Chapter one

Chapter one.

Kathryn's POV.

The media titles them dangerous. They say they are beasts, having human form to blend in. They were called the Werewolves.

Around the eighteenth century, humans were very wary of this same species. They were shown videos of how this species act during full moon.

I watched the videos too, as the topics of how perilous those species can be are still taught as free lessons in college.

Even in this civilized present century, many humans still think that Werewolves could come back anytime to kill us all.

Maybe that's the fact why some officials titled themselves Hunters. They were actually a government approved officials. I still don't understand how most people will believe the facts.

When I first watched the video, I'd known I'll find it hard to trust in this rumour. Maybe if I was born during the time Werewolves were rampant in our world, and roam our street, then I would have believed.

If you did watch the video, you'll get me. It's just a visual excuse, showing fast-moving human forms, running and growling around the street, and suddenly, they will hover into the air, and bam...their human skin will yank off to reveal a ferocious being within. A very large beast will take over, and start killing people, or destroying properties, or just walking around.

So far, if this were to be true, I think there are some whom are good Weres, and some, whom are bad Weres. The video also shows them fighting one another sometimes, as though the good ones are fighting off the bad ones to protect humanity.

It's just impossible. If they were to even become wolves...how in this god-damn, planet Earth will they be that large wolves?

And to kill all this, the story of their creation is quite faulty. The Media — or rather Hunters — stated that it all started with a very angry, and maniac female human who wishes to make other set of humanity, one whom will be what she wish humans to be.

She would kidnap different genders, and work on them in her laboratory. It was hidden in a far away woods. They say, she started to blend the genes of wolves with that of humans, her perfect thought of changing humanity to her style.

Her experiment later became successful, but the species weren't as perfect as she thought, so they break free, and came to the outside world.

Such a hilarious fairy tale, is it not?

The woman was the Werewolves' moon goodness, or at least that's what we humans tend to believe.

My name is Kathryn Carmelo. All of my life, I lived with my family in a small town. I never believed in such fantasy of Werewolves in the human world. Actually if you'll ask me, I assume it's just a nightmare some psycho humans are trying to force on everyone.

It hadn't worked on me, and never will it. Who did they think they are kidding? I mean, how is it even possible for someone to merge the body of wolf with that of human, and then they aren't even the size of a typical wolf, but large and hefty ones.

Didn't they think of agglutination before spreading the fantastic news? So far I hear about it, the Hunters says the female human merged the blood of wolves into that of humans, which is not possible. They'll die, rather than become whatever they say they are now.

In the video, it looks terrifying, but then, thinking about it...why is there green screen if not to make fantasies like this come true?

Even the government never talked much about this. I think they believe in it. Ha, funny it is, right? The Media is the government, so yes, they wouldn't tell about it.

My life's always been simple, nothing in spectacular. I stay with the Carmelo family, and gained their last name when I was adopted. I never know my parents, and the Carmelo mother, whom I know as my mother never talks about it too.

I stopped asking about my past life when I feel like I already have everything I could need from a family. I have a sister, the one and only biological daughter of the Carmelo. They never make me feel like an outsider, so yes, if I'm asked about my family, it's the Carmelo for me.

I stop in my track, and look around. The street is awfully quiet, but at the same time, it's nice. I do like to jog very early in the morning, when everyone is most certainly still asleep. In this part of the globe, most occupants don't chase after cabs, because of their office work.

The town I live in is small, little in the geographical map, I'll say. We don't have much offices here. The kids around here move away from town to the city to start mass jobs.

I'm a graduate, but doesn't have a job yet. I work in a restaurant, more like a breakfast, take-away snack shop.

My eyes roam around again, my breathing is heavy, as my chest roves up and down. I reach for my waist, where I have a bottle of water hook to my suit. Dad bought me the suit from one of his friends that work in the city.

I love anything he buys me, and appreciate them, so automatically I take care of this clothing quite well.

Gulping down the water, I sigh and look around the street again. I tap a button on the headphone, and the music changes. The soft tone becomes more soothing to my brain, and I close my eyes, reeling in the moment.

Breathing in again, I prepare to start jogging when suddenly my phone beeps, a call entering.

