07: The CEO & I ( Love Me Tender )

Evelyn, Samuel's mother, waited in the yard on the veranda, with Megan by her side, as Samuel's car pulled in. Megan hurried off to get his bag, earning a nod of approval from Evelyn. "Now that's how a wife behaves," she commented.

"Mom," Samuel greeted as he stepped out of the car.

"Welcome home, son," Evelyn replied with a smile.

"Thank you." Samuel glanced past his mother, searchingly.

"Don't bother, that barren woman is not in," Evelyn remarked dismissively.

Samuel didn't bother to ask his mother to address his wife with respect.

"Is she still acting out?" Samuel checked his phone and noticed missed calls from Quincy's secretary and Ophelia. He frowned when he clicked on the messages.

It was as he had expected. He shoved the phone back into his back pocket.

"I don't know, and I don't care," Evelyn replied. "You have Megan now. Don't entertain that half woman. Better still, I think you should start applying for a divorce. You've been married for ten years, and she hasn't gotten pregnant yet. It's best we get rid of her."

"You know I can't simply do that. We are business partners. If we divorce, she will take me to the cleaners," Samuel explained.

Evelyn huffed. "So what does this mean? Am I stuck with her forever?"

Samuel hooked his arm with hers and spoke coaxingly. "Mom, isn't she an obedient daughter-in-law? Doesn't she take care of the house and grandchildren well?"

"What good is an obedient daughter-in-law if she can't bear me grandchildren?" Evelyn scoffed.

Samuel led her into the house, continuing their conversation. "Besides, we have Megan now. Our family line will not die out. She will give birth to a boy."

A smile crept onto Evelyn's face. "You're right. Here, go out and treat Megan," she said, handing Samuel a gift card to a hotel.

Samuel looked surprised. "Where did you get that from?"

"Who cares where it came from? Go and spoil my favorite daughter-in-law. Make sure she conceives a son tonight," Evelyn replied.

Samuel chuckled. "Okay, Mom."

Some time later, Samuel left with Megan. Meanwhile, Evelyn kept a constant eye on the time, as her granddaughter kept bothering her for food and others sought help with their homework. She complained about Quincy's absence, expressing her frustration to her sister-in-law, Audrey. Evelyn tried to call Quincy, but her calls went unanswered. Eventually, she received a message from Quincy stating that she wouldn't be coming back home for the next two nights. Evelyn was taken aback and tried to call her again, but her phone was switched off.

Annoyed, Evelyn turned to Audrey, who couldn't help but laugh. "By the way, the gift card you gave to Samuel and Megan, isn't that what Quincy was awarded last holiday when she won Manager of the Year?"

"What's your point?" Evelyn sneered.

"Well, she probably wouldn't appreciate her husband taking his lover on a romantic date with her own reward," Audrey pointed out, amused.

Evelyn scoffed. "She owes my son that and much more."

Audrey shook her head, still amused by the situation.

Samuel and Megan checked into the luxurious hotel, ready to spend a romantic and memorable evening together. The hotel lobby was adorned with elegant chandeliers and plush furnishings, creating an atmosphere of sophistication and romance. As they made their way to their suite, Samuel couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement coursing through him.

Opening the door to their room, they were greeted by soft candlelight and the sweet scent of rose petals scattered across the bed. The room exuded an ambiance of intimacy and passion. Samuel took Megan's hand, leading her towards the balcony that overlooked the city's sparkling lights.

They stood together, their arms wrapped around each other, as they admired the breathtaking view. The night sky was adorned with twinkling stars, adding to the enchantment of the moment. Samuel leaned in, gently brushing his lips against Megan's, and a wave of desire washed over them.

Inside the luxurious hotel suite adorned with rose petals and candlelight, a bottle of champagne chilled in a bucket of ice, waiting to be savored. Samuel poured two glasses, the bubbles effervescing with promise. They clinked their glasses together, their eyes locked in a passionate gaze.

Samuel gazes into Megan's eyes with adoration. Soft music plays in the background, creating a romantic ambiance.

"You make me feel alive, Megan," Samuel whispered, his voice filled with sincerity.

Megan smiled, her heart fluttering with affection. "And you make me feel like the luckiest woman in the world, Samuel."

He leaned in, brushing his lips against hers, a gentle and passionate kiss. Time seemed to stand still as they lost themselves in the moment.

As they broke the kiss, Samuel cuped Megan's face in his hands. "I want to cherish every moment with you, Megan. You've brought so much joy into my life."

Megan's eyes welled up with tears of happiness. "I feel the same way, Samuel. Being with you feels like a dream come true."

They embraced tightly, their love filling the room with warmth. In this tender moment, nothing else mattered except the love they shared for each other.

As the evening unfolded, they shared laughter, intimate conversations, and lingering touches. Time seemed to stand still as they immersed themselves in each other's company, basking in the love and connection they shared.

The night was a culmination of their love and desire, a moment to escape from the world and revel in the magic of their relationship. As they lay together, wrapped in each other's arms, Megan knew that this romantic night was just the beginning of their journey together. And she was determined by all means to keep the man for herself.

The next morning, as dawn broke and painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, Tina stood outside the Chansa household. Clutching a small vial of powder in her trembling hands, she surveyed her surroundings. To the casual observer, it appeared to be an innocent visit, a family member paying a morning call. But hidden beneath Tina's seemingly harmless façade was a deep darkness, fueled by jealousy and resentment.

With a twisted smile playing on her lips, Tina blew the powder towards the house, her whispered curses carried on the gentle morning breeze. "I curse the day you were born, Quincy... May your life be filled with endless heartache and pain... From this day forward, happiness shall forever elude you..."

Daisy watched from a safe distance, her eyes gleaming with a depth of hatred that surpassed even Tina's. As she observed Tina's malicious actions, a wicked satisfaction twisted her features. The resentment she held towards Quincy ran deep, like a festering wound that refused to heal. In that moment, Daisy's own dark desires intertwined with Tina's, fueling the fire of their shared animosity. A sinister glimmer danced in her eyes, betraying her true nature as she reveled in the pain and suffering that she hoped would befall Quincy.

As the ritual came to an end, Tina made her way back home, slipping into her bed as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.

Later, Daisy sought solace in the soothing embrace of a warm bath, hoping to wash away the tension that lingered within her.

