Chapter 13 Getting Deceived Again (Part I)

When Camille woke up, she found that she was in an unfamiliar place.

After a quiver with fear, Camille lifted the quilt, finding that she was in neat pajamas and felt no pain.

Camille moved to the floor-to-ceiling window and opened the curtains. In the courtyard downstairs, Danny was talking to Edward.

Was she in Danny's house?

Both of them had their backs to Camille. All of a sudden, Danny seemed to feel her sight. He turned around and looked up, meeting with Camille's eyes.

They looked at each other for a moment without greeting. After a while, Danny turned back to continue the conversation with Edward.

Camille closed the curtains and observed her surroundings.

The room was spacious and simple. On a clothes rack next to a bedside table was a dark jacket which looked like the one Danny wore when they met outside the Soaring Group yesterday.

Camille searched the pocket of the jacket and found her glasses.

Camille took them away and noticed a stack of papers on the bedside table. Out of curiosity, she cast a cursory glance at them. When she saw the contents, all of her attention was attracted.

It was a comprehensive investigation report about companies of the Davis Family. Part of the contents was even beyond Camille's knowledge.

As she read it for a while, there was a knock on the door. Camille hurried to put the file back and sit on the bed.

A middle-aged maid, clothes in hand and hair in a bun, entered and introduced herself, "Miss Davis, I'm Mrs. Carter, the housekeeper."

Mrs. Carter continued slowly, "This is Mr. Wilson's room. Since there are barely any guests to stay overnight, the guest rooms are untidy. Last night Miss Davis was sleepy, so the master had to put Miss in his bedroom and waited for the guest room to be cleaned up. It was me who changed your clothes. These are the washed clothes of yours."

It was considerate of Mrs. Carter to save Camille from being embarrassed because she was already asleep when Danny took her here.

Camille took her clothes, "I see, thank you, Mrs. Carter."

"You are welcome, Miss Davis. Please come downstairs for breakfast."

"I need to wash up first."

"Okay."

After Mrs. Carter left, Camille quickly changed her clothes and skimmed through the report.

Danny and Edward were still talking when Mrs. Carter came over.

"Miss Davis slipped away from the back door."

"It's typical of her... Did she have the breakfast?"

"No."

"What about the glasses?"

"She took them away and read the report about the Davis Group."

"Very good."

Edward interjected, "Mr. Wilson, does this really work?"

"Of course. Since she is in a predicament, she has no choice but for me." Danny added with a confident look, "Send the prepared information to the private detective."

Back at home, Camille found herself tricked by Danny once again.

Cherry checked the miniature camera in the glasses and found it empty.

Camille recalled what Danny wore at the X Club last night. That was not the jacket from which she found her glasses, which meant he initially had no intention to return the glasses.

Camille yelled with anger, "Danny!"

There was a touch of anxiety in Cherry's voice, "Miss Davis, what should we do? Since Anthony discovered our plan yesterday, the same trick won't work. If the project continues to stall..."

"No worries. I'll find another solution."

She comforted Cherry while cursing Danny in her heart.

She had to find a way out.

Cherry was right. Now that she could not play the same trick on Anthony, should she return to ask Danny for help?

No, he would not have taken the video filmed by the miniature camera in her glasses if he was willing to help her.

Vera? No, Vera's attitudes towards Camille yesterday showed that she would continue to be tough on her.

As she was contemplating, her phone received a message, whose sender puzzled Camille.