It interrupt the song, so I slide the headphone off my ears to rest on my neck. Then, I check the screen of my phone just before placing it to my ears.

The sound that comes from the other side, a shrilling one makes me want to squeeze my face but I can't help but roll my eyes.

I'm familiar with the nature of my sister. "hey twinny," she giggles into the speaker, in the background, she's talking to mom. The nickname is something we call each other. Since we are of the same age, we do things together, and got nicknamed by mother. We both love the title and stick to it.

"Will you please talk?" I'm hyperventilating. I don't think I'll be able to jog further anymore. It's tiring already, and girl needs some rest. Whelp!

"Oh, sorry. Breakfast is ready. Mom's calling you to come back home." And then, she's gone again. Thank goodness this time, it's just for a brief moment. "Where you at?"

"Out of Florence street." I state to her, and hear her gasp. Florence street is wide, recap, Florence street where I live in is wide. The community is the largest in this town. Her gasping is sure guessed why. I jogged farther from home today, and I'm sure I'll regret it later when my muscles begin to pain.

"And you'll run back?"

"Probably," then I rethink my decision. "I'll get a cab. Girl's half-dead."

"Hehe." She mocks. "Is that why you're sounding like someone who's just got off bed after four hours session?" Her question baffles me at first, until my brain ticks at her remark. Oh no, why does my sister have to be naughty everytime? She's so clichè.

I would have laughed, if not that I feel too weak to do so.

I begin to walk towards the next street, where I'll find a cab. "why are you like this, Charlotte?" I don't wait for her answer. "anyway, is dad still home?"

"Yeah. Just hurry. You know Brendan isn't the type to calm when you're late."

"That's his problem. He can stick his complaint up his ass."

"Ouch, now who's being dirty?" She is grinning. I can just tell. That's who I've been breeding all my life.

"Oh, stop. You know I can't win against your naughtiness."

She pauses, probably thinking of something, because I can hear her humming. "Wait, what did you just say?" What did I just say?

Many things. Ah, that's my second companion. Have I mentioned her to you? Oh, before I forget. My inner voice, and I are very close. She talks into my head, like, all the time even though every time we don't usually go along. She's mostly tackling me. My imagination is very high, most of the time, I live in the fantasy world. One can say that's why I'm a writer, as much as a reader of many preternatural happenings, and scripts.

I do watch a lot of the movie too, but on the other account, Charlotte is more of the horror, dark, commanding, and such features. She's an example of aforementioned, herself as she can be very terrifying, and commanding.

But then, she gets her way with men.

Her voice brings me back to the now. "Is he gay?" She's asking about Brendan? When did I mention he is one?

"No?" I'm unsure. Oh, was it because I said earlier that he can stick his complaint up his ass? "Babe, what I said earlier was just an expression."

"It better be." Uh-oh. I am yet to see a moving cab that's not occupied. The street is filling up as time passes the more.

"You have a crush on him? Tell me something, he'll be your number what?" She's been with lots of men actually. Note that, please.

"Never one of your business, dear." There her voice tone has changed as though she's annoyed, or irked at my questioning but it's just her style. It can't work very much on me.

"Whatever. I'm hanging up. And yeah, make sure you've bathed before I get home." She takes forever in the bathroom. I don't know what she's always washing for that long.

Maybe the perfumes of her previous one-night stand. My inner voice chimes in, and then she's gone. If Charlotte should hear her, she'll strangle her from within me. That literally means, she'll strangle me.

"You're annoying me already, so bye."

Finding a cab, I walk towards it. The driver rolls down the window just in time as I tell him my destination. "Florence street, block seven."

He nods, and I am hurried to reply Charlotte. "see you soon." Entering, sitting on the backseat, my peripheral sight sees the driver changes the GPS to my location.

He is playing a low song from the radio, which i didn't complain about. I bring the headphone back up and connect it with my phone. Then, I resume the music, suck in a whiff of the air, breathing it out through my mouth, I rest my head against the car window, and watch the passing building.

No matter what, the passing scenery which involves exterior decors, eclectic types of flowerbed, and small trees will make me always remember this small province. It's such beauty. Simple beauty. It's not too much...something I like.
