Chapter 12 Caring about Her?

"Wh-why?" Holding her heavy granddaughter, Rosa was utterly perplexed.

"He has a wife, but he proposed to me! He's using his daughter as bait to cheat me! Jackass!" After hurling abuse, Stars ran out of the house in a huff.

Rosa was dumbfounded.

Wife? James didn't like Lucy at tall. They accepted her as a family member just because they wanted to give Alice an intact family.

And divorced? James and Lucy didn't get married, so they, of course, didn't get divorced.

Had Stars misunderstood something and thought that they didn't get divorced because they loved each other?

For the first time, Rosa felt the language was a tricky tool.

Wait! What had Stars just said?

Propose?

Had James proposed to Stars?

Rosa couldn't wait to figure out what had happened. With the little girl in her arms, this old lady ran upstairs quickly.

James had been chewing over John's words in the study. When the door was pushed open, he saw his daughter was held in his mother's arms.

"Where's Stars?"

"Son, you've proposed to Stars?" Rosa looked more than excited.

Her son was intelligent, mature, and steady, but sadly, all his thoughts were on business. He didn't care about love or romance at all.

That worried her very much.

If Lucy hadn't been sent to test James's soberness in the name of continuity of the family lineage, Rosa wouldn't have had a grandchild like Alice.

James put down his pen and asked, "Where is Stars?"

"She left angrily and said you were a jackass," Rosa replied. Stars must have misunderstood what she had said.

James suddenly felt twitches on his eyebrows.

Why such a serious matter was just like a joke when it came out of his mother's mouth?

"Why?" he asked as he gritted his teeth.

"Son, now that you care about her, just chase her!" Rosa suggested.

She had never seen his son cared about a woman. Neither had she seen Alice was intimate to anyone.

Mr. Lopez had such a sharp eye for people. The woman he had introduced had tamed the two "demons" in this family!

Care?

James was stupefied.

Had he shown that so obviously?

...

Stars returned to the movie city in a huff.

Since she was Lucy's top stand-in, she was offered accommodation in a hotel in the movie city.

At this moment, the hotel entrance was blocked by a group of people.

Curious, Stars nudged her way forward through the crowd.

On the ground was a pile of stuff, including clothes, shoes, and skincare products.

When she saw a corner of something square wrapped in black cloth in a familiar bag, she realized the things on the ground were all hers.

Eyes narrowed, she rushed forward, picked up the bag, and held it tightly in her arms. "Who did this?"

Hearing her voice, Dunn Moore walked out of the hotel. "Stars White, what trouble have you caused outside? I warn you, don't get us involved!"

She bit her lower lip.

How unfair! The weak didn't have a voice!

"Clean up your stuff! If you make trouble again, just get out of here!" Dunn scolded loudly and then left.

The onlookers also stopped gawking and scattered.

Wet by the water in the puddles, Stars's things had become unusable. However angry she was, she could only throw them into the dustbin.

It had been dark when she finished that and returned to her room with a glum look.

"Stars, you've finally back. Today, two black-clad men broke in and threw away your things. I was freaked out!" Stars's roommate, Kate Hill, patted her chest and said, "I tried to stop them, but they said it served you right to offend Mr. Green. I..."

"Mr. Green?" Stars caught the keyword.

"Yes, I suppose he's James Green. Everyone knows him." Kate looked very worried. "Stars, how did you offend such a big shot?"

It was him!

Stars grasped her bag in anger, hands shaking with strength.

Was he mad? She had just cursed him a bit before leaving his house! How could he be so mean and throw away her things?

Kate comforted, "Stars, Now that things have happened, just forget them. Lucy Mill invites us to Carnival Club tonight. I can lend you a dress. Put it on, and then we can go."

Carnival Club was one of the best in this city. The rich always liked to talk about business there.

It seemed Lucy was quite well-to-do.

"All right." She didn't dare to decline Lucy's invitation, so she changed the clothes and then went there with Kate and some other people.

...

In the evening.

Carnival Club.

Corridor.

With great admiration, Lucy Mill was gazing at a tall handsome man, James Green.

He was cold and expressionless. A black coat with a hemline at the knee gave him an unfathomable and daunting air.

This man really had intoxicating magic.

"James, what a coincidence to meet you here! I invited my colleagues to have fun here tonight." Lucy pretended to come across him.

Actually, she had known James would meet a business partner here, or she wouldn't have spent so much money entertaining those walk-ons.

James remained silent.

She had been used to his indifference. But the colder he was, the more she wanted to conquer him.

After a pause, she continued, "James, I called home at noon today. Why didn't you answer the phone?"

"I'm busy," he said briefly in a frigid voice.

She sighed. "Your mom also didn't answer my phone. The servant said she was coaxing Alice to sleep. James, I know she doesn't like me because I give too much to my career and neglect Alice. But I really love Alice from the bottom of my heart..."

As she said that, she found James was staring at the door of a room, without paying any attention to her.

She became suspicious.

Then, she also looked at the door.

Through the glass on it, she recognized the people inside as her stands-in.

fuck you

At this moment, someone in the room was yelling at the top of her voice. Her emotional roars of "fuck you" kept coming out of the room.

They sounded more like curses than lyrics.

Lucy frowned deeply. It seemed she had an exceptionally uncouth stand-in.

It was so rude to sing these swear words loudly!

James had noticed the woman who was singing and looked like Stars.

Now, he was sure it was her.

No wonder he felt the voice was familiar.

She was wearing a dark slip dress, which seemed to be someone else's because it didn't fit her, but the low-necked design gave her a special touch of charm. She was holding a microphone with both hands and sang herself hoarse.

She was so lovely that she looked just like a little girl who had stolen an adult's sexy dress.

He couldn't move his sight away.

For some reason, Lucy was angry when noticing how earnest his gaze was. "What a rude woman! I must teach her to behave herself!"

She couldn't allow her stand-in to sing such a vulgar song here!