Tina sauntered into Daisy's room, leaning against the doorway with a nonchalant air. "Mom, aren't you going to the hospital ?" she inquired, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

Daisy looked at her daughter, a puzzled expression on her face. "Why would I go to the hospital?"

Undeterred, Tina pressed further, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Mom, is Quincy really our sister?"

Daisy scoffed dismissively. "As far as I'm concerned, you share the same bloodline."

Intrigued, Tina continued, her voice filled with genuine curiosity. "But why do you despise her so deeply? I've noticed the way you look at her, as if you could tear her apart with your bare hands."

Daisy let out a bitter laugh, her eyes reflecting a deep-rooted pain. "It's because she bears a striking resemblance to her grandmother, a woman who detested me with every fiber of her being. When I see Quincy, all I can see is her face, a constant reminder of the torment I endured during my marriage to her son. She turned a blind eye to his abuse, always blaming me for his transgressions. I almost lost my life in his hands..." Daisy's voice wavered, a mixture of pain and resentment tainting her words.

Tina's eyes widened, a mix of shock and sympathy washing over her. "Mom, I had no idea..."

Daisy waved off her daughter's concern, a weary smile gracing her lips. "It's all in the past now, my dear. Your father brought light and healing into my life. But some wounds run deep, and I find it difficult to extend my love to Quincy. She is a constant reminder of the pain I endured."

Tina approached her mother, wrapping her arms around her in a comforting embrace. "I'm sorry, Mom. I never realized..."

Daisy's gaze softened as she looked into her daughter's eyes. "It's alright, my love. We've moved on from those dark days. But some scars never truly fade."

As Tina left the room, Daisy's expression changed, a glint of malice replacing her empathetic facade. Retrieving her phone, she glanced at the desperate messages from her husband and two other daughters. A wicked smirk danced upon her lips. "I hope she suffers..." she whispered under her breath.

Miles and miles away from the city, in a serene and beautifully adorned room, Heather lay soundly asleep, wrapped in the arms of tranquility. Suddenly, she jolted awake, screaming and thrashing about in a state of distress. The piercing cry echoed through the room, carrying with it the weight of a nightmare that had invaded her slumber.

In an instant, the door burst open, revealing a woman slightly older than Heather. With concern etched on her face, she rushed to Heather's side, desperate to soothe her troubled mind. "Heather, calm down... it's not real, it's all just a nightmare," she whispered softly, trying to dispel the lingering fear that gripped her sister.

Heather's eyes darted around the room, still filled with remnants of the terrifying dream. Confusion clouded her features as she struggled to gather her bearings. "Did..." she began, her voice trembling with uncertainty.

The older woman gently interrupted, placing a comforting hand on Heather's trembling shoulder. "Shhh... it was all a bad dream," she reassured, her voice filled with love and reassurance. With each soothing word, she hoped to quell the storm of emotions that raged within her sister's heart.

As Heather's racing heartbeat began to steady, she reached out, her fingertips grazing the edges of a photo frame that lay nearby. Her hand instinctively wrapped around it, bringing the cherished memento close to her heart. Through tear-filled eyes, she traced the contours of a photograph, capturing a moment frozen in time—a tender image of her precious baby, only a month old.

Emotion overwhelmed Heather as she clutched the photograph, her tears mingling with the bittersweet memories it evoked. In that tender moment, she felt an inexplicable connection to her child, an unspoken bond that transcended the barriers of sight. Deep within her soul, a gnawing sense of unease lingered, a premonition that her baby was in danger.

"I feel like my baby is in danger," she whispered, her voice filled with a mixture of fear.

While immersed in an intense workout at the gym, Kiefer's body glistened with sweat as he lifted weights with determination. His focus was momentarily interrupted by the buzz of his phone, indicating a new message. Pausing his exercise, he wiped his brow with a towel and glanced at the screen. It was Ophelia, informing him that Quincy had awakened and was asking for him. She expressed her hope that he would pay her a visit. Just as Kiefer was about to reply, another message notification caught his attention. Furrowing his brow, he read the message, causing his expression to darken.

No longer in the mood for exercising, Kiefer set aside the weights and made his way to the showers to freshen up. Thoughts of Quincy consumed his mind as he quickly dressed and headed straight to the hospital. As he walked through the corridors, he couldn't help but notice the admiring gazes of women around him, but he was accustomed to such attention. Without paying much heed, he walked past them, focused on his destination.

At the hospital…

A sea of vibrant flowers and cards with heartfelt get-well messages, evidence of the outpouring of love and concern for Quincy filled the room.

Ophelia stood by the window, anxiously checking her messages. Christine looked her way." Looks like you are waiting for an important message."

"Hmm…"

"Is it mom?"

Sensing the lingering hope in Christine's voice, Ophelia shot her a disdainful look.

"Don't tell me you still have hope for her," Ophelia retorted, her tone laced with bitterness. "That woman is so cold-hearted when it comes to Quincy. She needs to have her brains checked."

Just then, Quincy was wheeled into the ward by an elderly man donning a guard uniform. Christine's

eyes lit up as she saw her father, and she greeted him with a tender voice.

"Dad, Quincy."

"How are you feeling, Quincy?" Ophelia asked, concern etched on her face.

"I feel a bit dizzy, but I will be fine soon," Quincy replied with determination, despite the lingering effects of her ordeal.

Christine, well-versed in medical matters, offered her guidance. "It's normal, Quincy. You lost a significant amount of blood, and your hemoglobin levels are below seven. Make sure to take your blood supplements and consume iron-rich foods to replenish your blood."

Quincy nodded in acknowledgment, grateful for the support and advice from her sister. Their father, visibly shaken by the recent events, spoke up, his voice filled with a mix of relief and worry. "Don't ever scare me like that again, honey."

Resting her head gently against her father's palm, Quincy reassured him, "It won't happen again, Dad, I promise."

The conversation shifted as Quincy's father inquired about her mother's whereabouts, mentioning that they had been unable to return home from Kabwe the previous day. Ophelia, rolling her eyes, was about to respond when Christine intervened.

"She will be here, Dad," Christine interjected, sparing Ophelia the need to address the issue.

Just then, Kiefer entered the room, catching Ophelia's attention. With a sense of pride and gratitude, she hurried to his side, introducing him to their father. "Dad, this is Quincy's boss. He's the one who saved her. The room and bills are also courtesy of him."

Christine arched an eyebrow at her sister, a silent exchange passing between them.

"It's the least I could do. After all, she got sick at work."

