Chapter 8 Why Can't He Give Me Even 100 Yuan?
The black Maserati was running on a boulevard. John drove seriously and sometimes sneaked a look at Kent, who was reading some papers, through the mirror.
The papers were the information John had collected about Virginia from her childhood to now.
"Orphan. No background information. Interesting."
Kent wore a deep blue shirt and turned the pages slowly with his slender fingers. His coat had been gone, but he didn't care about it at all.
His attention was focused on these simple papers. After reading them several times, he finally put them to a side.
He crossed his legs. "Couldn't you find any information about her before she was sent to the orphanage?"
John answered immediately, "No, Mr. Lopez. Her identity seems to have been hidden deliberately. I don't have the right to inquire about it. I think only you can make it."
But would his boss really go to the orphanage for this trivial thing?
With curiosity, he observed Kent's expression through the mirror, but Kent looked out of the window calmly and didn't talk anymore.
In Room 2205 of Great Glory Hotel.
Virginia held her painful head and got up from the soft bed limply. She looked around in confusion for a while and gradually became sober.
She remembered clearly that someone had saved her. That person had a pure faint smell of tobacco on his body.
He must be a man who liked smoking. But where was he now?
She looked around and didn't see any other people. Her hand was put on the bed...
Huh?
Feeling the soft tactile under her hand, she looked down and found a slightly wrinkled coat.
Was it that man's?
She picked it up and glanced around like a thief. Then, she lowered her head and smelt the coat hard.
"Phew–"
She recognized the tobacco smell from it, though it had become very faint.
"What is this?" She put down the coat and took up a conspicuous note on the nightstand.
"Hand-wash it before returning it to me. No laundry fees."
Virginia revealed a wry smile. "This man must have a fetish about cleanliness! Why can't he give me even 100 yuan?"
After a short break, she sighed and rose with the expensive coat of a certain brand.
On a chair next to the bed was an obvious bag. She opened it and saw some new clothes.
"You seem to be quite careful. All right, I forgive you for not giving me 100 yuan."
She smiled and thought of the warm smell again.
After getting dressed, she walked into the bathroom and washed her face with warm water.
In the mirror, she was as white as a sheet. Although she had a little red on her cheeks, she looked evidently ill.
She patted her face hard. "Don't worry. Laughing is better way than crying to spend a day. Cheer up, Virginia Carson! You have many wishes to realize!"
She said to herself in the mirror. After five minutes of self-adjustment, she strode out with the coat.
After that, she went back to school safely and spent several peaceful days.
Crystal had been out of the hospital and went to find Virginia with Liam. They examined one another carefully before they were relieved. No one mentioned the thing again, afraid that would hurt each other's hearts.
But Virginia didn't think Wilson would let go of her easily. As long as she was alive, he would pester her like a ghost.
On the weekend several days later...
Virginia planned to go to the city library to borrow some books. But just as she stepped out of the campus, she heard many whispers, especially women's cheers.
She looked over curiously.
Wilson was leaning against a fiery-red BMW with an unlit cigarette between his lips. Wearing a jacket and leggings, he made himself rather garish.
Their eyes met and reacted instantly.
Virginia's heartbeat quickened. She lowered her head and left immediately.
Before she could escape far away, her wrist was grabbed by him.
"Do you think you can hide from me for a whole life?" With a familiar malicious smile on his face, he dragged her into the car forcibly.
She couldn't resist and didn't want to cause any trouble at the college gate. After all, she wanted to finish her study at this college.
"Where are you taking me?"
As the buildings moved back on both sides, she held her arms uneasily.
"Somewhere we should go." He looked around at her with a smirk. Seeing her trembling shoulders, he laughed wildly.
"Don't worry. I won't put you in the refrigerator again. After all, it's boring to play a game twice." He blinked to show his kindness.
But his grin made her even scared. She thought a devil's smile would look very much like this.
The speed of the car soared all the way. With fear, she grasped the seat belt that was fastened against her chest.
The wind screeched in from the window.
"You lunatic, drive slowly! Ah–"
But he didn't listen to her.
About 10 minutes later, the car suddenly came to a halt.
Virginia jumped out of the car at her fastest speed and squatted by the road to vomit, with both hands on her belly.
Wilson frowned with disgust and kicked her butt lightly with the top of his rivet shoe. "Finished? Follow me in."
She took out a tissue from her pocket and wiped her lips. Then, she looked up at the sign – Bureau of Civil Affairs!
"What..."
Before she could finish her words, he dragged her into the building directly.
Since there were few people inside, they didn't need to queue.
He threw his household register and ID card on the counter. "Did my mother tell you I would come today?"
The woman, who clearly knew Wilson, began going through formalities without asking anything.
Startled, Virginia banged the glass crazily. "Wait! My household register is not here! You can't get me married so randomly!"
Seeing her reluctant and helpless look, Wilson shrugged his shoulders complacently. "Take it easy. My mom has solved this little problem."
The woman on the other side of the glass typed their ID numbers rapidly.
One minute passed...
Three minutes passed...
"Why are you so slow?" Getting impatient, Wilson knocked on the glass. At this moment, Virginia was sitting on the ground with a despaired pale face regardless of her image.
The woman bit her lower lip and rose with a frown. Then, she said in confusion, "Mr. Baker, this lady's household register has been encrypted. I don't have the right to use it."
