CHAPTER 3

The doors to the room were open and a nurse was sitting inside at a table keeping herself busy with a book. When she saw them, she quickly stood up, “good evening.”

“Please administer the medication so that my husband can wake up to see his son.”

“It does not work that fast mam, but I will do it right now and call for you as soon as he wakes up,” the nurse says as she walks over to the basin to wash her hands in preparation to administer the medication.

“How long will it take?” Arne asks, wheeling over to his father’s bedside and taking his hand.

“About a day in most cases but it could take over a week,” the nurse says as she injects the medication into the drip.

Arne squeezes his fathers’ hand and then leaves the room with his mother in tow.

“Son, there is another matter we need to discuss,” Anese stops Arne as she felt it is time to tell him about his heritage, or rather his lack of it.

“First show me the theatre,” Arne demands.

“Sure, it is right here,” Anese says as she walks over to two swing doors and pushes them open. As she steps in and holds the one door open the lights go on.

“Wow, this shit is for real!” Arne says as he wheels around the bed in the middle of the theatre.

Arne wheels out of the theatre and goes towards the elevator, “let us continue this conversation on my floor.”

“Sure,” Anese agrees.

Arne wheels to of the sitting rooms that had a great view of the ocean and the city on the other side. It was already dark, and the city lights were glittering.

“So, what do you want to talk about that is so important? It better not be about this big event you are planning.”

“It is part of it. What I am about to tell you will either scare you or make you think I am crazy but sooner or later you need to know,” Anese starts off.

Anese signals one of the male omegas to come closer.

“Before I tell you about your heritage, our bloodline I want to show you,”

“Show me a butler?” Arne frowns.

“Take off your clothing and shift,” Anese orders the male omega.

The male omega starts to take off his clothing, “hey, hey, hey, no need to take off your clothing!” Arne tries to stop him.

“Just watch,” Anese puts her hand on Arne’s shoulder.

The next moment the omega shifts into a magnificent wolf with brown hair and golden-brown eyes making Arne skip a heartbeat.

“Relax,” Anese re-assures Arne.

“You may shift back,” Anese orders the omega turning her back to him.

The omega shifts back into his human form and puts his clothing back on leaving Arne in shock.

“What the hell just happened?” Arne asks as the omega walks away.

“This is what I wanted to talk to you about,”

“I can not believe what I just saw!” Arne finds it hard to wrap his head around what he just witness.

“I am a wolf as well and your father,” Anese enlightens him.

“No way! When did this happen?” Arne asks excited but still in shock.

“Well, we were born Werewolves. Actually, I am a Luna and your father the Alpha of everyone that stays at this castle.”

“You want to tell me everyone here are werewolves? How the hell did I not know this? This is a joke, right?”

“You just saw with your own eyes a man shifts into a wolf.”

“Does that mean I am a werewolf as well?” Arne asks excitedly.

“Unfortunately, you never got the gene, we don’t know why,” Anese says still wondering herself why her son didn’t get the gene.

“Well, that sucks. If father dies will I become the Alpha?” Arne asks wondering how it works.

“Not exactly, no,” Anese says, her feeling of disappointment matching Arne’s disappointment.

“We own this land, right?” Arne asks, worried that they might lose everything if this supernatural world he finds himself in suddenly is anything like the movies.

“This land is ours but if our bloodline does not continue then, we will have to willingly step down and hand it over to the successor,” Anese says, realizing in what trouble they really are if Arne does not find a wolf mate.

Arne stares out of the window into the night looking at the glittering city lights, “what will we do? Will we now become the workers? Don’t we have money of our own? We could start fresh someplace new. I might not have inherited your wolf gene, but I did inherit your heads for business.”

“If you get mated with a werewolf, get married, and have a child then the pack will accept you as their Alpha,” Anese spats out the words that she knows will not materialize.

“So how do I mate with a werewolf if I am not one myself?” Arne asks confused.

“Normally at the age of sixteen werewolves find their mates shortly after their first shift. Werewolves do sometimes mate with humans if they are descendant from the supernatural world, regardless of if they have a supernatural gene themselves.”

“I take it no one in our own pack could be my mate as I have come in contact with all of them,” Arne questions.

“Yes, that is correct, unless she is under the age of sixteen.”

“So, I take it you have a plan?” Arne turns to look at his mother’s face.

“I do but at the end of the day the girl still has the right to reject you as her mate, so if we don’t find a willing girl then we might have to pay a werewolf girl to marry you and have at least one child,” Anese says, sounding crazy to herself.

“So, this ball you are arranging is it to find my mate?”

“Yes, I was thinking a Masquerade ball,” Anese says looking at Arne waiting for his reaction.

“I guess that is the sensible thing to do, perhaps I will just wear a mask until after I make her pregnant?” Arne jokes.

“It might be the only way,” Anese says with a serious expression on her face.

“I was joking mother,” Arne says offended.

“We cannot risk it, we need an heir,” Anese puts the glass in her hand down on the table.

“Ok, so when is the ball?”

“The ball is tomorrow evening,” Anese says.

“I take it you already have a mask for me?”

“Yes, and a suit. I still have some things to finalize, I will see you tomorrow.

“Good night mother.”

“Good night my boy.”

Arne wheeled through the castle and every time he got to a man he would ask them to shift. When he finally managed to wrap his head around it, he retired to his room, “this room needs an update.”