Quincy more than anyone knew that he was not obligated to do any of the things he had done. Filled with gratitude, gazed at Kiefer, silently conveying her appreciation for his unwavering heroic actions.

Mr. Ntele expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Kiefer, promising to find a way to repay him for his kind actions. With a sincere smile, he bid them farewell and left for work.

Kiefer chatted with the sisters for a while before deciding to leave.

Before departing, he requested a private conversation with Ophelia.

Curious about the nature of their conversation, Ophelia raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's up?"

Kiefer handed her his phone, his expression serious. As Ophelia glanced at its contents, her anger began to boil within her.

"When he didn't pick up the call, I had someone look into him," he explained.

The realization of the betrayal captured in the images she saw filled her with a burning rage. "I swear I'm going to kill him."

Amused by Ophelia's fiery response, Kiefer chuckled softly and left, giving her some space to process her emotions. Left alone, Ophelia was soon joined by Christine, who noticed her sister's distress and inquired about what was wrong. In shock, Christine's eyes widened as she glanced at the photos that had elicited such a strong reaction from Ophelia.

"Samuel married a second woman?" Christine exclaimed, unable to conceal her astonishment. "Why didn't Quincy say anything? She must be hurting so much."

Ophelia nodded, her heart aching for her sister's pain. The realization that Quincy had kept this painful secret hidden only amplified their concern for her well-being.

Kiefer stepped out of the hospital, Quincy still on his mind. He quickly reached for his phone and dialed the office number. As he waited for someone to answer, he took a deep breath to gather his thoughts.

"Hello, this is Kiefer. I need to speak with someone in accounting," he said, his voice firm and determined. After a moment of being put on hold, a voice finally came through the line.

"Yes, Mr. Bartley, how can I assist you?" the accounting representative asked.

"I have an urgent matter to address. There was a gift card issued to Quincy from the last awards ceremony. I need you to cancel it immediately," Kiefer instructed, his tone conveying the seriousness of the situation.

"Understood, Mr. Bartley . I will take care of it right away," the representative confirmed.

With that matter taken care of, Kiefer ended the call and drove out of the parking lot.

Meanwhile, Samuel and Megan enjoyed a romantic breakfast together in the hotel room, savoring their last moments of tranquility before returning to the outside world. The intimate setting created a sense of closeness between them, and they relished in each other's presence.

After breakfast, they decided to take a shower together, enjoying the sensuality and intimacy of the shared experience. The warm water cascaded over their bodies as they embraced, deepening their connection and reinforcing their love for one another.

Feeling refreshed and invigorated, Samuel and Megan gathered their belongings and headed down.

Samuel approached the hotel reception desk, ready to check out and conclude their romantic getaway. He smiled, feeling content and fulfilled after the memorable night he had spent with Megan.

The receptionist greeted them with a smile, expressing gratitude for their stay. However, as she began the checkout process, she asked, "Will you be paying in cash or card?"

Confused by the question, Samuel replied, "We'll be using the gift card that was given to us."

The receptionist's face fell, and she hesitated before delivering the disappointing news. "I'm sorry, but Bartley Corp just called to cancel the card. It seems that only the recipient is allowed to use it."

The gift card was originally Quincy's, and now it had been canceled. The situation left him feeling humiliated.

Quincy!

He was sure she had somehow found out about his outing and done all to embarrass him in front of Megan.

As Samuel glanced at the amount, his eyes widened in disbelief. The bill was significantly higher than he had anticipated. Confusion clouded his mind as he tried to make sense of the exorbitant charges.

For a night, they had lived like royalty without batting an eye at the price tags.

His heart pounded in his chest as embarrassment washed over him. How could Quincy do this to him? The thought of having to pay the entire amount out of his own pocket made him feel both livid and humiliated.

Attempting to maintain his composure, Samuel reluctantly handed over his credit card to cover the bill. He felt a mix of frustration and resentment towards his wife for putting him in such an uncomfortable position.

As Samuel completed the payment transaction, he couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment. The perfect ending to their romantic night had been tarnished by this unforeseen turn of events. However, he was determined not to let it overshadow the cherished moments he had shared with Megan.

Resolving to address the issue with his mother later, he took Megan's hand, ready to leave the hotel.

Kiefer drove into the company's parking lot and his eyes immediately caught sight of Keenan, his old friend. But something was off. Keenan was limping, and his face bore fresh wounds. Concern flooded Kiefer's mind as he parked his car and quickly made his way over to him.

"Hey, Keenan," Kiefer called out, his voice filled with genuine worry. "What happened to you, man? Your face looks pretty messed up."

Keenan glanced at Kiefer, his expression guarded and resentful. "Got mugged outside the nightclub," he muttered, his words clipped and tinged with bitterness. "Some guys jumped me. No big deal."

Kiefer's eyebrows furrowed as he took in Keenan's dismissive response. "No big deal? Keenan, you're hurt. That's not something to brush off. Are you sure you're okay?"

Keenan let out a bitter chuckle, his eyes briefly flashing with frustration. "I said I'm fine, alright? It's just a few cuts and bruises."

Kiefer wanted to point out that his injuries didn't look minor at all but held back.

"Did you report to the police?"

"Do you still have hope in them?"

Kiefer chuckled. The saying 'your reputation precedes you' fit the local police so well. If one reported their case to the police and they wanted results, the police expected them to pay them to get things done.

"I know someone in a higher position," Kiefer said as they stood outside the elevator.

"Thanks for the offer. What's done is done."

Kiefer nodded in understanding, his disappointment lingering in the air. "Alright, Keenan. Just know that I'm here for you whenever you're ready. Take care of yourself, man. Do you need some days off?'

"No. Am good."

"Ok."

As they stepped into the elevator, Keenan couldn't help but bring up a topic that had been circulating around town. "You and Quincy are the talk of the town," he commented, trying to gauge Kiefer's reaction.

Kiefer chuckled lightly, not appearing bothered by the gossip. "Rumors come and go, Keenan. It's best not to pay too much attention to them."

Keenan furrowed his brows, feeling the need to emphasize the potential consequences. "You should address the issue. It won't look good if the rumor spreads. Your reputation could be at stake. Why don't you try spending more time with Sierra? It might help dispel these baseless rumors."

Kiefer glanced up from his phone, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Keenan, you know as well as I do that these rumors are unfounded. I don't need to prove anything to anyone. Let them talk."

