Chapter 7 Playing Pranks on Her
After ten days of their marriage, Zoey had yet to sleep with her husband, which frustrated her.
She did not want to be a nominal couple with Charlie.
"What are you reading?"
"Give it back to me!"
"Intimacy: A Bridge to the Soul... What is it about?"
Zoey tried to grab the book, but she was too short of reaching it. Finding her movements a bit hilarious, she stopped and glared at Robert Wells.
"Robert, give me the book!" There were many students around, and Zoey lowered her voice to avoid attracting attention.
As Robert skimmed through the book, his brow furrowed. After a while, he withdrew his eyes from the book and asked, "Are you desirous of men?"
The book was about gender relations. Apart from those "educational films," Zoey wanted to learn something to win Charlie's heart.
"It's none of your business!"
When Robert's attention was distracted, Zoey took the book back, shoved it into her bag, and planned to go home early.
"Wait!"
Robert followed her out of the large classroom, but Zoey ignored him and went to the carport to get her bike.
The campus of A university was beautiful. In the autumn, it was brilliant with yellow and red. Ginkgo leaves drifted down on Zoey's shoulders.
"Zoey, wait for me!" As Robert caught up on his bike, Zoey rode faster after turning her head to glance at him.
The campus exit led to a tarmac path, which was the only way to the cafe where Zoey worked. Zoey sped up to shake off Robert.
"Ah..."
Suddenly, her head was covered by a paper bag. The unexpected darkness panicked her as her bike snaked down the path. Zoey rode off the path and fell into a ditch, her pants and shoes wet and her hands scuffed.
As she got the paper bag off her head, Zoey saw Robert standing not far away.
Looking at Robert, who had anger written all over his face, Zoey scolded, "Robert, you're insane!"
"Are you thirsty for a man?" Robert asked resentfully as if he was Zoey's husband.
In the late autumn, it was easy to catch a cold. The possibility increased as her shoes were wet. Zoey got up from the gutter and picked up her bike, which was luckily not broken.
Robert was a person whom you gave an inch and would take a yard. Zoey could only blame her own hard luck and ride away.
As Begonia Villa was a bit remote, Zoey took two bus trips to get home.
Charlie was playing with his dog, a white and pretty Samoyed. But Zoey could not share Charlie's fun.
She was bitten by a dog when she was little, leaving a crescent-shaped mark on her butt. Since then, she had been afraid of the dog, no matter how small it was.
"Why are you home so early?"
In the courtyard, Charlie sat by the water pond, looking at the last few lotuses.
"Are you hurt?" Charlie asked with a frown.
Zoey came over and furiously exaggerated Robert's prank.
"He's been enjoying pranks on me since we were kids, which often make me wonder if I killed his whole family, took his woman away, or dug up his family's ancestral graves in my last life," Zoey said resentfully.
"He likes you!" After hearing Zoey's statement, Charlie said with certainty.
Zoey opened her eyes wide in disbelief, muttering, "How is that possible? It makes more sense that he hates me."
Seeing Zoey's shock, Charlie seriously explained to her.
"Boys in adolescence are all somewhat mischievous. They always do something to attract the attention of the girl that they like. If your male classmate often makes some pranks to scare you, then he must like you."
Zoey frowned, asking in a cold voice, "What do you mean?"
"I mean that compared with me, your peers are much more suitable for you. I'm old, and I don't like you. Why don't you try dating some of them?"
"Charlie, I've never met a man who hopes his wife to date with others!"
Charlie was too embarrassed to say anything.
