Chapter 3 Reborn

Then Lora saw the man turning around and walking to the sickbed. His every step was extremely heavy.

His powerful hands that strangled Denny were trembling when he touched the thin white sheet.

After he pulled off the white cloth, Lora saw her own face.

Her face was not good-looking. Six months before her death, she got a strange disease that tortured her out of shape. She fell to death from the fourth floor, resulting in a big hole on the back of her head, and her face collapsed and contorted.

Sick of the scene, Lora looked away but out of the corner of her eye saw the man leaning down and stroking her deformed face gently with his fingers

"Sorry, I... came late."

His hoarse voice broke the dead silence in the ward.

Lora raised her head incredulously and happened to see a crystal drip reflecting the light of the setting sun. It was like a belated drop of tear from the dead.

Was it raining?

Lora felt a chill, lifted her hand, and touched her tearful face. Turned out ghosts could also shed tears.

Her tears didn't fall before the shameless Elsa and Denny or Denny's betrayal. She shed tears amid the grieving voice of the man.

Who... were you?

"Who are you? No... don't jump! No!"

Lora felt like in a hot furnace and could hardly breathe. That tall figure kept flashing across her mind.

Before her eyes, he picked up her body and walked out of the ward. The nurses and doctors were somehow nowhere to be found. Without any hindrance, they reached the rooftop and boarded a helicopter.

The helicopter eventually landed in a desert that featured a famous natural gas pit in the empire. Like a natural furnace, the huge pit slept on the barren land. Its inner temperature reached as high as 1,000 degrees Celsius. Carrying her, he walked towards the flames without hesitation.

"Get out of here! Don't jump! No!"

The heat burned and the blast rolled.

Lora strained her voice to stop him, but the man leaped down with her in his arms.

At the moment, the vortex of flames sucked her in together with her spirit. In an instant, their flesh and bones melted into one. No one could separate them again.

"No!"

The tragic scene stinging her nerves, Lora abruptly opened her eyes and panted.

She seemingly still felt a burning pain from her skin, and the man's voice seemed still echoing in her ears.

His last words were, "Lora, don't be afraid. Be it life or death, I'll be with you!"

But instead of the desert flames, a simple desk and a small wooden window came into view.

The moonlight slanted in through the half-open casement. The summer night breeze mixed with the chirps from various mountain insects rushed in, amid which, the room felt even quieter.

This... was her grandma's pharmacy!

But the pharmacy and her grandmother were devoured by flames four years ago. How was she back here?

In her chest, her heart thumped like a drum, reminding her that she was alive. As an idea struck her mind, her blood was boiling.

She remembered her last scene when the tall figure fell into the boundless sea of flames with her.

If there was an afterlife, she would find him, repay him, and never make sacrifices for unworthy people. She would take back everything that belonged to her and guard those who really loved her!

Was she... reborn?

Before Lora could snap out of the shock, she suddenly felt a strong force on her chest, and a hoarse, deep voice came from behind.

"Hot..."

Along with the strange male voice, a scalding skin landed on her nape and brushed against her tender skin. The hot breaths of the man assaulted her ear.
