Chapter 16 The Hospital (Part I)
Worrying that she would hurt herself while struggling, Danny had no choice but to hold Camille's hands and tightly pressed her against his chest.
Camille let out a painful moan.
As Danny's self-constraint faded away, he shouted, "Drive faster!"
Edward hurried to speed up the car, "Yes!"
As the car jolted due to the sharp acceleration, Camille hit Danny's sensitive part.
Danny grunted. Edward peeked in the rearview mirror and asked, "Mr. Wilson, should we go back to the villa and have Dr. Baker come over?"
As Edward's question diverted Danny's attention, Camille freed her hands and instinctively touched Danny's exposed cool skin, mumbling, "Hot..."
Danny hopelessly looked at Camille, who had already lost her mind and kept touching him.
Danny was almost driven crazy, as he could not stop her by force for fear of hurting her. And Camille's words, "do not make me hate you," echoed in his mind.
He was hesitant about what to do. At last, Danny struck her in the neck with a hand slash, and Camille finally passed out.
After confirming that Camille was okay, Danny moved his eyes at the rearview mirror and snapped, "Go to the nearest hospital!"
The agitated look never seen before on the face of Danny frightened Edward, who did not dare to ask or look at him again but attentively drove to the Silk River Hospital.
What happened after that became a blur in Camille's memory.
She had thought that the horrible event on the site would be yet another nightmare haunting her like the cliff incident.
But this time, Camille dreamed of someone constantly stroking her forehead with one hand to calm her down.
It was reminiscent that when she was sick as a child, her mother, Bonnie, tended to her at her bedside.
The difference was that it was a reproving but proud male voice in her dream, "Miss Davis, don't be reckless again."
When Camille woke up, the doctor was checking in on her, and her name, Emily Baker, was written on her work tag around her neck.
It was a private ward. After finishing the examination, Emily closed the door behind her and stood by Camille's bedside, explaining, "Last night, you were injected with drugs and are now in the hospital."
Camille appreciated, "Thank you, Dr. Baker."
At her words, Camille found her voice hoarse.
Emily continued, "Do you need me to help you call the police?"
Camille replied in confusion, "What?"
"You were injected with drugs, and the man who brought you here looked vicious. Do you need me to call the police for you?"
The man who brought her here... Danny?
He looked vicious... Was not he always light-hearted? How did he look fierce?
Did Emily misunderstand that Danny was the one who drugged her?
Emily interpreted Camille's silence as acquiescence. She added, "Do you have any difficulties that compel you to stand him? If so, I can help you."
Knowing that she was at the hospital, Camille somehow felt her eyes watery.
She wanted to explain but did not know where to start. After a while of hesitation, she said, "It's my... bad luck."
At her words, Emily misunderstood again. She reached out to rub Camille's forehead with her thumb. "Girl, never think there is only one way out."
