Chapter 2 This Place Needs No Lazybones

"What? You're running out of money again? Corinne, didn't I give you 800 yuan the day before yesterday?"

Brittany exclaimed in the restroom, unable to believe her ears.

"Mind your attitude, Brittany. Are you suspecting me of embezzling your money?" Corinne Jarvis raised her voice from the other end of the phone, and Brittany's eardrums were almost pierced.

She turned soft and apologized dully, "Sorry Corinne, it's not what I mean… but why did it run out so fast?"

"Commodity prices have been soaring, and your monthly salary is barely worth mentioning!" Corinne snorted and continued meanly, "You don't know how much your brother eats now. 25 kilograms of rice I bought last week was consumed in just a couple of days. He is such a big eater. I wonder from who he inherited this!"

Brittany was speechless. Was she kidding? Her bother was not a foodie. How was it possible that he could consume so much rice in a couple of days?

Despite her depression, she discussed with her aunt in a nice tone, "Corinne, I've given you all the scholarships for this semester. Busy with school, I don't have much time for part-time jobs. Could you hold off for a few days?"

"No, you're required to transfer the money tomorrow!" Corinne sulked impatiently, "Or Azrael will leave. My family is a large one, and I don't have extra money to raise your brother!"

The woman hung up the phone without waiting for her response.

Holding the phone, her hand dropped. Brittany leaned helplessly against the toilet door. The rims of her eyes reddened.

It was already the fifth time this month. She wasn't defeated by poor life, but her cold-blooded relatives made her shed tears again and again.

Ten years ago, her parents died from a gas explosion. Her brother, Azrael Jarvis, and she became orphans. Because they were little, their relatives considered them like hot potatoes. No one wanted to take them in. In the end, Corinne and her husband adopted them for the sake of their house. They could rent it for money.

Although she and her brother didn't end up in an orphanage, their life was not good. They didn't have enough food and had to do a lot of work. Ever since their childhood, they had suffered a lot in their aunt's house.

Thankfully, they both did well with school and received scholarships. Otherwise, their snobbish aunt and uncle-in-law should have forced them to do labor a long time ago.

Later, she entered a college in S City. While studying, she worked part-time.

She worked as a supermarket salesperson and sent out flyers under the scorching sun. In the cafe, she worked as a waitress. Before dawn, she went out to deliver newspapers, milk… She did all kinds of work, but her aunt sacked her hard-earned money!

She had sent all her money to Corinne the day before yesterday. Before she could have a respite, her aunt asked for more!

She could no longer carry on with such a life.

"Brittany, how long are you going to squat there? Get your ass out!" The door was suddenly pounded, and a middle-aged woman with heavy makeup scolded her irritably.

Brittany came back to her senses, hurriedly wiped her tears, pulled the door open, and went out, "Coming."

"You slack off every day. If you don't want to work here, just quit. This place needs no lazybones!"

The woman shouted and screamed, pointed to a box of liquor in the corridor, and instructed, "Take them to Booth 2028! You've been here for so many days, and not a single bottle of wine is sold. You're useless even though you're from a famous university!"

With her head low, Brittany answered, picked up the box, and went out.

She was working as a waitress in a nightclub. When she applied for the job, she was told to carry trays. Then the proprietor found her lovely. Many customers were attracted as soon as she came here, and the proprietor spared no effort to ask her to promote the wine.

Not a fool, Brittany knew that the proprietress wanted her to comprise her morality. She took no hint, got into the booths, and pretend to promote the wine every time.

Not to mention wine promotion, she had never talked to a single customer.

She was short of money, but she had her principles. If she were not at the end of her rope, she wouldn't have worked at such a place!
