Chapter 8 She Is Sick
The spacious office instantly fell into silence.
Jayden gave off a frosty vibe, and it seemed that his eyes simply could freeze whatever came into his sight.
Lorna sat on the sofa lazily with her arms crossed and revealed a fearless and uncompromising smile.
Noah's heart pounded violently, and he worried that he would become a victim of the fight between the two. However, Karen first looked at Lorna as if nothing was going on and then blinked at Jayden. After a short while, she got up and stood between the brother and sister to block the eye contact between them.
"Mr. Spencer," She said to Jayden in a soft voice, "This role is really suitable for Lorna."
"You think so?" Jayden stood up slowly. Although there was a table between him and Karen, his tall, slender figure still enveloped the woman in the shadows. And his voice was filled with the horror of an oncoming storm. "You want Lorna, the young lady of the Spencer Consortium, to play an eye candy which has only a tiny part in the entire play?"
The script Karen chose for Lorna was an ancient-costume TV series, and the crew was one of the best in the country. The project department of Jayden's company had saved the leading female role for Lorna. However, Karen actually wanted her to play a femme fatale, which would show up in the story for less than ten times and have a lousy ending.
Every time the femme fatale showed up in the play, she would say less than five lines. In fact, the purpose of her appearance was to be reviled. In the end, she would be universally condemned and cut in half.
Why did Karen want Jayden's sister to play such a role? And it was going to be Lorna's first role in her career.
Jayden lifted his hand to grab Karen, intending to throw the brainless muscle Barbie out of the room. At this moment, Karen replied recklessly, "But it's a matter of the fact that Lorna is eye candy. It will be easier for her to stand out among the actresses and actors by showing her true colors. I mean, her beauty is her advantage."
Noah suddenly felt dizzy and almost dropped to his knees.
She dared to say that Miss Lorna was eye candy?
Unexpectedly, at Karen's words, Lorna did not get angry but revealed a smile. She walked over to the front of Jayden and hugged Karen in her arms. "Did you hear that? Even an outsider is clear that your sister is eye candy. Jayden, you must have a misunderstanding of me."
Lorna then gently pinched Karen's smooth, adorable face. "Karen, you know me better. I will play the femme fatale and let the others in the crew worship my stunning beauty."
Jayden's eyes twitched, and an invisible crack appeared on his cold face. He secretly took a deep breath, glanced at Lorna, and said, "You go out first."
"What do you want to do?" Lorna hugged Karen tightly and defensively. When she was about to continue arguing with Jayden, Karen patted her face with her soft, pale hands, saying, "Lorna, Mr. Spencer has something to talk to me. He cares about you. Could you wait for me outside for a while, please?"
With her brows furrowed, Lorna lowered her head to look at Karen. Karen revealed a comforting smile and reached out her hand to stroke Lorna's head.
Lorna narrowed her eyes, let go of Karen, and then said, "Okay, then, I'll wait for you outside. No matter what my brother is going to say, do not take it seriously."
Lorna tilted her head and rolled her eyes at Jayden. In an instant, she withdrew her defense like a hedgehog hid its prickles. "Jayden, I'm telling you, you'll regret it if you're going to make things difficult for Karen."
With that, Lorna walked out of the room and took Noah, standing in the doorway, with her.
"Karen Wood." Only Jayden and Karen were left in the room. The temperature in Jayden's eyes was getting lower and lower when he looked at the woman's innocent, adorable face. Just as he was about to open his mouth, Karen anticipated him to say, "Mr. Spencer, you didn't tell that Lorna is sick, did you?"
