“we are very sorry, we tried our best but it was too late” the doctor said and left them there. Oscar face turned from a one to a very deadly expression and Joyce trembled taking a step away from him, she quickly ran out of the waiting hall and went out of the hospital then seeing a quiet spot nearby, she bent down and cried her eyes out. She has just lost her dad… no her step dad to be precise and Oscar just lost his father but the main reason why she is crying is because she knows she is actually done for. Now that there is no one to support and protect her then Oscar is going to make life a living hell for her. She cried the more also remembering how her mother has dead a day after getting married to Oscar’s father.

Joyce received her mother’s call four years ago when she was still in school to meet her at an hotel and there she introduced her to one of the richest man in their state then she told her they are getting married. The news came as a rude shock to Joyce as she wonder what was wrong with her mother. Why would she want to get married to someone like that after years of staying single? The main question she has is how on earth her mother get to know someone like him. Although Joyce kicked against it many times ad even threaten to leave her mother but she still went on with the wedding and got married to him although it was a low-key wedding and no one knows about it then the next day, she was coming out of her room when some guy came to her and force her into a car parked nearby then informed her that her stepfather has requested for her to be taken back home. Joyce fought against it but they were too powerful and she found herself getting into the plane and going back to H city but to her surprise, she was taken to a burial ceremony straight from the airport only to discover that her mother was being buried. Joyce refused to believe it until the coffin was opened and she saw it for herself, she cried her eyes out and refuse to let them bury her.

“when she saw her mum last she was very okay, for her to even think of planning a wedding and getting married” she thought bitterly and regretted fighting with her, she wasn’t even there at her last moment

After that, everything start to happen in an hurry and she couldn’t even protest against it. Her step-dad explained to her about her mother’s sickness which lead to her death. They had thought that she will live for another a year more but unfortunately she didn’t make it and she wrote a letter for her asking her to stay with her stepfather. Not wanting to disobey her mother’s last wish she agreed to live there and that is when she met with Oscar. Oscar is the only son of her step father and he had just finished his studies abroad and only got to know about the whole thing when he gets back. Although Joyce didn’t get to know much about him throughout the time they spent together as a family but one thing she knows is that he really hates her mother Just like Joyce, he also finds it very difficult to accept their parent’s marriage and complains about everything finding fault in her all the time and wont let a chance pass by for him to insult her and call her a gold digger…

Joyce got back home and entered into the living, she had thought Oscar would have already give an order not to allow her in but it happens he still doesn't have her time so before he does, she had better leave the house to avoid any trouble. Although she doesn't have much to take care of herself at least she has their former house to return to. After packing all her things, she throw the chain her step father left her and walk out of the room, looking around the house where she has lived for the past four years, she feels reluctant to leave but then she is finally free from her mother’s wish and can now start to go and start a new life somewhere else

Just as she got to the door, she bump into Oscar and almost fell out of fear

“you scared me!” she said after recovering from the surprise

“where are you going to with that bag?” he asked softly

Joyce look up to him more surprised. This is the first time he will ever speak to her in such soft manner without pushing her out of the way and yelling at her

“am.. am just.. about to leave” she replied stuttering

“where are you leaving to?” he asked again closing the door after himself

“am leaving since dad is no longer here” she answered more firmly. Oscar looked at her and remove his phone from his pocket not lifting his eyes away from her

“make sure my sister doesn't leave this house without my permission and knowledge also, get two guards to be with her at all times” he said to the phone and left her front then walk in to the wine cellar, pick a bottle and poured some for himself. Joyce stare at his back as he leaves and watch his action astonished

“what does he means by that phone call? She is not allowed to leave the house? Guards? What on earth is going on?” she wondered and walk over to him slowly

“what are you trying to do? I know you hate me being here so why don’t you just let me go now?” she asked a little sacred. Oscar left up his face to look at he again and turn his face away like he didn’t hear her and continue with his drink. Joyce waited for a few seconds for him to reply but he just continue sipping at his wine slowly irritating her

“do you think I stole something from the house? don’t worry I might be a gold digger’s daughter but I will never take what is not mine I dropped everything dad bought for me inside and only took with me what is mine” she said again thinking that might be the reason he is hesitating. Oscar stood up and walk up to her which sacred her and she move backward a little bit

“go back to your room sister if you know what is good for you and also remember to eat something I wouldn't be home tonight” he said and walk away out of the house.

“sister? Did he just call her sister?” Joyce wondered. He is even concerned that she hasn’t eaten, did something possess him after his father’s death? Come to think of it, he also called her sister earlier

“whatever Joyce forget it, am sure he is like that because of his dad. When he comes back he will surely throw me out. I better not unpack my stuff and just wait for his drama” she said and return to her room to catch some sleep.
