Chapter 9 Get Your Dirty Hands off Me
"Okay then, wait and see."
Mia walked up to Bella and whispered in the latter's ear. The former's indifferent attitude intensified Bella's hatred and made her clench her teeth tightly.
No matter how furious Mia was, she could maintain her composure.
When Mia threw those banknotes at Nova earlier, the expression in the young woman's eyes was also standoffish, as if the money meant nothing but some dirt to her.
Bella hated Mia's pretentiousness the most.
If Mia indeed did not care about money, she would not have got involved with Luke in the first place.
Bella curled up her lips into a disdainful arc. "Wait and see!"
Then, Bella turned to walk back. The wedding could not go on. But she and Luke had collected their marriage licenses. Because Mia and Luke were in love before her appearance, Bella would always be seen as a selfish bitch.
As the last piece of the reddish bills fell to the ground, Nova suddenly came to her senses.
Nova had never been thrown upon by three stacks of bills in quick succession. She was first petrified and then felt extremely embarrassed.
But in front of the guests, she had to tamp down her fury.
"Talk to my son in private, and don't show up in front of me again!"
Nova swiftly took her hand out of Dylan's grip and cast a fierce glance at the young man, then walked away in her ten-inch heels.
"Damn it. How dare Mia embarrass the entire Powell Family in public? One day, I'll scrub that smug look right off your face." While stepping away, Nova thought to herself.
As both Nova and Bella were gone, Mia reached the goal and then turned around to leave.
Her resolute back indicated that she had zero attachment to the Powell Family's power and status.
Staring at the woman's departing figure, Dylan squinted his meaningful eyes and curled up his lips into a somewhat creepy smile.
If only...
While Dylan was lost in thoughts, Luke could not contain himself any longer and walked up to grab Mia's arm. "Please wait."
"What's the matter?"
Mia gave a sidelong glance at Luke's thick brows and deep eyes. Although the man was as handsome as he always was, Mia felt sick to see his face.
The shifting expression in the woman's eyes made Luke think that she was hesitant or struggling.
Luke gazed at Mia with affection and distress.
"Mia, what happened exactly? My mother, she is really..."
"Ask your dear mother about that. Get off me. Our relationship isn't that close."
After moving Luke's hand away, Mia immediately took off the mourning clothes.
Then, she threw the clothes into Luke's arm and said with disgust, "Luke, stop pretending to be affectionate in front of me. That's disgusting. And keep your dirty hands away from me!"
"Dirty?"
Luke looked at Mia in disbelief. What happened to her? He felt as if he had never known Mia before.
Mia used to be obedient and adorable. She did not talk a lot but always kept Luke company. No matter what Luke said, Mia would listen with care and nod in agreement.
The first time Mia looked at Luke coldly and told him to get his dirty hands off her.
What the hell was going on? Was it because of his mother?
"Mia, I know you blame my mother for having made things difficult for you, but she did everything for me. Maybe she had a misunderstanding with you. I believe that in the future..."
Misunderstanding?
Mia almost laughed out loud. "Luke, did you not hear what I said? I said your mother was a murderer and angered my mother to death. Are you deaf or what?"
After that, she turned to leave and did not want to dwell on the matter with Luke.
What was the point of wasting time on a douche bag?
Luke did not catch up with Mia again but looked deeply at her back. He kept repeating Mia's words inwardly and wondered whether they were true or not.
He initially thought that Mia was here to save their relationship or to prevent him from getting married.
No one else stopped Mia from exiting the Powell Family's mansion.
Three days passed quickly. The university called Mia several times and told her that she would be punished. And Mia told the caller that she would soon get back to campus to go through the procedure of terminating the study and that they should not call her repeatedly.
Mia barely went outdoors over the last three days to avoid noticing her neighbors' disdainful eyes or hearing their gossiping about her.
She did not care but did not like it.
She had tidied the room up and cleared away the traces of Nova's visit. However, the silence in the air kept reminding the young woman that her mother died of anger due to Nova.
That night, a dark black Maybach pulled up at the entrance to the alley. The man in the passenger seat stepped out and pulled open the rear door.
Then, a masculine male in a black suit, with short hair and extraordinarily delicate features, got off the vehicle slowly.
The man was more than 1.8 meters tall, giving off a noble vibe. The way he walked was elegant.
He entered the narrow alley and stepped on the filth on the ground. However, his high temperament was not damaged in the least.
When he reached the end of the alley and saw the broken door of a place, the man slowly curled up his lips into an enchanting smile.
