Chapter 19 Borrowing Half a Million Yuan
The rain was pouring.
A black Bentley Mulsanne was driving down the road, and people in the car remained silent.
Brenda cast a secretive glance at the man sitting next to her.
His head was lowered, and his side face looked stunningly handsome.
Though Brenda had encountered all kinds of gossip and frequented the entertainment section of newspapers before, it was indeed her first time to confront such a large group of journalists.
If Terry had not shown up and deterred those reporters, Brenda would not have got rid of them.
"Mr. Lloyd, thank you for stepping in to help me out today..." After taking a deep breath, Brenda opened her mouth to express her gratitude.
Terry lifted his hand to signal her to stop it.
Following his instruction, Brenda hurried to shut her mouth up.
The man's hand looked slender, yet it owned horrible power.
"If it were someone else, I wouldn't have appeared," said Terry standoffishly.
Brenda widened her eyes open in surprise. What did the man mean?
She forced herself not to overthink it.
"Then I have to thank you, even more, Mr. Lloyd. I'm honored..."
"My name cannot appear in a gossip magazine together with yours."
At the man's words, Brenda instantly muted her voice.
Terry's tone was not sarcastic, but the hints of coldness and disdain were clear to Brenda.
She could understand it.
For example, the scalding event apparently had nothing to do with sex, yet those journalists still tried to make it erotic news as it was related to the woman.
It was normal that Terry wanted to maintain a distance away from her.
As the atmosphere in the backseat fell into embarrassment again, Ralph, sitting in the front, cleared his throat, asking, "Miss Shaw, where do you want to go?"
Brenda gently shook her head and replied in a soft voice, "Just pull up over there, and I'll get off."
Ralph shotted a quick glance at his boss.
In fact, even if Terry had not stood up for Brenda, there were countless ways to keep the gossip out of the papers.
The only reason for Terry to show up was to help Brenda out.
Brenda might have misunderstood Terry's good intentions, but Ralph understood his boss.
Therefore, he said, "It's pouring outside, and it's not easy to get a cab around. Let me give you a ride."
Sure enough. Terry did not say anything against it.
Before Brenda could respond to Ralph's suggestion, her cell phone rang.
It was from the hospital where Lucas was staying; the woman immediately answered it though she was in Terry's vehicle.
"What? You're going to stop the meds today?"
"The patient has third-degree deep burns. Stopping the medication will kill him!"
"How much? Half a million?!"
"I don't have so much money at the moment, but I'll think of a solution right away. Please don't stop the medication. Please!"
Brenda's tone was growing more and more panicky.
Though the air conditioning was on in the vehicle, Brenda's forehead was soaked in sweat.
After putting the phone away, Brenda's hands went weak and numb.
Lucas was a young and promising actor.
He was lying in the sickbed and facing a life-and-death situation.
If it were Brenda who had got injured the day before, she would have fallen into despair.
At this moment, Brenda could empathize with Lucas.
Ralph then asked, "Are you in some kind of trouble, Miss Shaw?"
Those words came to Brenda like a ray of lifesaving light. She turned to Terry and pleased, "Mr. Lloyd, could you please lend me half a million yuan? I'll pay it back as quickly as I can. I can also sign a contract with Forever Arts Media to take parts in its shows without getting paid."
Forever Arts Media was an entertainment company owned by the Lloyd Global Group.
Though it did not have the scale of the long-running Shine Media that Cathy Studio was attached to, it was a rising star and one of the biggest companies in the entertainment industry.
After Brenda's words, a cold silence fell over the car.
Ralph wondered if his boss was wondering the same thing.
According to Mr. Lloyd, Brenda had already asked him for ten million yuan, so why could she not take out half a million?
Judging from her performance, her anxiety should be real.
Could it be true that Miss Shaw was a greedy woman?
Just as Ralph wanted to mention the ten million, he suddenly heard his boss's icy words.
"Give her an umbrella, and pull up the car by the road."
Terry, like a grave emperor, opened his mouth and said those ruthless words.
Did Mr. Lloyd mean to drive the woman out of the car?
At this moment, the vehicle was driving in the middle of a cross-sea bridge. It would be impossible for the woman to hail a taxi.
She had to walk several miles, either forwards or backward.
The rain in the storm invaded the woman from all directions, drenching Brenda's blouse.
She felt cold, exhausted, and awkward.
In the meanwhile, she had to try hard to tamp down the sensation of self-rejection boiling in her heart.
Half of million yuan should mean nothing but a speck of dirt in Terry's eyes.
Though Brenda was poor at this moment, it was still possible for her to repay the money. Also, she had expressed her willingness to sign a contract. Why was Terry still unwilling to save Lucas's life?
If though he thought that person's life was meaningless...
He should not have crushed her dignity like this...
It took Brenda half an hour to arrive at the hospital, and she was, of course, saturated.
The hospital had done what they had said they would do.
Lucas's sickbed had been pushed into the corridor, and all the medical equipment was removed.
His leg was wrapped in thick gauze, and there was yellow and reddish liquid oozing from the bandage. He looked totally messy.
He looked lifeless and was deep in a coma.
When Brenda came to Lucas, Eva was already there. Staring at her, Eva pouted.
"Look at him, can you be at peace?" asked Eva in a cold tone.
Brenda replied expressionlessly, "What do you want me to do before the studio is willing to pay the money?"
"Tomorrow, eight o'clock in the evening, President Wood will be waiting for you at Capital Nightclub."
Brenda closed her eyes, looking as terrible as Lucas.
"Okay."
