he will be worried."

She could not remember that man's telephone number clearly, yet she knew exactly where he lived because she had been there. She remembered it so well. After all, she had been dragged there to kneel for three days and three nights to apologize because she stabbed Franklin in her previous life.

But she knew one thing: that man would save Franklin because he had done it before.

The pouring rain hit the car window hard. And she trembled with lightning flashing in the sky. She grasped the steering wheel tightly and her face was as pale as a dead man. She raced all the way and compressed the one-hour drive into half an hour.

Passing vehicles hurried to avoid her when they saw her drove so fast that the car was almost about to take off on the road.

After all, nobody wanted to trouble themselves with roadkill.

Let alone they saw that special license plate number.

Christine drove to Johnny 's Villa. The windshield was completely blurred by the rain.

She closed her eyes for a moment and then a dazzling light flashed into her sight. She exclaimed and then heard a "bang" and a shrill whistle.

Heavy smoke rose from the front of the engine hood. Christine was dizzy for a while and her arm was hurt by the branches of the tree she crashed at.

"Ah..."

A pang of pain struck her as she was about to move. She was lucky enough to be just dizzy after such an accident because Franklin's car was equipped with special safety technics.

She got out of the car and staggered to the gate of Johnny's Villa in the heavy rain. She rang the doorbell and shouted, " Johnny Lewis! Franklin was in trouble! Save him, please!"

That man sneered at Christine on the second floor and knew what happened there the moment she approached the villa.

And he ordered pitilessly, "No one is allowed to open the door for her. Let her stand there and I want to know how long she will be there."

Christine saw exactly that there were lights on the second floor of the villa. Yet nobody opened the door after ten minutes. She could not wait there anymore and looked at the 2-meter-high gate. Then she started to climb the gate without thinking about how she should behave like a lady.

Johnny wrinkled his brows and stared at the woman on the gate and didn't know what to say about her.

He didn't anticipate that Christine could do this.

And she did it so naturally as if she had done it before.

Christine also had no idea she could do it easily. There seemed to be a power that drove her to do so fearlessly when she thought about the fact: Franklin was in trouble.

It was nine o'clock at night now and the world had already become dark. After a tiring daytime, Christine was so exhausted that she didn't hold the gate tightly and fell on the earth when she turned over the other end of the iron gate. Her black trousers were scratched by the iron railing. She fell from a place more than one meter high.

It was a huge pain.

Her tears welled up and flowed into her mouth together with raindrops.

Christine struggled to hold the iron railing and got up from the ground. She felt that her bones were falling apart. However, she did not flinch. Instead, she took off her high heels and threw them at the door. She went barefoot to the bright office on the second floor.

Boom!

She opened the door of the study. A man was sneering at her by the window, with a cup of wine in his hand.

"Christine, how dare you come to me?"

【Christine, how dare you still come to me? Don't you have a heart and don't know love? What a good husband Frank is! How can you try to kill him with another man? It would be better for him to love a beast! 】

【Get out of here! I will never allow you to stay by his side even if he can wake up!】

【...】

Christine felt those harsh words came to her once more and they almost drove her crazy.
