CHAPTER 5, HER FIANCEE
The door opened with a loud bang and both Stephen and Elena pulled away from each other. She had fallen asleep in his arms. The rays of the early morning sunlight seeped through the half open curtains, illuminating the room. Since Elena was just waking up, it took her eyes some time to get adjusted to the light. When she caught sight of her Fiancee, standing by the door, she gasped. He had been the one that had thrown her door open with a bang.
"Babe!" Elena exclaimed in surprise.
He scoffed, averting his eyes from Stephen who he had been glaring at and he turned to look at Elena, betrayal playing in his eyes.
"So this is how we roll now? Not only did you move into your boss's house, you two sleep together now?" Micheal muttered.
"It is not what you think Mike. I couldn't sleep last night Stephen just cuddled me," Elena tried to explain but Mike just scoffed before moving towards Stephen with the intention of punching him.
Stephen intercepted his move and blocked his punch before it reached him. Mike scoffed and then reached out to grip Stephen's collar but Stephen pushed him, brushing him away.
"Who the f**k even let you in here?" Stephen asked.
"Like I can't be allowed into the house where my fiancee now stays!" Micheal exclaimed.
"Your fiancee, huh? Yet it took you what? A month to get here?" Stephen taunted.
"I am only like a day late!" Mike screamed and Elena reached out to hold her head, their loud voices were giving her a headache.
"You should have been here the moment you heard about the news of your fiancee's parents demise," Stephen said, his voice now calm.
"I was working!" Mike screamed.
"Exactly… While I was here giving your fiancee the support that she needed, if anything you should be thanking me for doing your job for you," Stephen muttered.
Micheal broke out laughing. "You are despicable! I know what you are doing…" he paused, pointing his finger at Stephen.
"You are simply trying to get into my fiancee's pant but mark my words, I won't let you do that!" Micheal said.
"Like you would stick around to stop me. You are never around and a girl as lovely as Elena shouldn't be left alone. She should be loved, cherished and protected…" Stephen said, his lips curved even more upwards as he watched Micheal redden in anger.
"You think you can do a better job than me, huh!" Micheal exclaimed, moving to punch Stephen's face.
"Can you two just stop for a minute?" Elena screamed, obviously fed up and Micheal retreated his hand and moved towards her.
"Babe let's go, okay? I am here now. I am here for you," Micheal muttered, reaching out to hold her hand but the words were barely out of his lips when his phone rang in his pocket and he released Elena's hands to reach for it.
"Umm, one minute babe," he muttered as he picked the call.
"Take all the time you need," she muttered, ending with a scoff, and then glared at Stephen. His favourite hobby was pissing her fiancee off but did he really have to do that right then… But she couldn't exactly blame him. Micheal didn't treat her right and Stephen hated his guts because of that. Elena could already predict that Micheal was about to bail on her again. The phone call he was having told her that much.
"Umm, babe," he finally hung up the phone and turned to her.
"You have to go, I know," she muttered and he let out a relieved sigh, causing her to scoff.
"Oh he had no idea what was coming!" was her thought.
Stephen caught the glint playing in Elena's eyes as she scoffed at Micheal. He could already tell that he was going to very much enjoy what was going to go down next.
"Thank you so much for being so understanding babe. I will wrap this up and be back before you even know it," Micheal muttered with a smile.
"Actually, Mike, you don't have to come back, ever," Elena blurted out and Micheal furrowed his eyebrows at her as his smile faltered.
I...I don't understand," he mumbled and just then Stephen's chuckle rang out and both Micheal and Elena turned to glare at him.
Elena returned her gaze to Micheal, just as he returned his gaze to her.
"I can't keep doing this with you Micheal, I just can't," she paused as she started to take off his ring.
"Babe please don't do this," Micheal pleaded as his eyes moved to her hand.
"God knows that I have tried but this isn't working, not for me," she reached for his hand, opened his palm and placed the ring back in it.
"Are you doing this because of him?" Micheal asked, passing a quick glance at Stephen whose lips was still curved to an amused smirk.
"Jesus Mike! Don't do that! Stephen has nothing to do with this and you know it. Just go, okay!" Elena muttered, pointing to the door.
"You are going to regret this Elena!" Micheal threatened.
"I greatly doubt that Micheal. If anything, this is good riddance for me. Bye," Elena said, even waving her hands at him.
He held her gaze for a few more minutes and then scoffed, before making his way out the door.
"Yes girl! That's how you do it!" Stephen's cheer rang out but she turned to him with no clear expression on her face.
"You too leave, I want to be alone for a while," she muttered.
A slight frown formed on his face. "You sure?" he asked.
"Yeah, I am sure," she said, he nodded and started to leave. He halted by the door and turned to look at her.
"I will fix breakfast for us," he muttered before turning and then leaving, closing the door quietly.
The moment Stephen was gone, Elena walked to the door, to lean by it. The tears that had gathered in her eyes finally gave way as she crouched on the floor, letting her back rest by the door.
"Mom! Mom!" she kept mumbling as the tears fell.
