Chapter 13 He Was Innocent
Joshua took out his cell phone, browsed the call log, and showed it to everyone. She called him 20 minutes ago.
Joshua dialed the number, and Eliza's phone rang immediately.
"See? I told no lies. Eliza asked me out and now tries to frame me."
He was not stupid! Secret meetings were indecent at best, and sexual harassment was a crime.
Though Eliza didn't call him for a private meeting, it didn't matter. He was sure that Eliza dared not speak the truth.
He would stick to his story and discredit her.
Compared with Eliza's sobs and ashen face, his evidence was more convincing. In an instant, public opinions shifted in favor of Joshua. When people looked at Eliza again, their eyes were thick with sarcasm and contempt.
"Turns out a bitch wants to clear her name. The Andersons suck in their family education."
"Ha-ha, maybe Joshua didn't serve her well, and the unsatisfied woman accuses him...."
Some people started to say nasty things.
While Eliza was still crying, William tapped the ground with his cane, "Enough, back to your room."
His face ghastly pale, he darted a fierce look at his granddaughter. Before this, the banquet was so perfect, and he had an unprecedented sense of accomplishment. However, the scoundrel brought him down the clouds in front of so many people.
Ouch!
It hurt like hell!
The fall was too heavy!
The banquet ended hastily, and Jack saw off the guests. Only Mrs. Ford and her son stayed.
In the hall, Amaya sat on the sofa while Joshua and his mother sat across from her.
Mrs. Ford was a genial woman. On the one hand, she knew that it was not all her son's fault; on the other hand, Joshua indeed did something improper as a guest.
"Mrs. Anderson, what do you think we should deal with the matter? First of all, I need to apologize to you on behalf of my son." Mrs. Ford said nicely as she really wanted to fix the problem.
As her counterpart conceded, Amaya immediately held her head high, "Mrs. Ford, I'm not judging, but you should know about your son. I'm sure he coerced Eliza under the effect of alcohol."
"But your daughter called...."
Amaya cut her short.
"Get over the phone call; it doesn't mean anything. Eliza did call your son but mentioned nothing about meeting him in the back garden. If you don't believe me, let's call the police and find out who the bad person is."
Facing her aggressive attitude, Mrs. Ford once again suspected her son. After all, the scoundrel stirred up trouble every day.
"Mrs. Anderson, don't call the police. We can settle this in private." Mrs. Ford pleaded.
His mother's humble attitude angered Joshua.
Apparently, he was set up by the Andersons. Hailey knocked him out. How was he supposed to coerce and molest Eliza?
He was innocent!
"Call the police; I'm not afraid. I didn't touch Eliza. I'm innocent. Let's go to the police station right now!" Joshua held his head high.
"Shut up! Look at the mess you caused." Mrs. Ford berated her son in dismay. Why did she have such a troublesome son?
Joshua looked at his mother. He didn't do anything, but his mother wouldn't believe him.
He stood up and walked off without looking back.