Keenan nodded, but deep down, resentment swirled within him. He had been beaten up as a consequence of his and Sierra's failed attempts to infiltrate Kiefer's company. The reminder stung, and he couldn't help but feel bitter about it.

The elevator descended, the silence between them growing heavy with unspoken tension. Keenan shifted uncomfortably, his thoughts consumed by the injustice he felt. How could Kiefer brush off the rumors so easily while he suffered the consequences of his and Sierra 's failed mission?

As they reached the top floor, Kiefer continued scrolling through his phone, seemingly unfazed. Keenan, on the other hand, carried the weight of his dark secret, the resentment simmering just beneath the surface.

As Kiefer stepped out of the elevator, his phone buzzed with a new message from Ophelia. Just as he was about to read it, he noticed Keenan's gaze fixated on his phone screen.

There was a flicker of anger in Keenan's eyes, though the emotion was gone as quickly as it had come, leaving Kiefer puzzled.

Kiefer pocketed his phone without reading the message, sensing that something was bothering Keenan.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah. Ophelia?"

"Quincy's sister," Kiefer replied, chuckling, oblivious to the turmoil that churned within Keenan's heart.

"I see."

"I will see you later and take it easy. " Kiefer patted him on the back. Keenan watched him leave.

He couldn't help but wonder if their friendship would withstand the truth and the consequences that lay ahead.

Throughout the day, Ophelia bombarded Kiefer with a constant stream of text messages, updating him on Quincy's day and recovery process. Despite his lack of response, she persisted, reporting even the most mundane details and sending random pictures and videos of Quincy in various situations. Whether it was a picture of Quincy eating her meal or a video of her watching a TV show, Ophelia shared everything, hoping to keep Kiefer informed and involved in Quincy's progress.

Kiefer couldn't help but be amused by Ophelia's relentless efforts. Her determination to keep him in the loop, even with the most trivial updates, was both endearing and slightly overwhelming. He appreciated her concern for Quincy and her desire to make sure he was aware of every aspect of her recovery.

As he glanced at his phone, a small smile tugged at Kiefer's lips. Ophelia's messages provided a glimpse into Quincy's day and brought a sense of familiarity amidst the chaos of his own life. He may not have responded to every message, but he appreciated the effort she put into keeping him updated. It was a testament to their friendship and Ophelia's unwavering support for Quincy.

Meanwhile, Keenan sat nearby, his resentful glare directed at Kiefer. He couldn't understand how Kiefer could find amusement in Ophelia's constant messages. To him, it was a reminder of his and Sierra's failed mission and the consequences they were now facing. Keenan's frustration and bitterness only grew, fueled by his deep-rooted resentment towards Quincy.

Oblivious to his friend's resentment and the potential danger he was unknowingly putting Quincy in, he began looking forward to Ophelia's texts. Although relentless, they were a reminder of the strong bond the sisters shared and the support system Quincy had around her.

***

In the hospital, Christine noticed Quincy repeatedly checking her phone. Concerned, she spoke up, commenting on Quincy's frequent glances at the device. She wondered if Quincy was hoping for a call from their mother.

Quincy looked at her younger sister with a hopeless expression, and Ophelia shared the same sentiment. They both knew that Quincy had long given up on expecting much from their mother, understanding her two-faced character all too well. It was Christine, their youngest sister who never fully accepted their mother's true nature.

"Did she tell you that she's coming?" Ophelia sarcastically questioned.

"She said she has a migraine,"Christine informed them.

Quincy sighed in relief, sharing the news that their mother claimed to have a migraine and wouldn't be able to make it.

Ophelia scoffed and muttered indistinctly under her breath, clearly expressing her frustration with their mother's excuses.

"Let me guess," Ophelia spoke up again, "you're expecting a call from Samuel?"

Quincy nodded, feeling a sense of vulnerability in admitting her anticipation. Ophelia shook her head at her, considering her a hopeless case. Meanwhile, Christine grumbled, reminding them that Samuel was currently on his honeymoon and wouldn't likely be attentive to Quincy's needs.

Ophelia nudged her sister, indicating that she should refrain from being too harsh. Quincy, hurt by the situation, looked down, the pain evident in her eyes. She revealed that Samuel's mother had brought his new wife with her when she returned from the village, and Samuel had shown no surprise at the revelation.

"Don't tell me you actually expected him to protest," Christine exclaimed in disbelief. "That's not in his character."

Quincy nodded sadly. "I know. He didn't even bother to discuss it with me."

Feeling a surge of empathy, the sisters gathered around Quincy, offering their support and assuring her that it was okay to express her emotions and cry.

But Quincy didn't want to cry. Tears would do nothing to help her out in the situation she was in.

***

Upon returning from a church gathering, Evelyn was displeased to find that Quincy had not yet returned home. Fuming with anger, she launched into a tirade about Quincy's laziness and uselessness as a wife.

"What kind of wife is she? Always out and about, never taking care of her responsibilities," Evelyn ranted, her frustration evident in her voice. "She's useless, I tell you! Can't even come home on time."

Megan, standing nearby as she prepared, listened quietly as Evelyn continued her verbal assault on Quincy. Evelyn then turned her attention to Megan, shifting from criticism to praise.

"Megan, my dear," Evelyn said, her tone suddenly changing to one of affection, "please don't tire yourself too much. We don't want our grandson to be born to an exhausted mother. Take care of yourself."

Audrey, Evelyn's sister-in-law, couldn't help but roll her eyes at Evelyn's words. She had grown tired of Evelyn's constant meddling and judgmental attitude.

"You're always finding faults in others, Evelyn," Audrey said, her voice laced with sarcasm. "Why don't you look at yourself for a change?"

Just then, Samuel walked into the room, his presence catching their attention. Evelyn wasted no time in bombarding him with questions about their hotel experience, eager to hear about their romantic night.

Samuel sighed and explained about the cancelled gift card, leaving Evelyn stunned and embarrassed. Audrey couldn't help but burst into laughter at the turn of events, much to the chagrin of both mother and son.

Evelyn's anger flared, and she cursed Quincy and her ancestors, unleashing her frustration at the unfortunate turn of events. Samuel, wanting to escape the tense atmosphere, turned to Megan.

"Let's go, Megan," he said, his voice filled with determination. "We're going out."

Megan nodded, eager to be alone with her new husband. She was loving the life of a pampered princess.

They left the room, leaving Evelyn to simmer in her anger and Audrey to shake her head in disbelief.

