Chapter 2

Pavel prepaid the money readily and booked the photography for two days.

When going downstairs, he saw a few men and women go to the shop, wondering why the small store was so popular.

However, Pavel smelt something that made him furrow his eyebrows when they passed by.

On the shooting day, Pavel saw them again, among which one was a sexy girl who was hard to forget.

"Are they here to shoot photos?" While changing into an ancient outfit, Pavel asked Matthew as he stood in front of a mirror outside the dressing room.

Matthew was debugging the camera. "Well, they appointed Ms. Payne to shoot for them."

They all chatted with Ms. Payne in a good mood downstairs, while Pavel could even hear their laughter upstairs. Pavel could tell that something was wrong, yet he didn't bother to pay much attention to it since it was not his business.

Pavel changed his clothes, looking at the white cloth. "Ms. Payne told me that was the utility room. That doesn't look like one for me."

Matthew didn't raise his head as he answered, "The room was blocked when I came here two years ago. Ms. Payne never allowed us to get in there or move anything. I think it used to be a fitting room."

Pavel was confused. "Why doesn't she use it?"

Matthew thought for a moment. "I remember Ms. Payne said the mirror was broken."

Then she should have bought a new one. Why did she fence it with a cloth?

Pavel stared at the cloth, feeling like it was the same as he first saw it. Somehow, his hair stood up in the back all of a sudden.

After shooting some photos, Pavel added Matthew as his WeChat friend and chatted with him from time to time. Soon, he had a basic understanding of Matthew.

Matthew was from the countryside, getting a low salary from Ms. Payne. Since his elders were sick, he was short of money.

Therefore, when Pavel lured him by asking if he had anything to sell, Matthew remained silent for a second before he asked, "You don't come to me for shooting."

Clever! Pavel smiled, took his phone, and said directly, "Let's talk when I take my photos at 9 o'clock tomorrow. As for the price, you name it. I saw your post online."

Matthew could tell from Pavel's clothes, appearance, and luxury car that he was rich. Therefore, he agreed immediately.

On the same night, Pavel went to the nightclub as usual.

A man called Kevin came over amid the drinks and lights, "Pavel, did you really go to the photography shop you told me to check?"

Pavel watched people twisting their bodies on the dance floor, holding a red wine glass in his hand, "Can't I?"

"With your position... Well, it was a nice photography shop five years ago. I went there for shooting as well when I was in high school because it was cheap, but its business has been struggling after an incident."

Pavel turned his head. "What happened?"

"A bride-to-be hanged herself when trying her wedding dress," Kevin said exaggeratedly, "we all heard the news at school at that time, saying that the woman was forced to marry a man she didn't love. She couldn't think it through and killed herself since she couldn't be with her loved one."

Pavel couldn't help recalling the dressing room covered with a white cloth.

At nine o'clock the next day, Pavel arrived at the store on time, but something had happened before he got there.

He saw many people around the store door and many police officers.

Matthew led Pavel upstairs from the back door, seeming shocked. "The police is here for Ms. Payne."

Pavel asked, "What do they want from her?"

Matthew stood on the second floor, pointing to the place covered by white cloth in front. "I just learned that someone died here five years ago, a bride-to-be. She was hung here when trying her wedding dress."

Pavel frowned slightly. It sounded like the woman didn't kill herself but was murdered.

It happened five years ago, which meant it was an old case.

In other words, the newly-formed homicide division had reinvestigated the case.

Pavel still remembered how his friend had said about the head of the division, feeling lucky that he didn't rush here directly just now.

Matthew continued, "The police now want to reinvestigate this case, but Ms. Payne doesn't want them to do so. After five years, the store finally comes back to normal. But if they do this, they will remind people of the fact that someone died here before."

Pavel smiled. "I thought you were worried about yourself."

Matthew didn't take it seriously. "Why should I? My camera allows me to work anywhere."

It was noisy downstairs. Pavel knew he shouldn't stay here for long, so he named the price frankly. "Name your price. Where did you get it? And how much are you going to sell it to me?"

Matthew hesitated, "To tell the truth, although I am short of money, I have to be vigilant."

Pavel sneered. "I'm buying it from you. Once I transfer the money, it means the illegal business is settled. I'm against the law as well. You will have the proof against me. Why bother to be afraid? Besides, didn't you post it online so that you could sell it as soon as possible?"

Matthew thought it was reasonable, so he answered, "I picked it up somewhere before. As for the price..." He showed all his five fingers.

Pavel took a look at him and agreed, "Deal. But you have to tell me where you got it."

Pavel transferred the money as soon as he got the information he needed, but he heard Ms. Payne shout angrily, "Who are you to arrest me?"

Matthew immediately ran downstairs, seeing Ms. Payne being handcuffed.

Pavel stood upstairs, listening to a magnetic and cold voice saying downstairs, "Do you think we are really here to reopen the case? When you took Fiona Kram's business five years ago, you were surprised to know that her husband-to-be was actually the man who betrayed your love. To revenge yourself, you hid in the ceiling of the dressing room and strangled her from above while she was changing clothes. Since the man had an argument with Fiona before her death, he chose to cover your relationship in case he might be involved. Therefore, the case was not solved five years ago."

Ms. Payne didn't seem to have accepted the charges, struggling as she was taken out of the store.

Pavel went to the balcony and looked downstairs, seeing a man in a police vest. He was tall, yet his face was expressionless. He personally directed his men to take the woman into the car.

The man must be Tristan Lewis.

Pavel suddenly smiled as soon as he saw Tristan, who looked upright.

When Tristan looked toward the second floor, Pavel had already hidden safely.

Matthew came upstairs again, seeming flustered. "No wonder I've seen many strange people coming here, excusing shooting and even taking photos behind the dressing room door. It turns out that they were here to investigate Ms. Payne."

Pavel turned his head. "You just work here. Don't care too much about anything out of your business."

Matthew nodded. Before the police reached the second floor for searching, Pavel hurried to leave from another side door in the staircase.

Leaving the wedding store, Pavel drove while thinking, "It has been only a week since the setup of the homicide division. What a surprise they worked so fast."
