Chelsea

Serena alighted from her taxi tiredly; the journey had taken quite a toll on her and was completely exhausted. She took her sweet time in walking to her sister’s front door. Chelsea her sister, was her only living relative that Serena had after the demise of their parents and was the one Serena turned in her dire state. Serena’s somewhat aloof personality contributed to her lack of friends hence she was the only one Serena could go to as she had nowhere else to go to.

The door was flung open wide as Serena approached it and she could see her sister had stepped out of it and was running towards her direction. On seeing her sister Serena stopped in her tracks as she felt the emotions which she had tried so much to repress come up to resurface again.

Chelsea on reaching her sister flung her arms about her before pulling Serena into her arms to give her the tightest hug she could muster with tears streaming down her cheeks.

Vicky who was worried at the lack of response from Serena after their last conversation decided to call Chelsea first thing in the morning and confessed to her everything that had happened from Serena’s groom being a no show at his own wedding to him running away with Bebe into the sunset.

Chelsea, overwrought with anger and emotion had immediately called Serena to inquire about her well being but after calling multiple times without any answer had given up and decided to wait, that was until she saw Serena walking towards her front door from her bedroom window.

Serena hugged Chelsea back with just as much fierceness. She was her rock now and was all she had at the moment. Chelsea understood how badly her sister was hurting even though there wasn’t a single tear on her face and wished to the heaven’s that she could make the people who had hurt her sister pay.

“You were right Chelsea.” Serena whispered softly into her sister’s ear. “You were right all along.”

These were the only words which Serena could muster as the pain in her heart had made it quite impossible for her to do so.

Chelsea remembered the incident that caused a separation between her and her sister like yesterday.

She had walked into Empire events excitedly wanting to give her sister the good news of her being offered a job at one of the most prestigious companies in the country. She had been waiting for the result of her interview for over a month now and had completely given up on the company entirely when she received an email from them. She still couldn’t believe that she had been selected amongst the numerous candidates that had applied for the job who she believed they were far more qualified than she was. It was truly a dream come true and she couldn’t wait to share it with her sister.

Chelsea remembered seeing Melvin’s and Bebe’s car parked side by side in a corner on entering the premises and wondered if they were around. Chelsea had never really cared much for Melvin as she had always felt deep in her heart that Serena could do much better and as for Bebe, she had never spent sufficient time to form an opinion of her but from their brief encounters she wasn’t exactly her biggest fan.

Chelsea headed to the bathroom to repair her makeup that had been smudged by the heat when she saw Melvin and Bebe locking lips. She stood there watching them, completely rooted to the ground before calling to their attention.

“What the hell do you two think you’re doing?” she bellowed in anger.

The two culprits froze in each other’s arms before separating on realizing that they had an audience.

“You bastard! It isn’t even up to two months since you’ve been engaged to Serena and you go ahead to this and not with just anyone but with her best friend!”She said as she tried to convince herself not to give the both of them a tight slap. “Answer me Melvin, are you crazy?”

“Chelsea wait we can explain.” Melvin stepped forward trying to reach for Chelsea.

“Don’t touch me! You were supposed to be her fiancé! You were supposed to protect her! She trust you!” Chelsea said angrily.

“You best be sure that Serena will hear of this. She has to know just exactly the type of scum she’s engaged to” Chelsea said before spinning on her heels.

She drove straight to Serena’s apartment in a haste trying to beat the traffic. On getting there she discovered that there was no one there so Chelsea had tried to call Serena several times but was not able to reach her. She decided to text her about what she had seen and promised to see her the next day.

She headed straight to Serena’s apartment early the following day to tell her of her findings but Serena didn’t believe her.

“You have got to believe me Serena!” Chelsea cried with all her might.

“I saw them holding each other in a very tight embrace and don’t give me that crap about him trying to comfort Bebe because I know what I had seen and there was nothing platonic about it.” Chelsea insisted.

“No Chelsea. You are getting it all wrong. I myself had accosted Melvin at your suspicious findings and he told me the truth. Bebe at the time had been heartbroken because of her breakup with Kurt and Melvin was trying to do was comfort her. Serena replied her anxious to prove her fiancé’s innocence

“Okay, but why would he try and comfort her? After all from what you’ve told me and judging from what I've seen, those two aren’t exactly the best of friends.” Chelsea asked still not buying the story for even a single second.

“Oh that?” Serena had asked with a smile.

“Yes that!” Chelsea replied, completely over her sister’s one worded response.

“Recently Melvin and Bebe have been trying to get along for my sake. Now I can spend at least two hours in their company without their constant bickering.”

“I don’t know Serena. This all seems very fishy to me.” Chelsea responded, the concern clear in her voice.

“Nothing is fishy Chelsea. You just don’t want to admit that for the first time in history the great Chelsea Asher was wrong. Why should I doubt the both of them? Melvin is my fiancé and Bebe’s my best friend remember? I’ve known Melvin for years now and Bebe even longer so why would they try to deceive me? Besides Melvin loves me very much and would never lie to me lest of all cheat on me, I trust him very much and for the record…I believe him.” Serena said, her eyes filled with love.

“Fine then if you don’t wish to believe me, I see no point of my attending your wedding. I’d rather go away than watch you get married to that bastard and make an absolute fool of yourself.” Chelsea said with indignation.

“Suit yourself; you’re the one who is going to miss out.”

“I really hope that you don’t come to regret this Serena.” Chelsea said taking one last look at her sister sadly before heading out the door.

The rumble of thunder snapped Chelsea out of her flashback with a sad look on her face.

If only Serena had believed her…..
