Chapter 13 She's Likely to Be a Vegetable
Regardless of the pain on her forehead, Christine climbed to her feet and hurried to her mother's side. Hands trembling, she held the injured woman in her arms. "Mom, wake up!"
The blood kept gushing out of Tina's brain and even wet the floor. This sight briefly panicked Christine.
"Christine Taylor, this has nothing to do with me. Your mother fought first, and we just defended ourselves." Wylie said nervously. If Tina died, it would put her into great trouble.
"You..." Christine stared at Wylie furiously, but that only lasted for a second; the top priority was to save her mother. She fumbled out a phone from her mother's pocket and dialed "120".
She didn't bother to blame Wylie or her bodyguards at all.
"Why are you still standing here? Let's go! If she dies, we'll also get into trouble!" Wylie thought Christine was calling the police; so she picked up the phone by her feet and escaped straight away. As she walked, she scolded the bodyguards behind her, "I just wanted you to teach them a small lesson. Why were you so reckless?"
"Miss Cage, we're sorry about that... We didn't expect that old woman to be so fragile..." The bodyguards kept apologizing.
"Forget it. Thankfully, I've got the phone, or Darren would blame us again." Wylie began deleting those unsightly photos.
Finally, she sighed with relief and then headed for her next destination, the Wright Group.
"Mom, wake up! Don't scare me!" Tina fell into a deep coma. After calling the ambulance, Christine cried aloud on the ground for some time. On arriving here, the nurses got Tina into the car swiftly and zoomed toward the hospital.
"Doctor, please save my mom!" Tina remained unconscious, with blood all over her face. Her white dress and even Christine's clothes had nearly been dyed red.
On the way to the hospital, Christine almost had a breakdown. She was really afraid that her mother would leave her this way.
"Please go out. Don't disturb our work." A nurse pushed Christine, who was emotionally unstable, out of the operation room.
"Doctor, please! Please save my mother." Christine covered her face and cried helplessly. She had been living with Tina, her only family alive, since she was little. If Tina left her, she would then become a homeless orphan.
"We'll try our best," the nurse replied and slammed the door shut.
As the red light was on, the rescue began. Christine slumped onto a cold chair, her anxious gaze locked on the operation room. For many times, she prayed for her mother's safety.
As time crawled by, she felt like her heart was being corroded. About one hour later, the door was finally opened. On seeing the doctor in a green surgical gown, she rose and hurried up to him.
"Doctor, how's my mother?" Her pale face was covered with dried tears and written with worry.
The doctor took off his mask and said with a sigh. "Miss Taylor, your mother's condition is not that good. Her forehead is heavily injured. It's likely that..."
The doctor fumbled helplessly for soft words.
"It's likely what?" Nervous, Christine held the serious-faced doctor's arm tightly.
"She's likely... to be a vegetable." Tine had been saved, but she was now lying on the bed like a dead person.
Vegetable?
Christine took a few stumbles back and looked at the doctor in disbelief.
"It's lucky enough to survive. Through the subsequent treatment and family's care, your mother still has a great hope to come to her senses. Miss Taylor, please follow me to the counter and pay the expense. We can't continue the treatment until the bill is paid." He handed a medical bill to her.
"I'll pay the bill. Please cure my mother." Christine wiped her tears and had a look at the bill.
But just then, she was stunned by the figure "250,000".
"250,000 yuan?" She rubbed her tears in disbelief. "Why is it so expensive?"
"Your mother must be injected every day. 250,000 yuan a month is the lowest cost." the doctor explained.
Christine held the phone in her hand, saying hesitantly, "I don't have that much money. Can I..."
