Chapter 4, You're in on this too?
Gaius could see Fred and Lucas discussing passionately; he knew it had to be about him some way or the other; what could Fred be talking to Lucas about with so much zest if not for the situation at hand.
'Your boss is trying to turn down an opportunity to be the Vice president of our club because he doesn't want to get married; being married is one of the criteria's' Fred told Lucas, looking at him anxiously while he waited for a reply. Lucas' eyes shone as soon as he realized the gravity of what Fred was implying;
'I thought as much' Fred said, looking around to grab a seat as soon as Lucas finally gave off a reaction. They were at the common area were visitors waited for Gaius before they had access into his office to meet with him; it was empty at the moment, given it was still a bit early, and Gaius didn't have appointments that day; the only real appointment he had was already taking place. Lucas glanced towards Gaius' office; they could see themselves via the glass door and window that Gaius' office was enclosed in. Gaius rolled his eyes quickly enough for Miss Valerie not to notice; he couldn't wait to join Lucas and Fred in whatever discussion they had going on; Fred had succeeded in getting Lucas on his side, Gaius knew he was in for a series of torments coming from the two people closest to him.
'You are ready to sign the deal I guess, we have come to an agreement?' Miss Valerie asked Gaius; 'Hello, Mr Gaius?' she called, snapping her fingers in Gaius' face to call back his attention;
'Oh, yes,yes ma'am' Gaius said, snapping back to a surprised Miss Valerie; Gaius had suddenly blanked out while she was talking to him; he was staring at her, caught in between thinking of how Fred would have finished him in front of Lucas because of his stubbornness, and also getting lost in Miss Valerie's beauty, and the way her cleavage popped out of her jacket. Gaius usually fed his eyes on the boobs of most female space engineers. Their space suits were always tight at the chest region, it was a thing for them; ninety eight percent of female space engineers around the world had their space suits detailed to prop up their cleavage; it was usually a sight to behold for the male engineers, they talked about it when they were together, imagining how the areolae of these famales looked, and giving details of the ones they manged to see among themselves; it was always eye and ear candy for these men.
'Oh sorry, my mind is travelling in and out; I have several other appointments' Gaius lied; 'Yes, I guess we are in agreement, do you have the contract here? I'd go through it over the weekend, and get it across to you after signing; i'm sure there'd be nothing to rectify?' Gaius said, stretching his hands to collect the contract from Valerie;
'No, there'd be none I can assure you, I leave for Hermin on Monday morning' she added;
'Perfect' Gaius said, glancing through the pages of the book; 'i'd send it to you then; where are you putting up?' he asked;
'Oh, i'm at the space inn; the capital's guest house' she said;
'Thought as much' Gaius said, nodding in agreement; 'we have a deal I guess' he said, shaking her hands, and getting up to escort her out of the office, happy to almost join Fred and Lucas in their gossip about him.
'Has he managed to turn you against me?' Gaius asked Lucas as soon as Valerie was out of sight; 'he has right? I saw the way you looked at me earlier, what on earth?' Gaius asked, staring at Lucas intensely, trying to bully him back to his side;
'He has a point Gai' Lucas said; Fred raised his hands in the air, as if to say 'I told you so'; 'what point does he have?' he asked Lucas, waiting to confirm if he meant about him getting married too, he was not about to jump into conclusions, though he could bet exactly what Lucas meant.
'The position at stake is a big deal, you should try and grab it' Lucas said, trying to avoid the obvious;
'Are you afraid of him?' Fred asked Lucas, 'tell this dude to grab one of his numerous girl friends and get married to them' Fred told Lucas; Lucas looked at Gaius and shrugged, agreeing with Fred without saying a word;
'You too?' Giaus said, shaking his head and heading back into his office;
'Gai; it's not like that you know, you have to be more thoughtful than this; the benefits are too whooping for you to turn a blind eye to, think about it Gai, you can come up with a plan about the marriage issue' Lucas said, following behind Gaius into his office while Fred trailed them tiredly; he had had it with Gaius' thoughtlessness. Gaius glared at Lucas for daring to mention the marriage word to him; it had been out of bounds for him for so many years; this as a matter of fact was the first time Lucas dared say the word to him. Lucas stared back at Gaius blankly; he was not going to give in to Gaius' bullying this time, this was a serious situation, they were not just trying to tease him, he had to use the entirety of his senses to think about the matter at hand.
'What sort of plan can we ever come up with concerning marriage? Marriage is Marriage, you're either married or you're not' Gaius said to Lucas when he realized that the man was not going to give in to his bullying.
'Then get married god damn it' Fred said impatiently from where he sat;
'Take it easy Fred' Lucas said, 'we wouldn't get anywhere with this, with tempers flying all over the place' Lucas said, calming the friends down; 'there's always a way out' Lucas said, stalling for them to be as calm as possible before he broke the ice;
'Contract marriage' Lucas said, staring for Gaius' reaction.
