Chapter 5
Terrence's Point of View
"I doubt that it's really your Mommy... it's probably not her." Hacob gave back my phone and went back to the kitchen to continue making our coffee.
"Do you really think it's not her?" My tone sounded with so much disappointment.
Well, who wouldn't be?
"Yup!"
I sat on the dining chair just so I could clearly talk to Hacob. He seemed serious by what he just said, which means that it is really what he's thinking. Besides, I know Hacob won't react sarcastically on this matter as he knows how much I am invested with this habit... and how much I always hope for Mommy to reply to me.
"Why do you think so?"
Hacob handed me the coffee that he made and then sat beside me. He took a sip of his coffee before he answered my question.
"Because I'm certain that that phone number you keep on texting is owned by someone that is not your mother."
"Then why did that someone replied, 'Good luck!'?" I sighed and slightly scratched my head.
"Maybe because that someone was just bored or something? Or maybe that someone got tired of you and just wanted to make you stop so he, at last, replied?"
This feels kinda frustrating. I can't help but think Hacob is right because he really has a point... and his point makes more sense than what I'm currently hoping for.
I did not respond to him and just sighed deeply once again because I really don't know what to say and how to react. He just tapped my back to give some comfort, and as expected, I was comforted by it... to the point that I even felt some butterflies in my stomach.
It's always like this.
He does something so little, but my heart reacts as if that thing that he just did was grand.
"No matter what you say and no matter how your point makes sense, I still think that it was Mommy who sent that text... and please, Hacob, let me be... just for my peace of mind. Okay?!" I raised my brows at him.
He shrugged and rolled his eyes.
"I just don't want you to get your hopes up on something that feels a bit impossible..."
I just rolled my eyes at him at did not answer anymore. Idrank all the coffee that he made for me, put the mug on the sink, and then went back to the bedroom.
As I lied down my bed, my phone beeped.
I immediately looked at the notification, and once again, I jumped out of the bed out of happiness.
It's another text from Mommy!
"Hacob!" I hurriedly ran to the kitchen and gave Hacob my phone to make him read what I just read.
From: Mommy
I'm sorry if I replied just now. I didn't know what to say back then, but now, I'm really happy that you are in your college life and I really wish you a good luck.
"Oh..." Hacob's mouth formed an 'o.'
"Well... I guess, you're right. Maybe it's really Aunt Therese." He nodded as if he's accepting defeat.
Right after I received that text message from Mommy, I really wanted to reply, but I couldn't compose a message because of too much happiness and because of the overwhelming feeling.
I just stared at her message the whole night until I found myself falling asleep!
I could still feel the overflowing happiness that I felt last night when I woke up from my alarm. I immediately went to the bathroom and took a bath (while singing and dancing happily).
"What the hell... did someone just possess you? It's still too early in the morning, and you're so active!" I heard Hacob from the outside of the bathroom. He's probably eating a sandwich as his mouth felt full (based from my hearing) when he spoke.
"I'm just happy! Can't I be happy?!" I screamed back at him and then laughed out loud. My voice echoed, which I know even if I'm currently not seeing him, made him annoyed. He hates bathroom echoes, that's why.
"You're too happy! Everything that's too much is unhealthy, Ter!" he warned me as if he's some kind of a philosopher.
I ignored him and continued having a mini concert while cleaning myself here in the bathroom.
After that mini concert that I just held, I immediately clothed myself with our all-white school uniform.
Seeing myself in the mirror wearing an all-white uniform was so satisfying! I even took a lot of mirror selfies as I really felt like I'm a medical student (even though I'm still not as I'm just a pharmacy student).
After taking several mirror selfies, I ate the sandwich that Hacob prepared for me and then brushed my teeth.
---
"Oh my god, we all look so good in our uniforms!" Lyra exclaimed as she walked out of her and Aly's dorm. She stopped us all from walking and then grabbed us all.
"We should take a selfie before finally heading to our univ!" she said, and then immediately raise her hand that holds her phone and then took selfies.
In fairness, we really do look good in our uniforms as what she said.
Because we will all have classes in different buildings as we have different college courses (except for me and Hacob, of course), we waved goodbye to each other as we parted ways.
Since we are five minutes early before our first class, Hacob and I decided to stay first at the botanical garden and just go to our classroom once our professor comes in.
Hacob sighed deeply as he sat on the bench.
"Why is that a deep sigh?" I raised my brows on him.
"Well... I'm still not seeing the girl of my dreams, and it's kinda getting boring for me. This isn't the first day of class that I imagined..." He even clicked his tongue and shook his head.
I just shook my head too, and laughed a little bit as I know that what he said was just a sarcasm (although I know that it's somehow half meant).
After a minute or so, we saw someone older than us, which we assumed our professor, went inside our designated room so we immediately ran for our lives.
We ran because we both felt like the professor is a terror one. But if he really is, I don't think he'll be mad at us as it's still not 7AM, so we're technically not considered as late comers.
We entered our classroom and saw a bunch of students. If I'm going to estimate it, we were around 20 already. Some students were talking to each other, while most of them were busy with their phones and not interacting.
"Everyone, stand up... I'd like to arrange your seats alphabetically," our professor said as he was eyeing the paper that he was holding, which I assumed was the class list.
Every one stood up and our professor called us by our surnames alphabetically.
Since Hacob and I both have A surnames (mine's Antares and Hacob's Alcantara), we became seatmates. Each row has ten chairs but it was divided into two because of the aisle, and I'm in the last two chairs before the other five chairs in our right side.
As I've mentioned, Hacob is my seatmate and he was seated at my left, while my other seatmate at my right was still not around.
After a few minutes, all of us were all in our designated seats.
Our professor, who still hasn't said his name, was about to speak but he was interrupted by the late comers.
"Surnames, please."
The late comers said their surnames and they all individually seated through their designated seats. One of the late comers turned out to be my other seatmate, and his surname's Avelino.
"Since we're all complete, I'd like to start a fun activity for us to get to know each other. Please get yourselves a partner, and submit your names to me through a one fourth sheet of paper." Okay... I'll take back what I just said earlier. Our professor is really not that terror. He just looked like one because he gave off such vibe.
"I'll write our names, okay?" I nodded at Hacob who was busy getting a one fourth paper on my bag. Good thing, I was able to remember earlier to bring such paper.
After Hacob finished writing our names, he submitted it to our professor but...
"I'm sorry, Mr. Alcantara, please get another partner. Mr. Avelino already submitted a paper with Mr. Antares as his partner."
What the?! How did this guy at my right found out my name?
