CHAPTER 8, PREGNANT?

Just as Elena returned to the bedroom from the bathroom, holding her head which was hurting like hell, a soft knock sounded on the door.

"Elena," Grandma Fiona's voice rang out from outside the door, almost immediately.

Elena sighed softly and slowly let her hands leave her head. She moved to sit on the bed, and then cleared her throat as she didn't want to sound off.

"You can come in grandma," she muttered and the door slowly creaked open.

Grandma Fiona entered the room carrying a tray containing breakfast and a warm smile playing on her lips.

"Bacon and pancakes with a drizzle of maple syrup, just the way you like it. I made it personally for you dear," Grandma Fiona announced as she moved to the side table beside Elena's bed and placed the tray containing the food she had just mentioned, on it. There was a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice on the tray too. It was Elena's favorite drink.

"Thanks Grandma," Elena mumbled, managing a smile.

"Eat every bite, okay? I will come check on you later," Grandma Fiona said, moving to rub Elena's shoulder, patting it slightly before she started to make her way out of the room.

Grandma Fiona was on the night shift for the week so she was home during the day. Stephen didn't even have to ask her to take care of Elena, Grandma Fiona was so fond of Elena so if course she was more than willing and happy to take care of her.

The smile on Elena's face faltered as her eyes moved to the food before her. Usually, she would be salivating as the food before her was her favorite breakfast ever since she was a little girl. It was one of the few things that she had not outgrown – her love for this particular breakfast. But at that moment, as she stared at the food, the urge of puking washed through her again and she rushed to the bathroom.

This time around, Elena had a cold shower and brushed her teeth before stepping out of the bathroom in a bathrobe. As soon as she stepped out of the bathroom, she jumped, startled to see her ex-fiancee Micheal, standing by the door.

"What are you doing here Mike?" she demanded, folding both her arms across her chest.

He started to walk towards her in light calculated steps.

"Babe, I get it, why you are so upset at me even to the point of returning my ring and I was a big fool to leave without first trying to apologize properly…"

"Don't come any closer Mike!" Elena warned when he was just a few inches away from her. He halted and heaved in a deep sigh.

"I promise that I am here for you now. Please Elena, don't just throw our six years out the window like that," he pleaded and dared to take one more step closer to her when he noticed her expression soften.

"Elena, I love you and I don't want to lose you…" he paused, reaching out to take both her hands which she had just let drop on both her sides. He held it firmly, searching her eyes with his electric blue eyes.

Elena's resolve was already crumbling. She did love Micheal after all. She had been with him for six good years. And they have both had really beautiful moments together. There had been a time when she had even fantasized spending the rest of her life with him and having his children. But, she wasn't sure it was the same way she felt anymore. Still, she did love him. Maybe she shouldn't just break things off with him just like that. Maybe if they could both work together, things could return to the way it used to be. To the time when they were both so in love that nothing else mattered but their love. Not even Michael's dream…

"I love you Elena. I don't want to lose you," he repeated, inching his body closer to her and moving his hands that were holding her hands upwards, so that he could hold both her shoulders instead.

"I don't want to lose you. And most especially not to that Stephen," he ended. And that was what broke the spell. She pulled away from him, brushing his hands off her and a scoff escaped her lips.

"Is this what this is about? Losing me to Stephen, huh?" Elena screamed, shaking her head doubtfully at Mike.

He reached for her hands again but she wiped it off, stepping away from him.

"For Christ sake! Stephen is just my friend, how many times do I have to say that to you!" Elena screamed.

"I f**king see the way he looks at you and the fact that you always go to him first whenever something happens is not helping matters!" Michael screamed back.

"Oh please Mike, don't even go there! The night my parents died, you were the first person I called but of course you didn't answer…" she paused as she felt a lump forming on her throat. She could feel the tears coming.

"You are never available so if I rely on someone else who has actually been there for me more times than you have, do you really blame me?" Elena ended with a question, glaring at Micheal as she spoke. Her anger was the only thing holding her from breaking down right there and then.

Mike heaved in a deep breath. *Okay you are right. I am a jerk. I am sorry," he muttered and Elena sighed.

One thing Micheal was good at was apologies. Changing, not so much. Still, when he came to embrace her, she let him as a million thoughts flooded her mind. Her period was late. Like really late. And the fact that she had been feeling unwell since she woke up was not helping matters.

Elena was scared. She knew that there was a huge possibility that she was pregnant. She had already done the calculations in her head.

Well, if she was indeed pregnant, then she couldn't exactly leave Micheal now, could she? Were the thoughts running through her mind as she stayed in Michael's embrace.