***

As the sisters chatted, Samuel sauntered into the room with Megan by his side. Quincy's heart sank, and Ophelia and Christine shot him with annihilating looks. They were just seconds away from tearing him apart, but they knew it was Quincy's fight to handle, and they couldn't get involved even if they wanted to.

Samuel wore a smirk on his face as he looked around the luxurious ward. Quincy couldn't believe her eyes.

"Samuel?"

"Don't you think you're taking this too far?" he questioned, his voice filled with disdain

"What do you mean?" she asked puzzledly.

Samuel waved his hand dismissively. "Fine, you've got my attention. What do you want?" he asked, his tone dripping with arrogance.

Quincy's hurt was evident as she responded, she lifted her hand with the IV with blood transfusion. "You think I did all this because I wanted to get your attention?"

Samuel cleared his throat, somehow embarrassed by her question. He turned to Megan, introducing her as his co-wife. Quincy's heart sank even further, tears streaming down her face.

Meanwhile, Megan smirked secretly and rubbed her tummy, not even bothering to be subtle. Her act pierced Quincy's heart, leaving her feeling broken.

Ophelia couldn't contain her anger any longer and thundered, "Samuel!"

But he ignored her, his gaze fixed on Quincy. He continued, "Since you have failed to give me a child, it's only right that I marry another woman who will fulfill the family's destiny."

Christine couldn't hold back her fury any longer and grabbed a plate of fruits, hurling it at Samuel. Megan quickly blocked the flying missile, but the plate hit her back, causing her to gasp in pain. Samuel immediately turned his attention to her, fussing over her well-being.

Meanwhile, Ophelia pointed to the door, her voice filled with anger as she ordered Samuel to leave. "Get out!"

Samuel, seemingly unaffected by the chaos, looked at Quincy and said, "I hope that now that everything is clear, we can leave in peace. I hope you can treat Megan like your sister."

Christine, unable to contain her rage, gritted her teeth and stabbed a knife into an apple. The tension in the room was palpable, and Quincy couldn't help but feel shattered by the turn of events.

***

Kiefer sat at his desk, typing away, when Keenan limped into the room. Concerned, Keifer looked up at him. "Have you heard from Sierra?" Keenan asked.

Kiefer furrowed his brow, puzzled. "Sierra? No, I haven't."

"She didn't report for work, and she's not answering her phone either," Keenan explained, frustration evident in his voice.

Kiefer shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "Oh."

"Just 'oh'?" Keenan's anger started to show. "Considering your relationship, shouldn't she get more than an unconcerned 'oh'?"

Kiefer paused and met Keenan's gaze with a frown. "She is no different from any other employee."

Keenan scoffed in disbelief. "Well, it's not every other employee that you want to bang."

Kiefer leaned back in his seat, his displeasure apparent. "Looks like you have a lot to say."

"I just find it inconceivable that you would choose a dull, dumb, and ugly woman over a chic and glamorous girl like Sierra," Keenan retorted, his voice nearly shouting.

"Firstly, who I take to bed is none of your damn business. Secondly, I would appreciate it if you addressed Quincy with respect. Thirdly, at no point did I say Sierra and I were an item," Kiefer replied, trying to maintain his composure.

"Everybody knows that you like her," Keenan continued, his frustration growing.

Kiefer frowned, chastising himself for his lack of tact. "Like I said, who I take to bed is my prerogative."

Keenan's lingering fear of Sierra's disappearance being related to Nicholai grew. He had passed by her house earlier, and the state it was in told him things had taken a turn for the worse.

"Aren't you even a little bit worried about her?" Keenan asked, his concern evident.

Kiefer reached for his phone.

Keenan had a sinking feeling. "Who are you calling?"

"The police," Kiefer responded

"No!" My God, you are going to get us all killed.

Kiefer looked at Keenan with raised eyebrows.

Keenan panicked and quickly backtracked. "Maybe she wants some time alone. She might have been affected by everything that happened yesterday. She really had feelings for you. Seeing all the comments about you and Quincy must have affected her."

Kiefer merely raised an eyebrow in response. "I never made her any promises."

"But you led her on," Keenan accused.

"Looks like you're the one who might need some time away. Let me know if you hear from her," Kiefer said dismissively, returning his focus to his work.

***

A few days later, amidst an important meeting, Keenan received a call that made him desperate to find Sierra. He abruptly left, leaving Kiefer in disbelief. Keenan embarked on a journey to a remote fishing village, which took him four hours to reach. When he finally arrived, he felt a wave of relief upon seeing Sierra alive. They sat in the garden, ready to discuss what had happened.

"What happened?" Keenan asked, his concern evident in his voice.

Sierra looked at his healing wounds and sighed. "I see he's been very busy," she remarked, referring to Nicholai.

"We have to escalate our plans," Keenan said, his voice filled with determination. "But it won't be easy."

Sierra raised an eyebrow, curiosity evident in her expression. "Why? What's the challenge?"

"He seems to have fallen for that dull and unglamorouls woman, Quincy," Keenan explained, a hint of frustration in his tone.

Sierra nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. She stared away into nothing. Her eyes devoid of any emotions."Well, then it's either her or us, right?"

Keenan's eyes widened in horror at Sierra's suggestion. "You're not suggesting that we...?"

Sierra looked him straight in the eye. "I am suggesting exactly that. If we want to succeed, we may have to do whatever it takes."

Quincy glanced up from her book, annoyance etched across her features as Aliyana stormed into the living room. The 15-year-old girl had her headphones on, music blaring loudly, and she plopped herself down on the couch without a care in the world. The neglected chores, however, were a stark reminder of her defiance.

Almost a month had passed since she had come back from the hospital. And nothing had been the same since. The rapport she had created with the children over the past few years had disintegrated into nothingness.

Not a day went by without her getting into an altercation with one or all of the kids.

Even the most patient saint could fly off the handle. And it seemed today was no different.

"Aliyana," Quincy called out, her voice firm but tinged with exasperation. "It's your turn to take out the trash and clean your room. You can't keep neglecting your responsibilities."

Aliyana yanked off her headphones, her eyes filled with a mixture of irritation and rebellion. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, ready to challenge Quincy's authority. "Why do I have to do it? Megan does everything for me. She knows I hate chores."

