Chapter 2 I Did Not Drug You

Abigail shuddered at George's yell, lowered her head, and then realized she was in nude. Her pale face flushed all over in an instant, and she buried her head deep in shame.

"No..."

Biting her bottom lip tightly, she noticed that a washcloth was on the bedside through the corner of her eye and hurried to drag it. Just then, a small box fell out of the towel.

She fixed her eyes on what had fallen and found that it was a box of Elevit pregnancy multivitamins.

Abigail's face turned bloodless in a second, her lips trembling. She thought, "Fine. It's even harder for me to clear the misunderstanding up now."

She then cast a glance at George and saw clearly that hostility and sarcasm were occupying his cold pupils.

"You've said that it's not you. How do you explain this?"

He yanked her arm in fury and threw her away like she was a disgusting piece of trash. Then, he said in a frosty, cruel voice, "Abigail, don't imagine that is possible for you to conceive my child. You don't deserve it!"

The woman's forehead hit the sharp corner of the nightstand, and an unbearable pain instantly dug into her heart.

Abigail bit her lower lip hard to prevent her tears from shedding and did not say anything. However, she could not straighten up.

"I repeat, I didn't drug you, I..."

Before Abigail could finish her words, George's cell phone suddenly rang. The man picked the phone up to answer despite the woman was still trying to say something.

"What's the matter?"

"Okay, I'll be there right away."

After getting changed hastily, George left the room.

Feeling exhausted, Abigail collapsed on the king-size bed.

...

Knock, knock.

After being in a trance for a good while, Abigail was waked up from her horrible dream by the knock on the door to the bedroom.

"What's up?"

The maid at the door replied, "Madam, breakfast is ready."

"Okay, I'll be downstairs in a minute," Abigail answered and then forced herself out of bed.

She got changed and then walked to the bathroom to wash up. In the mirror, she saw a woman pale as a sheet and looked horrible with blood clotting from the cut on her forehead.

After being stunned for a second, she took a long sigh, dried the bloodstains with a swab, and trimmed her bangs with a pair of scissors to cover the wound. The new hairstyle made her look years younger.

She had not cut her hair since marrying into the Gates Family, because Grandpa did not like it. Therefore, for a while, she could not get used to the straight bang.

Then, she walked back to the messy bedroom to make the bed.

Upon seeing the bright, scarlet stain on the white sheet, she got choked up, and after that, she folded it up and took it straight to the washing machine.

After calming herself down, Abigail opened the door and went downstairs with a regular expression on her face.

In the dining room, Grandfather Oliver was sipping his porridge. He looked quite energetic, not like a patient, who had been sent to the emergency room due to a heart attack the day before at all. Witnessing the scene, Abigail suddenly recalled that it was Grandfather Oliver who had asked her to bring George the milk last night.

A trace of suspicion flashed across her eyes. She wanted to express her doubt out but eventually said nothing.

"Grandpa, are you feeling better?" Abigail let out a calm, innocent smile and quietly sat across from Oliver Gates.

Seeing the woman's bangs covering her forehead, Oliver narrowed his eyes slightly and then revealed a serene smile. "I'm feeling much better, thanks. Why did you cut your hair?"

"I did so on a whim." Abigail maintained her calm smile, skilfully poured a glass of juice, and handed it over to the older man. "Grandpa, are you still going fishing today?"

Abigail had married into the Gates Family for almost three years. However, George did not like her and had another woman in his heart. To express his discontent, he had moved out on the first day of their wedding and never returned for the next 800 days. Therefore, only Abigail and Grandpa had been living in this villa.

Last night, George got back for the first time since the marriage.

If George had not come back, things would be easier for Abigail. However, that was not what Grandfather Oliver wanted.

Abigail guessed that Grandfather Oliver might have faked his illness the day before, and the reason why he had done so should be that he wanted George and Abigail to make a baby for the family.

Abigail lowered her head to cut the fried egg on her plate. Her new bangs itched her forehead, and she then reached out to adjust it.

"I've just got off the phone with James. We're going fishing at Ring River today." Grandfather Oliver, deliberately not mentioning anything about last night, asked Abigail with a usually amicable look in his eyes, "Do you want to join us?"
