Chapter 17 A Materialistic Girl?
Tessa narrowed her eyes.
That man had spent 400 million yuan just to see Master Brain.
When she was about to text, Nicole slapped her phone away.
Tessa lifted her head with a fierce glare burning like fire.
Daunted, Nicole felt a shiver down her spine.
It was the second time this rustic had stared like this at her!
Just then, the bell rang, and students walked into the classroom. Tony also appeared at the door.
Nicole warned viciously in a low voice, "If you haven't changed your seat by noon, don't blame me for being rude."
Tony noticed that some students, especially Nicole's friends, looked at Tessa with gloating smiles.
"Tessa, if anyone bullies you, just tell me!"
As Tony shouted, Nicole and several girls looked away with pale faces.
Tessa just picked up her phone and continued to send the message.
[T: Tell him my phone number.]
Two minutes later, her phone buzzed. Vance King's name appeared on the screen.
Tessa brushed the screen with a finger and hung up the phone.
On the other side, Vance pulled a straight face.
It had been almost two months, but he merely got the phone number of Master Brain's assistant. What was worse, his phone went unanswered.
When he was about to call again, he received a message.
[I'm having a class.]
Vance frowned.
Was Master Brain's assistant a student?
At this moment, Tessa was sitting in a trance in the classroom. The math teacher's class was boring, and his monotonous voice was just like white noise.
She took out a pile of paper and drew a complex design on it.
Tony craned his neck and recognized only some mathematical symbols. Once again, he felt the intellectual humiliation that he had suffered during the training.
It was lunch hour after this class, so the students swarmed out of the classroom.
The phone rang on time.
With a smile, Tessa answered it.
"Hi."
Hearing the lazy, soft voice, Vance didn't speak for a while.
Tessa also didn't say anything, but there was a sly grin on her face.
Both of them fell into silence for a moment.
"Miss Wexler," Vance finally said, "I want to meet you."
Tessa was somewhat surprised that he had recognized her voice from only one syllable. It seemed he had good hearing.
"Then you have to be fast. I have classes in the afternoon."
She told him the address and hung up the phone.
In the car, Vance took out a piece of paper that he had read many times and unfolded it.
There were only a few words on it.
Name: Tessa Wexler.
Father: Lester Wexler.
Mother: Shirley Flores (departed).
"Lester is Old Mr. Wexler's eldest son. He left home with his wife and daughter because of family opposition to his marriage. His current residence is unknown, but he's said to be living a poor life in a western village..."
Michael surreptitiously took a look at Vance's face.
He had bought this information in person from a maid of the Wexler's.
Although it was not objective, it was at least real.
The comments about Tessa were really not that good.
She was said to "seemingly have a boyfriend who has blond hair and a luxury car".
Among Vance's admirers were so many rich ladies, but he didn't care about them at all. The only one who attracted his attention was a materialistic girl from the countryside!
Vance folded the paper with his pretty fingers and tore it apart.
Michael was stunned.
Did Mr. King want to deny the facts?
"How much did you spend on this?" Vance asked in a flat tone.
Michael replied honestly, "5,000 yuan."
"I'll be deducted from your salary."
Michael trembled and almost lost his grip on the steering wheel.
"Mr. King, you can't take it out on me just because you're not satisfied with the result."
Vance leaned against the backrest and stared indifferently at the front.
Michael felt countless cold pricks stabbed into the back of his head.
"You think I'm punishing you at will? I'll prove to you after a while."