Quincy's frustration simmered beneath her calm exterior. She knew that Megan's constant pampering was cost then in the long run. She took a deep breath, trying to remain composed. "Aliyana, Megan spoiling you isn't doing you any favors. You need to learn responsibility and independence. It's not healthy for her to do everything for you."

A sneer of contempt curled on Aliyana's lips as she looked at Quincy. "You're just a jealous bitch," she spat out, her words filled with venom. "You're mad that Megan pays attention to me instead of you."

Quincy's cheeks flushed with anger, but she refused to let the teenage girl's words get to her. Her voice trembled with frustration as she responded, "This has nothing to do with jealousy. I care about your well-being and want you to grow into a responsible young adult. Megan's pampering is only hindering your development."

Aliyana scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh please, spare me the lecture. You're not even my real mom. You can't tell me what to do."

Quincy's heart sank at the reminder of her stepmother status, but she steeled herself. She refused to back down. Taking a deep breath, she attempted to maintain her composure. "I may not be your biological mother, but I am a part of this family. I care about you, Aliyana. I want what's best for you."

I am the one who has been raising you for the past ten years, Quincy said to herself.

Aliyana's eyes narrowed, anger flickering in her gaze. "Well, I don't need your help or your advice. Stay out of my life. You can't control me."

Quincy felt a mix of hurt and frustration wash over her, but she refused to let it deter her. She stood her ground, her voice unwavering. "I won't stand by and watch you make poor choices. I will continue to guide and support you, whether you like it or not."

The room fell into an uneasy silence, both Quincy and Aliyana locked in a silent battle of wills. It was clear that their differences ran deep and that resolving their conflicts would require time, effort, and understanding. Quincy was determined to provide the guidance and discipline that Aliyana needed, even if it meant facing resistance at every turn.

Megan had been observing the altercation between Quincy and Aliyana from the corner of the room, a small smirk playing on her lips. She had always enjoyed seeing the tension between them, relishing in the power she held as the indulgent stepmother.

As Quincy and Aliyana exchanged heated words, Megan's amusement grew. To her, it was a competition for Aliyana's affection, and she reveled in being the favored one. She had always been keen on spoiling the rebellious teenager, believing that showering her with gifts and leniency would secure her place as the beloved stepmother.

Aliyana's insult towards Quincy only served to feed Megan's satisfaction. She saw it as a validation of her position and an affirmation that Quincy was merely a jealous outsider trying to disrupt their bond. Megan's smirk widened as she witnessed Quincy's frustration, taking pleasure in the discord she had helped create within the family.

Though she knew that she was not doing Aliyana any favors by coddling her and avoiding necessary discipline, the lure of being the favorite stepmother, of having Aliyana's affection solely directed towards her, was too enticing for Megan to resist.

As the argument between Quincy and Aliyana reached its peak, Megan chose to remain on the sidelines, silently reveling in her role as the permissive stepmother. She knew that her actions were detrimental to Aliyana's growth and the harmony of the family, but for now, her own selfish desires for validation and control prevailed.

As Aliyana stormed out, she gave herself a mental note. Once Quincy was out of the picture, she would make sure Aliyana left the house as well..

Later in the evening…

Megan approached Quincy, a faux concern on her face, after witnessing the altercation between Quincy and Aliyana. She wanted to take the opportunity to undermine Quincy's authority and defend her own actions.

"I heard your fight with Aliyana," Megan said with a slight tone of condescension. "I really don't mind doing her chores. You should cut the girl some slack."

Quincy saw through Megan's disguise, her eyes narrowing as she sneered in response. "If you really care about Samuel, you should prioritize the well-being of his children," Quincy retorted sharply. "What you are doing is only going to harm them in the long run."

Megan, unwilling to admit any fault, quickly defended her role. "Maybe you're just too strict, Quincy. After all, they're not your kids," she replied defensively.

Quincy's expression hardened as she held Megan's gaze, her voice firm. "Being a stepparent doesn't excuse you from your responsibilities," she said pointedly. "If you truly cared about their well-being, you would understand the importance of setting boundaries and teaching them responsibility. Pampering them and enabling their rebellion will only hinder their growth and development."

Megan shifted uncomfortably under Quincy's unwavering stare, her defense faltering for a moment. She realized that Quincy was right, that her actions were driven by her own desire for control and acceptance, rather than what was best for the children.

With a hint of frustration, Megan tried to regain her composure. "Well, maybe if you were more understanding and accepting, they wouldn't rebel in the first place," she countered, attempting to deflect the blame onto Quincy.

Quincy's expression softened slightly, a mixture of empathy and determination in her eyes. "It's not about being understanding or accepting, Megan. It's about being a responsible adult and guiding them towards becoming responsible individuals," she replied firmly. "They need structure, discipline, and support, not just someone who panders to their every whim."

When Evelyn returned from her church meeting, she noticed Megan sitting alone in the courtyard, a forlorn expression on her face. Concerned, Evelyn approached her.

"What's wrong, Megan? What happened?" Evelyn asked, her voice filled with worry.

Megan hesitated for a moment before responding, trying to brush off the issue. "Mom, it's fine. It's really nothing," she replied, attempting to downplay the situation.

Evelyn's maternal instincts kicked in, and she refused to accept Megan's dismissal. "Megan, I won't ask again. Tell me what happened," she insisted firmly, her eyes searching Megan's face for the truth.

Megan sighed, realizing she couldn't keep it to herself any longer. "It's about Quincy," she confessed, her voice tinged with sadness. "I feel like she doesn't want me to have a bond with the kids. She's always finding faults in my actions and twisting the facts."

Evelyn's face contorted with anger as she heard Megan's words. The mention of Quincy seemed to ignite a fire within her. "Quincy!" she exclaimed, gritting her teeth. "What did that barren woman do this time?"

Megan recounted the incident, carefully selecting the details that portrayed Quincy in a negative light, emphasizing her own innocence and good intentions.

Evelyn's anger reached its boiling point as she stormed into the house, determined to confront Quincy. She didn't hold back, her voice filled with fury as she shouted at her. The tension between them escalated, and in a moment of heated rage, Evelyn's hand connected with Quincy's cheek, delivering a resounding slap.

Quincy recoiled from the sudden impact, stunned by the force behind Evelyn's actions. She touched her cheek, her eyes wide with disbelief and hurt. She tried to speak, but Evelyn's words cut her off.

"You're a jealous wench!" Evelyn spat, her voice filled with venom. "I won't allow you to destroy the bond Megan has created with the kids. They love her, and she loves them. You have no right to interfere!"

