Chapter 2 Golden Retriever

The villa was spacious with a front yard and a back yard where Shirley went.

Type 1 diabetes was not a serious disease. Just like her daughter Alice, a patient who only needed to supplement insulin that he or she lacked every day.

But there were also many things to notice to protect a child with this disease.

If a healthy child suddenly disappeared at home, he or she might be playing hide-and-seek. But if the child was sick, he or she might faint unexpectedly.

Alice had once fainted at home. By then, Shirley thought Alice was just playing somewhere and didn't pay much attention to it, thinking that Alice would show up after a while. But when she found Alice lying on the ground unconscious, she felt more than regretful and guilty!

From then on, every time she heard that a child was missing, she would try her best to help look for the child.

Although most children just hid out of fun, Shirley felt happy and relieved to know that they were healthy and safe.

Unlike the front yard, the back yard was very quiet and dark with few lights. The deeper Shirley went in, the gloomier it became, which made her somewhat scared.

It seemed unlikely for a child to come to such a place.

When she was hesitating over whether to go back, her pants were dragged by something. She looked down and found it was a Golden Retriever.

The dog was very clever. Knowing that Shirley would follow it, it loosened its bite, turned around, and ran to somewhere.

Shirley followed it instinctively.

Passing two flowerbeds, she saw a little boy in a while suit lying still next to a doghouse.

!!!

Shocked, Shirley trotted over and carried him in her arms.

She felt that he was very light and might be malnourished. Judging by his height, he was about four or five years old, just like Alice.

But it was so dark here that she couldn't tell whether there was an onset of the disease. She must go somewhere bright right away.

"Thank you," she lowered her head and said before she left.

"Woof woof!"

In the living room of the house.

At this moment, the building was just like a thousand-year ice cellar with the overwhelming coldness produced by a single man.

"Mr. Roberts, I'm sure your son will be fine. He may be playing hide-and-seek with us. All the servants are looking for him and will soon find him." Old Mr. Smith squeezed out an embarrassed smile.

"Yes," Evelyn also tried hard to comfort. "It's children's nature to play. Don't worry."

Secretly, she raised her eyelids and had an affectionate peep at the man's face.

The man looked very handsome and as aloof as an emperor with absolute authority.

Evelyn blushed at his charm.

Johnson Roberts, who had been silent, spoke, "Dog."

Dog?

What did he mean?

The Smiths looked at each other in confusion.

Johnson's assistant Flynn Harris explained, "Mr. Roberts wants to know if you have any dog."

Evelyn replied, "Yes, we have a Golden Retriever..."

Johnson seemed to have known where his son Tom was and asked fiercely, "Where is it?"

Scared by his fury, Evelyn stammered, "I-it's in the back yard. I can show you the way..."

But just then, Shirley hurried in with a boy in her arms. The boy was wearing an expensive white suit...

It was Mr. Roberts's son!

Evelyn was furious. Why could this woman find the boy before so many servants?
