Chapter 15 - Amal

Amal and Jecinta stood at the kitchen place and both stared at Sham as she hugged her knees crying. She had refused to let go of the wedding invitation card nor eat nor sleep. "What do we do Amal?" Jecinta asked eyes still fixed on Sham. "I don't know but you need to be here with her." Amal said switching his eyes to face Jecinta. She also turned and faced him. "I need to go home I can't stay here, my husband will be waiting." She said. Amal stared at her for a while and knew something was definitely wrong with her and she didn't want to air it out. Maybe because she was scared or because the problem was too complex. He couldn't understand. "You are her friend Jecinta, I'm just but a stranger to her....."

"I know! Okay Amal I know, I have to be here for her but my family is much more important okay and I don't want to take chances on that." She said raising her voice. Amal kept his eyes fixed on Jecinta. Only a person in a toxic marriage will raise her voice in such issues. He was a victim and he knew how it felt and now he was over and done with the heartbreak and everything, he could sense it in Jecinta and it was written all over her face. "Are you okay in your marriage."

"Yes, why do you ask?" She asked raising her eyebrows which to him, he knew she was lying. "Because you are acting like a person in an unhealthy relationship...."

"Amal please, if it's because of her then forget it, I won't stay I'm leaving." She said and walked back to the living room, she then took her handbag and left even without saying goodbye. Amal went back to the living room. He was literally confused, this was new to him, he had never handled a crying heartbroken woman before. He then sat where Sham was and looked at her. The sight of her crying was close to him and this time he felt heart broken too. 'Why would she cry over that bastard and I'm here, can't she see I'm here for her.' He thought. "You need to stop crying and put yourself together." He finally got some words to spill to her. She looked at him and wiped her tears. "Why should I stop crying Amal.... I've worked so hard to plan this wedding knowing that it's mine, then I end up planning for another woman, why did it have to be her Sandra huh." She said and hugged her knees tighter and weeped even more bitterly than before. Amal swallowed and took a deep breath. "When my wife left me, she created a deep hole inside my heart that no one was ever going to fill it. I felt numb and void and dead. My world crumbled only because I loved her with everything I had." He said then sighed and continued. "My friends told me to put myself together that everything will be fine but I knew they didn't know the feeling..so I just kept on deteriorating and I reached a point of hating women with my life." She raised her head and looked at him wiping her tears with the back of her hands. "And.." She asked, Amal looked at her and smiled. He felt proud he was catching her attention at least. "Till I met someone, that's when I knew my heart was over everything." He said and smiled. "How long were you both married. "Only four years." Sham kept her eyes on him. "It took me five years to recover from all that."

"What happened, why did she leave you?" She asked. Amal looked at her, he wasn't ready to spill the beans about his life to her. He wanted to just lie and be happy, he wanted to have a happy normal life not based on his past. He knew this happy normal life would come with her and telling her his past would be changing her view about him. "She died, she was killed." He said. Sham broadened her eyes and he wondered why she took it with so much intensity. "I'm sorry.." She said then moved closer and hugged him. "I'm sorry." Amal noticed he was shedding a tear with one eye. 'Thats why she's hugging me.' he thought. "She was killed while pregnant." He added to just let her know. She wiped her tears completely. "So whatever you are passing through, I passed through it with intensity, maybe he was not the best for you. Think about it this way, what if you were married and realized he had a family aside." He then stared at her. She looked away. "You see, now just take something then go and sleep." He said. Then stood up and brought her a glass of water. "I'm not hungry, maybe I should just rest." She said as Amal gave her the glass of water. "Okay, I'm going to leave you alone for now, to meditate on what I've told you. You need to think and tomorrow I want to meet you better and stronger than today." Amal said as he stood up to leave. "Hey," Sham called, he faced her before leaving. "Thanks." She said smiling. He smiled back and nodded. He walked to his car to drive home. He was proud of himself at least he had made progress and he felt stronger.