Tears welled up in Quincy's eyes, a mixture of pain and confusion washing over her. She never intended to come between Megan and the children, and the accusation struck her deeply.

Megan, witnessing the altercation between her mother in law and Quincy, smirked, enjoying every minute of it. It's only when the argument reached its climax did she forward to intervene, trying to diffuse the situation. "Mom, please calm down," she pleaded, her voice laced with concern. "We can find a way to work things out. Let's not let this escalate any further."

Evelyn's anger slowly subsided as she looked at Megan's worried face. She took a deep breath, her emotions still raw but slightly more under control. "Fine," she said, her tone still tense. "But she needs to understand that you are part of this family too, and your bond with the kids is important."

Quincy, still reeling from the slap and Evelyn's accusations, chuckled in disbelief, tears streaming down her face.

The atmosphere in the house remained heavy, with unresolved tensions hanging in the air. It was clear that their family dynamic had been disrupted, and they might never go back to what they once were.

Later…

Evelyn waited impatiently in the yard for Samuel's return. As soon as he walked through the door, she approached him with a stern expression on her face.

"Samuel, we need to talk," she said firmly. "You have to put your wife under control. She's causing a rift in this family, and it needs to stop."

Samuel sighed, feeling the weight of the situation. He glanced at Evelyn, his frustration evident.

How he wishes he could come home to some peace and quiet. Over the past few weeks, the moment he got home, he had to solve one or two issues. All involving Quincy.

He went in search of Quincy and found her in the room she had been relegated to since Megan took over her marital room. She was working on some papers.

"Do you have to be so difficult?" He asked in lieu of a greeting.

"Do you even know what happened?" she asked, her voice tinged with exasperation. "Have you bothered to ask about my side of the story?"

Samuel waved off her questions dismissively. "It doesn't matter. Quincy, you need to pull your act together. Your behavior is unbecoming, and it's affecting everyone in this household."

"Samuel!" Quincy interjected, her voice laced with anger.

Samuel turned to Quincy, his tone filled with frustration. "Quincy, can't you see that this situation is causing too much tension? Megan may be younger and less experienced, but that doesn't mean you should be difficult and refuse to find common ground."

Quincy's eyes burned with fury as she listened to Samuel's words. She felt hurt and misunderstood. "Is there no end to your nasty surprises?" she retorted, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and hurt.

Samuel's expression softened, and he reached out to gently touch Quincy's arm. "Quincy, I know this is hard, but please try to understand. We need to find a way to peacefully coexist with Megan. It doesn't mean we're dismissing your feelings, but we have to find a way to make this work."

Quincy pulled away from Samuel's touch, her anger boiling over.

"Get some rest," he said, his voice calm but firm.

Quincy watched Samuel walk away, her fury swirling within her. She felt the weight of the situation, the frustration of being misunderstood and the overwhelming pressure to conform.

The tension in the house remained palpable, and the strained relationships within the family seemed to deepen with every second that went by.

The next morning was a sunny weekend, and Quincy had made plans to take the kids out for a fun outing at a local farm. She thought it would be a great opportunity for them to learn about animals and enjoy some fresh air. As she excitedly shared her plans with Samuel and Evelyn, Megan chimed in with a suggestion.

"You know, instead of the farm, why don't we take the kids to the amusement park?" Megan proposed, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips.

Samuel looked at Megan and then turned to Quincy, his voice filled with uncertainty. "What do you think, Quincy? The kids might enjoy the amusement park more."

Quincy felt a pang of disappointment, but she understood that compromising and considering different options were essential for a harmonious family life. She tried to mask her disappointment and put on a smile. "If that's what everyone wants, then I guess the amusement park it is," she replied, her voice tinged with resignation.

Evelyn nodded in agreement, siding with Megan. "Oh, the kids will have a blast at the amusement park. It's such a thrilling and memorable experience for them," she chimed in, her excitement evident.

Megan couldn't help but smirk at her perceived victory, relishing in the fact that her suggestion had been chosen. Quincy noticed Megan's smirk but chose to remain composed, not wanting to let her frustration show.

"Alright, then. Let's make it a fun day at the amusement park," Quincy said, her tone neutral.

The decision was made, and the family set off to enjoy a day of thrilling rides and entertainment at the amusement park. Although Quincy's initial plans had been altered, she hoped that the day would still bring joy and bonding moments for everyone.

Deep down, Quincy couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness that her desires had been overlooked, but she resolved to make the most of the day and focus on the happiness of the kids. After all, their joy was her ultimate goal, even if it meant setting aside her own preferences for the time being.

As Quincy sat in the solitude of the house, her mind was consumed with thoughts and reflections on the turbulent events that had unfolded in her life. The weight of the recent conflicts and challenges pressed heavily upon her. Nothing seemed to be working out as she had envisioned, and she felt overwhelmed with a sense of helplessness.

The idea of leaving lingered in her mind, whispering temptations of escape from the turmoil that surrounded her. She knew deep down that it might be the right decision for her well-being, a chance to reclaim her happiness and peace of mind. Yet, a part of her hesitated, clinging to the hope that things could still improve, that there might be a chance to mend what was broken.

Just as Quincy was lost in her thoughts, the sound of the front door opening interrupted her reverie. Her heart skipped a beat as her sisters, Ophelia and Christine, entered the house. A mixture of relief and apprehension washed over her, unsure of how they would perceive her struggles or what advice they might offer.

Ophelia, always perceptive, immediately noticed the heaviness in Quincy's eyes. She embraced her sister, a silent reassurance that she was there to listen and support. Christine, ever the pragmatic one, offered a warm smile and a comforting presence. In their presence, Quincy felt a glimmer of hope and a sense of belonging.

They gathered in the living room, creating a safe space for Quincy to share her burdens. With tears streaming down her face, Quincy poured out her heart, recounting the conflicts, the hurtful words, and the constant feeling of being trapped. Her sisters listened intently, offering words of encouragement and understanding.

Ophelia spoke first, her voice filled with compassion. "Quincy, we've seen how much you've endured, how tirelessly you've fought for your happiness. But there comes a point when you have to prioritize yourself, your well-being."

Christine chimed in, her tone filled with determination. "Leaving may be scary, but it doesn't mean you're giving up. It means you're choosing yourself, your happiness, and your peace of mind. You deserve that, Quincy."

