Chapter 13 Disowning

She blamed Kelly for the death of her loved ones and bragged about herself as a loving mother.

Kelly seemingly saw wriggling maggots under that delicate skin.

If it weren't for this woman, she wouldn't have lost her mother during her birth.

She wouldn't have lived like a dirty wild child despised by others. Some people even threw stones at her, calling her a parentless bastard.

She wouldn't have to hide after being bullied. She didn't dare to fight back or reveal her scar.

She knew that it would distress her grandma!

Little children were supposed to be cuddled in their parents' arms, but she could only cry under the quilt in the middle of the night. She would shed tears, call for her mother, and shake from nightmares.

But these people still found it not good enough.

They even tried to get rid of her and save the trouble for good!

She was not reconciled.

"Mrs. Clark, that's very kind of you to love my granddaughter-in-law so dearly."

A hint of displeasure crept on Rose's face, and her brows furrowed involuntarily.

Didn't the old man get her?

Oblivious to her expression, Chapman told everyone to take his seat, asked the maid to serve tea, and grabbed Kelly's hand again.

"Forgive me for my liberty, but I really get along with Kelly. I've consulted a fortuneteller and asked him to practice astrology. The result is that Kelly and David will be a perfect couple. Kelly will be a lucky star for her husband and family. If she marries into the Kent family, we'll definitely thrive. So, I decided on the marriage there and then..."

He pointed to the blushing girl, "See? She looked as shy as this back then. So, I took the liberty to decide on the marriage."

"Chapman!" Kelly coyly pushed the old man.

She lifted her head and took a shy glance at everyone.

David looked at Chapman with doubts and then laid his gloomy eyes filled with disgust on Kelly's face.

Kelly didn't mind it but cared about James's feelings.

Unfortunately, disappointment was destined.

If he could show the slightest hint of delight on his handsome face, Kelly wouldn't have hated him that much.

But she was disappointed.

The smile on James's face was not only unnatural but even frustrated.

Rose looked even more dramatic. She was livid but forced herself to maintain her image as a loving mother.

Kelly wondered if her pent-up anger would damage her internal organs.

She quickly snapped her gaze back and dropped her eyes again.

She had to play her part well in the show!

"I hope you'll pardon me!"

"Actually, it's an honor for Kelly to marry into the prominent Kent family. We're so happy for her. David, you are well-educated and knowledgeable. I hope you won't look down on Kelly!"

Rose picked up the teacup, took a sip, and observed David's expression out of the corner of her eye.

She was expecting an opposing opinion from his mouth.

...

Before David could say anything...

Chapman smacked the table, "I dare him! Such a good wife is really hard to come by. If he dares to say no, I'll disown him right away!"