"Sis, you have to reflect on your self worth and the importance of your own happiness," Ophelia pointed out.

"Ophie is right, fighting for one more day shouldn't mean sacrificing your own well-being. It means finding the balance between holding on and letting go, between standing up for yourself and prioritizing your own happiness."

Quincy soaked in their words, her heart swelling with gratitude for her sisters' unwavering support. Their love and understanding provided her with the strength she needed to make the difficult decisions ahead. Though the path forward was uncertain, Quincy knew that she was not alone in her journey.

Three more months. I will give Samuel that long. If this goes on, am throwing in the towel, Quincy thought with renewed sense of determination

as they embraced each other tightly.

Monday arrived with a heavy load of work for Quincy. As she sat in a meeting, trying to focus on the discussion at hand, her phone unexpectedly began to vibrate with a series of messages. Curiosity piqued, she discreetly glanced at her phone and was taken aback by what she saw. The messages revealed charges at a baby store and purchases of maternity clothing. Quincy's heart sank as she realized that it was Samuel's mother, along with Megan, who were indulging in an extravagant shopping spree.

Feeling a mix of disbelief and frustration, Quincy couldn't comprehend their actions. After all, those savings were meant for their future, not for lavish spending. She swiftly dialed Samuel's number, hoping for an explanation. However, his response was disappointingly dismissive, as if their shopping spree was of no consequence. Quincy's disbelief deepened as she considered the exorbitant prices they were paying, as if money were no object to them.

Unbeknownst to Quincy, Kiefer and Keenan had been discreetly observing her reaction from the sidelines. Keenan, always eager to provoke, took the opportunity to taunt her. "Mrs. Ntele, is there something more important than the meeting?" he sneered, relishing in her embarrassment. The entire room seemed to shift their attention towards Quincy, intensifying her discomfort.

Realizing that her frustration was palpable, Quincy swiftly apologized to the meeting attendees. However, just as she attempted to regain her composure, another message chimed on her phone. Her eyes widened in shock at what she saw. The situation was spiraling out of control, and Quincy struggled to find the right words to express her disbelief and anger.

Kiefer, noticing her distress, decided to intervene. "If there is something you need to attend to urgently, you may do so," he offered, sensing Quincy's need to address the urgent matter.

"Thank you, sir," Quincy replied gratefully, quickly excusing herself from the meeting. Outside the meeting room, she dialed the bank, urgently requesting them to freeze their joint account. It was a difficult decision, but she felt it was necessary to protect their savings and regain control of their financial stability.

As Quincy took a deep breath, she couldn't help but feel a mix of anger, betrayal, and determination. She refused to be a passive bystander while their hard-earned money was squandered. It was time to take matters into her own hands and assert herself in the face of blatant disregard for their shared financial goals.

Though her heart was heavy with disappointment and a sense of unease, Quincy was resolved to confront the situation head-on.

Sierra and Keenan exchanged worried glances after the meeting, their panic evident in their expressions.

Kiefers' unknowing favoritism towards Quincy was putting their lives in danger. They knew they had to act quickly to carry out their plan. Sierra suggested that they do away with Quincy that very day.

If they succeed, Sierra would take advantage of Kiefer's vulnerability could be the perfect opportunity to offer her support and get closer to him.

"Keenan, we can't waste any more time. We need to execute our plan today," Sierra whispered urgently.

Keenan nodded, his mind racing with thoughts of their scheme. "You're right, Sierra. We have to strike when the iron is hot. And with Kiefer in a vulnerable state, he might be more receptive to your support."

Sierra's eyes gleamed with a mix of determination and calculation. "Exactly. Once he's grief-stricken, I can be there for him, offering comfort and understanding. He'll see me as a shoulder to lean on, and slowly, we'll grow closer."

Keenan's brows furrowed slightly as he considered the potential consequences. "But Sierra, we have to be careful. We can't let our intentions be too obvious. We need to tread lightly and ensure our actions are subtle."

Sierra smirked, a cunning glint in her eyes. "Oh, Keenan, don't worry. I know exactly how to play this game. Kiefer won't suspect a thing."

With their plan set in motion, Sierra and Keenan prepared themselves for the intricate dance of manipulation and deceit, ready to take advantage of the situation and use it to their advantage.

Later that night, in the dimly lit living room, the atmosphere was tense as Quincy confronted Samuel about their reckless spending. Her frustration and anger were palpable as she looked him straight in the eyes.

"Samuel, this has to stop! We can't keep living like this, spending money as if it grows on trees," Quincy exclaimed, her voice tinged with exasperation.

Samuel scoffed, looking unbothered. "What's the big deal, Quincy? We have enough money to cover our expenses."

Quincy clenched her fists, trying to keep her emotions in check. "Enough money? We had a joint account, and you and your mother were splurging on unnecessary luxury items! Do you realize that? We were supposed to save for our future, for our family, and you just let her drain our account without a second thought!"

"She's my mother, Quincy! She wanted to buy some things for the kids and herself. What's the harm in that?" Samuel retorted, his tone defensive.

"The harm is that you didn't even consult me, Samuel! We're supposed to make financial decisions together as a couple, but you just handed her our hard-earned money without a care!" Quincy's frustration was reaching its peak.

"She needed it, and I trust her judgment," Samuel replied dismissively.

Quincy's eyes welled up with tears of anger and hurt. "Trust her judgment? What about trusting me? Am I not your wife, your partner? Shouldn't you trust me enough to discuss these things before making such significant decisions?"

Samuel looked away, seemingly avoiding the intensity of her gaze. "Quincy, it's not a big deal. We have more than enough money, and besides, Megan was just trying to help."

Quincy shook her head, her voice trembling with emotion. "It is a big deal, Samuel! We have responsibilities, a future together, and you're just brushing it off as if it's nothing! Your lack of responsibility towards our finances and your disregard for our partnership hurt me deeply."

"Well, maybe if you weren't so uptight about money, things would be easier," Samuel retorted, his frustration starting to match hers.

The room fell into a heavy silence as Quincy stared at her husband, hurt and disappointment etched on her face.

It was then that her phone buzzed, and her heart skipped a beat as she read the message from Zoe. "Accident. Hospital. Hurry." Panic surged through her veins, overriding any rational thought. Without a second thought, she grabbed her keys and rushed out the door, her mind filled with worry and fear. The drive to the hospital felt like an eternity as Quincy's thoughts raced, praying that Zoe would be alright.
